  • love how shes not bothered by the muppets

  • What happened to these great shows steeped in culture...and actually had moral value....

  • I love that none of these songs are related! LAWLZ

  • One of the best four Muppet Episodes! (the other three are Star Wars, John Cleese and Harry Belafonte. Watch them all!)

  • Miss Piggy is ALWAYS out to upstage somebody.

  • Eight people have no sense of humor :))

  • What Fun- I dreamd of a Maria Stuarda with Piggy & Beverly. BRAVI

  • I love how she seems to be trying very hard not to laugh!

  • 1:37-1:44; HAHAHAHA!

  • The looks that Ms Sills gives when interrupted are absolutely priceless. What a rare talent! RIP...

  • I laughed myself to tears. This is the funniest thing I've ever seen!!!

  • With respect to Beverly, Miss Piggy is the better singer, and of course prettier, and of course knows more karate. HAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAA!

  • "God Bless America".. lmao

  • hahahaha i love the muppets! and the opera!! :D

  • Pigoletto???? LOL

  • RIP Ms Sills!

  • This is HILARIOUS. Does ANYONE know why St. Basil's cathedral is in the backdrop, seen right before Piggy comes in at 1:50? If they were singing Boris, perhaps. But the architectural faux pas are as bizarre as the opera conglomeration!? Sills was a trouper, that's for sure.

  • Good thing Beverly had the foresight to bring her fan with her...

  • what is the original Opera called anyone know?

  • I think there are several operas in here: Rigoletto, Carmen, Aida and something with Valkyries, maybe the Ring of The Nibelung

  • Well the name Pigoletto is a play on the Opera Rigoletto which is what Beverly is singing from the begining an aria called Sempre Libera, And then of course Toreador from Carmen and when miss piggy comes in its a scene from Aida.

  • Actually, Sempre Libera is from Traviata, not Rigoletto. Piggy enters on Triumphal March from Aida, but sings Wagner...perfection!

  • :) Sempre Libera is not from Rigoletto, it is from La Traviata. I love Miss Piggy, I think she was a huge opera fan.

  • @ejrouge Only one of the arias here was from Rigoletto. They were just trying to be punny by naming it that :)

  • La Traviata.

  • wow she has a great voice! cute clip too : )

  • Who has a great voice? Miss Piggy? LOL

  • This made me laugh and cry at the same time.

  • Strange... Does anyone else recognize the building in the background at 1:14 as the Kreml? How could they put into the scenery of something Venecian-Italian?

By the way: I love that performance. :)

  • This is The Muppetapolitan opera house :):) It is not so strange when you hear four different operas in one sceene :):)

  • Dr. Strangepork was great in this sketch.

  • making so high voices:)

  • Wow how does Frank Oz do that???starting at 2:06( I mean Miss Piggy;) )

  • Sills face at 1:40 is wonderful!

  • Pigoletto Haha... really funny, and Beverly Sills is just great!

  • Sills "Hojotoho!" is actually outrageously good. Ahhh Bubble is so awesome!

  • What a Great art we miss. our children need some high quality shows instead of violence

  • I don't think it's violence with today's shows just major stupidity which I think is worse than anything violent.

  • they actually don't sing any Aida here (it's Wagner, Ride of the Walkyrie), although Sills sang Aida in Central City back in the 50s. And the duels you're referring to are probably between Horne and Sutherland.

  • The Triumphal March is playing as Missy Piggy rides in on the gondola ... so they don't *sing* Aida but they play it.

  • Miss Piggy as Aida........oh my god!! *lol*

    She´s the best!!

  • If you want to get technical she's Amneris. but absolutely

  • this is wonderful!

  • MS PIGGY ROCKS!!!!!

  • yo de mayor quiero ser como peggy la cerda mas cerda

  • Move the pork PIGGY!!! Beverly is a better and higher soprano!

  • Please Beverly! Don't forsake spoon hanging!

  • i like the way Kermit says yay

  • How come no one ever says she was "hot looking"?

She reminds me of a older lady I fancied in the late 70's that worked at a grocery store by me then......

