@rosettastoned451 Man i get that same feeling, each and every time. Wtf?? Is it some sort of physiological response to the Neurosis vibe? I don't get the urge to ram my foot on the gas if i listen to blastin death metal, you know what i mean? Plain odd.
@vaedjan Excuse me but the reason why Neurosis has a more profound style than Nickelback due the simple reason they play with faith and put soul into their work.Nickelback on the other hand is pseudo
A genre is just a word. You can't sum up the people in neurosis, their ideas, the circumstances in which this was made, and the sounds that came out by putting a word over it. That's abstract BS. Let the journalists handle that stuff.
Haha! I do hope they have a better point than that, yeah! No need though. They're usually either describing what you already know for money, or making personal poetry out of something that everybody has their own poetry about... for your money. I find using words to describe sounds and feelings a funny thing. Useful thing. Cool thing. But mostly funny thing.
Look down, look up, now back to me. I am real. And if you stopped using words as dress up, you might look like me.
Any critic who looks at something with a passionate eye knows that it's basically self-fulfilling personal creativity released to the masses, though a bit more shallow in scope than the act of actually creating art.
I personally find enjoyment when I read a review from the perspective of someone who really understands and feels what makes something truly special. That alone gives them a much greater point to me as a person.
True! I agree with you. Even King Crimson had it happen that the critic got what they were doing so well that they only got it themselves after they read his article. But that's my- not a problem, per se, just.. it seems funny to me that the critics only seem to do good when they 'get' it. Of course, to appreciate that, you have to 'get' it too. Or, you have to have an open mind that would've been willing to get it anyway. So critics are at best stepping stones. Making money.
I've always put artistic integrity ahead of everything else. Unfortunately the same thing can't be said about all forms of art anymore. If feelings aren't being put into art, then how can critics 'get it' when there is nothing to get? In a perfect world, where everything was driven by true ambition and not by greed then maybe critics would have more of a purpose than another source of currency for the almost entirely useless 'entertainment industry.'
Haha, agreed. Being true is what it's all about. I wouldn't view it too rigid though. Or intellectualize it. Integrity is just a word, just like 'hardcore', but I revere it just like you. You stay real and true by not getting fake shit in your head. People ain't their thoughts, you know what I mean? People are just what they do.
Where are they now? They are gone. I saw them run, run to the sea. Under the waves all has been said. Their voices are free. Free from the sun's stare, free from the noise of lost souls. An exiled sound washed in with the tide. Their voices are free. Free from the sun's stare, free from the noise of lost souls. On the waves their voice carries on.
i sit in a dark room and stare at what i think is the wall--altho its dark i can make out shapes like when you close your eyes--theyre like shadow demons that dance the archaic dance of lost souls...then i suddenly think about my past--its like watching one of those old 9mm reels that flicker--i see myself as a small kid hunting possums
Why is Nickelback being discussed here? I herd of them, but never herd them. I just checked out a couple of there videos and they were god awful. Is there some "good" breakout song or something, because I can't seriously see how they got signed. If they do have a good song, they should have stuck wit being a one hit wonder.

When will people stop buying into this wanna be post Grunge crap. NIckelBAck is the worst band ever. Chad Robert Kroeger Licks it. The Guy Can't sing. THIS BAND really sucks ass.

@countryboi2009 you're clearly either a moron, 15 years old or both. There is nothing 'country' about Nickelback. In fact, all they are is a bunch of Alice In Chains wanna be, no talent, 3 chord fags. Shit, Jerry Cantrell's debut album was more 'country' than Nickelback, and it's not even country. If you're gonna have a hard on for country/rock hybrid bands, at least explore some southern rock or some southern metal, you fucking tool.

I just got done listening to it, and to be honest it sounded very repetitious through out the entire song. Another reason why I believe it is not growing on me like say Between the Buried and Me or Protest the Hero did after listening to their stuff a couple of times, And if you haven't heard the new BTBAM album you need to some of the most genius Math/Tech Metal you will ever encounter. I hope like I don't sound narrow minded about music; Because I listen from Ashes Divide to Necrophagist.

It is just that I get bored very easily hear the same riffs played for mins on end then the song finally starts to pick up and start to really go.Also I not a Sub Genre Nazi like some Metalheads are like if it sounds good to me I will listening to it;So many times guys will say " Oh Metalcore sucks or Whatever core sucks" which is very narrow minded to say when their are good bands in all different type's of Metal genre's.And who knows Doom Metal may grow on me later on down the road,But not now
To be completely honest, I agree that mastodon does have a lot of the elements of neurosis within their music. However they remain a very unique and diverse band. You wouldn't look at most metal bands and say they stole Black Sabbaths sound would you? Music is an ever evolving wheel that collects bits here and there and continues to present them in a modern and relevant form.
I'm actually a huge mastodon fan but i'm sorry man your wrong and the vocals are more of yelling technic, not a scream(low, mid, high, or inverted) which they both do but being that they are different people it won't sound exactly the same but definitely the same technic. And Brent uses the chicken picken rarely but yes it is only a mastodon speciality.
I can personally play any song written by them and in my experience they are very much similar at least enough to credit them with this sound being original to neurosis. If you would like me to get into more technical aspects of the music i will like time signatures and tempo changes and musical arrangment.
These guys are thru and thru musical geniuses; ever evolving with each successive album. No single band i have seen live comes close to the emotion that neurosis embodies in their lve performance. Its as if you experience the music rather than hear it. Crazy they've been around for 20 plus years.
I actually agree with you. I think Tool's only two interesting records are Aenima and Lateralus, and neither comes even close to the sheer emotional power of Neurosis' music. Neurosis is just fucking untouchable...
i just ended up here accidentally excuse my ignorance but can someone give me the "key song" for this band , or best album (just as encouraging start )
Neurosis has had a huge impact on me,in my style of music they brought melody and emotion to some of the stuff i play, they really changed my life in a sense!
Y'know, this album is always heavily criticized by music critics, but I never understand why. This is just another great song on an album of great songs from a band who has had nothing but great albums. I mean, this song is beautiful.
Music is always like it or leave it. And it should stay that way. Either it touches your soul or it doesn't. Critics try to measure music so they treat it like sports: whoever runs first is the best.

Brent's chicken-picking is very unique in sound(he used to play banjo before guitar).
Troy make deliver his growls in a similar way as Scott, but they sound very different.
Mastodon features members of neurosis in every one of their albums. The two bands are very good friends.

Crazy they've been around for 20 plus years.

totally agree..........

I actually agree with you. I think Tool's only two interesting records are Aenima and Lateralus, and neither comes even close to the sheer emotional power of Neurosis' music. Neurosis is just fucking untouchable...

Depends on what you are looking for, though the eye of every storm, through silver in blood, and times of grace are usually considered their top 3
