Surprise! Most marine fish sold in stores come from the ocean! If Dquidlat can meet this lionfish's needs, in all likelihood it will live a much longer life in captivity and it won't even notice the difference.
@Gooberandco .... if u knew anything about saltwater gooberandco, a porcupine fish is a kind of pufferfish, lionfish are in a totally different category...
thats not entirly true, i have had a lion fish for about 3 years in my reef and the worse thing hes done was eat a snail cause i didnt feed him the day he was used to, he never picks on any fish or has killed any fish, as long as the fish arent the size of his mouth u should be okay
i was planning on adding a lionfish to my reef system, but the reef system has been set up to support reef & lionfish. What I mean is, I see two clown fish. Shouldn't those NOT be with a lionfish bc it will eat them? if not, you are very lucky. I have a snowflake eel that lives with damsels and hasn't attempted to eat them in the 6 months they've been together. I figured the damsels were gonna be chow once i put that eel in. lol.
the rule for adding anything with a lionfish is if it can fit in the mouth its going in there.I saw this first hand when I thought that my damsel was too big for my lionfish. I have actually kept snails with snowflake eels before and they say thats a big no. I guess for the eel it all depends on how well you keep them fed.
marcus, thats a dwarf lionfish they only grow up alilttle bit bigger than that, if u want a big lionfish than youtube search volitan lionfish, those are huge, i needed a 75 gal tank for my volitan, they still grow.
my friend caught it for me when we were snorkling in one of the coral reefs here in our place. almost all of my fishes and invertebrates were taken directly from the sea.
Aznstylexxx clown fish can be kept with lion fish if it is a big enough tank if it is they will prob mind ther own business if u feed them good

That's an absolutely gorgeous Lionfish! He/she deserves as many anemone fish as she/he can swallow.