  • I always LOVE hearing these dueling duets between Sills and Marilyn Horne!

  • "I CAN SING HIGHER, I CAN SING HIGHER" Oh, my God, So funny!

  • Hojotoho...

    the valkyrie and the courtisane...

  • :-)))))

    I really enjoy "Pigoletto",

a high-note battle is the funniest battle I´ve ever listed -D

  • wonderful wonderful! Ms Sills, gone but NOT forgotten! Bless You La Diva!

  • She's so funny 'I said almost' lol

  • Wow what a beautyful Opera voice!

  • She had it since she was a kid. Amazing!

  • still a hoot, she was just wonderful

  • That was one of the greatest things about the Muppets. For all their craziness they were introducing kids to culture in their own insane way. Think about it. How many kids would sit still for an opera, but an opera with Muppets?? ;- )

  • Mine does... but he's a four year old opera freak! LOL!

  • Ahhh, but he's a good freak! "- D

  • @Wakkosgirl so true. I'm a fan of so many genres and realize muppets to help with that

  • This was one of the funniest things I've ever seen!

  • Beverly Sills singing Hojotot XD THat's just such a special clip.

  • coloratura sorprano or soprano?

  • Coloratura. I think she's a lyric coloratura actually. She was singing lyric soprano roles my the end of her career though.

  • wwow im a coloraturaa

  • Not since Hoffnung's "Let's Fake an Opera" have I seen anything as good in this genre.

  • This is priceless..."Pigoletto...lol!"

  • I cannot remember the last time I laughed this hard. Thank you so much for posting this. I have an exam in a few hours and really need the stress relief.

  • she makes it look so easy!

  • She does very easy any way but here is play back of course sciguy123

  • she does it looks so easy but in life its hard

  • Wow, my dad was right...muppets are NOT for kids... I grew up as a music podigy so i understood this and its humor but most children would not....i love the muppets for its humor

  • this is so wonderful. thank you so much for posting it! what a lady and what a voice!

  • E' bellissimo!

  • she looks like a wedding cake with that dress...nice

  • There are snippets of Rigoletto (obviously. lol.)Carmen, Aida, and Wagner's Die Walkure.

  • what's the name of this song?

  • The song Beverly sings (or is TRYING to sing! LOL!) is "Sempre Libera", while the other Muppets are singing bits and pieces from other operas. "Carmen" was one of the operas I believe.

  • yes she try to sing aria from traviata

first pigs sing toréador aria from Carmen

Miss Piggy arrive on the aida trumpets but sing the aria of brunhilde in the Walkyrie and at the end this is la dona e mobile from Rigoletto

  • This shows the greatness of Beverly Sills her magic and her wonderful personality .We will not see her like again in our lifetime.

  • lol @ Miss Piggy singing Hojotoho!! Genius! Flagstad better watch out!! (just kidding lol)

  • PIGOLETTO!!! LOL!!! I LOVE MISS PIGGY

  • another great opera singer gone... (sigh) beverly sounds TRES MAGNIFIQUE!!!!!! hope they release this episode onto DVD along with other great episodes soon!!! BRAVA, BEVERLY SILLS!!!!!!!

  • I can't believe that I didn't watch The Muppet Show when it first aired. I remember it well but only in passing.

  • Great fun. A credit to both Henson and Sills.

  • And a credit (or several!) to Frank Oz, who does Miss Piggy's voice!

  • The best part was Miss Piggy trying to outsing Beverly.

  • Magic! Magic! Magic! Miss Piggy and Beverly Sills. RIP Jim Henson. Your genius lives on forever.

  • hells yea miss piggy! :D

  • It's impossible not to smile and laugh out loud watching this. I remember seeing this in my youth and it remains as charming and hilarious as it was back then. I LOVE the pigs singing "God bless America" in lieu of "Amor e palpito." Brava Beverly, you truly were one of a kind.

  • Brava La Sills, may memories (and videos) of you lighten our hearts and our minds. What a spectacular lady! RIP.

  • you have anymore from the muppet show? RIP
