After all the USA has done to Latin America over the years we should be thankful any Spanish speaking person would even have a desire to hear our national anthem sang in their language. English is only one language. By limiting our exposure and experience to just English, we as Americans have only done more to limit ourselves and our potential as homo sapiens. Why perpetuate that?
I don't like this. IT sounds good but the words lack the meaning of the English words. At least as they are litterally translated. They make a song of aggression out of a song about defense of a fort. A battle which occured just after our capital was burned, written by a prisoner.
Yes natives here, indians did not speak English. They also did not speak Spanish either. ENGLISH has been one of a few uniting cultural items in these states of America.
@beyaco18 No other culture got special treatment when they immigrated here. They all had to learn English. Why should Hispanics get special treatment? I certainly don't think that if I decided to move to Cuba tomorrow that I should expect people to learn English to accommodate me. If people want to speak a different language in their own home or between each other, that's fine, but for somebody to move to another country and expect the general public to learn their language is just conceited.
@JandBMan312 No one is expecting anyone to learn Spanish. They're not telling people to accomodate them. The reason why you see companies offer services in Spanish is because the US has over 10% of the entire world's Spanish speaking population and more Spanish speakers than any other country besides Mexico. About half of the percentage of New Mexico and 30-40% of California speaks Spanish. I'm sure the Native Americans felt the same way when the Europeans moved here, hypocrite.

This is the United States of America. The constitution gives us the right to free speech and therefore allows anyone to sing the National Anthem in whatever language we want. Instead of sounding like it's 'singing in Spanish about how I'm proud to be American', to me it sounds like 'singing about how I'm proud to have Spanish heritage in America'. Which isn't a bad thing to be proud of, it's awesome, it's just...not what the US anthem should be about.
...Hm. Conflicted. If it was just a Spanish translation & performance of the US anthem, I would have no problem - Spanish is beautiful. But it doesn't even SOUND like the anthem a lot of the time, the tune is so far off, with such extensive Latin-sounding riffs, I didn't even RECOGNIZE it at first. The music sounds less 'powerful', & from the Wiki translation the lyrics are kind of off, too.

i think this should fly. i mean, what about the puerto ricans? they are americans (puerto rico DOES indeed belong to the united states) just like the 50 states (they use our currency and our prez is also theirs), yet most of them speak only spanish, so why not have the national anthem in spanish?
You should be happy that they sing the american anthem, and not for example the mexican anthem. If they sing the american anthem they must like your country in some way or another.

hay que respetar la forma como el himno fue escrito, se debe cantar en ingles porque es lo que representa a esta nacion respetemos los hemblemas patrios de cada nacion y si lo quieres cantar hazlo en ingles.

@felixtorrealba82 Puerto Rico es un territorio asociado (como Irlanda y Inglaterra que en si no son países si no territorios del reino) no tiene independencia porque no lo escogen. La lengua oficial en el territorio es español y si demuestran su patriotismo a su "reino" así, pues es algo que debe ser honorado y no degradado. Pero, la independencia no ha sido algo muy popular desde los 60, como siempre es demostrado por el voto de la gente. Pero quizás mejor ejemplo seria Suiza con 4 lenguajes oficiales y su himno nacional es traducido en esos 4 lenguajes. USA no tiene lengua oficial, Por eso creo que no hay nada mal con hacer el himno en español. Volver a España? Creo que económicamente España no podría hacerlo y también nuestra gente es mas acercada a USA, ya que la mayoría tiene familia/amigos en América continental.
@akili508 España esta bien situado económicamente y Puerto Rico no es muy grande no sería una carga económica que además estaría sostenida por la UE, y en muy poco tiempo creo que PR experimentaría un crecimiento mucho mayor por la proximidad cultural que lo haría todo mucho más fácil, el modelo sería el de las islas canarias que además tienen una enorme relación con PR y a todo esto habría que añadir el beneficio de formar parte del espacio Schengen, PR no dejó de ser española por su voluntad
@iSPaLiTo En lo que e leído Puerto Rico ya iba comenzando los pasos para independencia cuando fue adquirido por usa? La economía de PR esta muy fea y necesita mucho dinero para arreglarse. En referencia a la economía de España en estos momentos también esta bien fea con el 20% sin empleo, a la misma ves el movimiento a reducir deuda, y la inestabilidad de la zona euro. Creo que son mas los obstáculos. El dólar también es inestable pero creo que el crecimiento seria mas volviéndose el 51 estado.
@akili508 La crisis actual es una crisis cíclica típica de las economías de mercado occidentales en las que todos dependen de todos y que ademas se originó en los USA, el movimiento revolucionario de 1868 en PR se puede encuadrar en los mismos movimientos que hubo por toda España, PR obtuvo la carta de autonomía poco antes de la invasión de USA y no se pudo llevar a efecto, el sistema autonómico es el actual sistema de gobierno de España, PR fue pionero en ese aspecto dentro de España

After all the USA has done to Latin America over the years we should be thankful any Spanish speaking person would even have a desire to hear our national anthem sang in their language. English is only one language. By limiting our exposure and experience to just English, we as Americans have only done more to limit ourselves and our potential as homo sapiens. Why perpetuate that?

I don't like this. IT sounds good but the words lack the meaning of the English words. At least as they are litterally translated. They make a song of aggression out of a song about defense of a fort. A battle which occured just after our capital was burned, written by a prisoner.
Yes natives here, indians did not speak English. They also did not speak Spanish either. ENGLISH has been one of a few uniting cultural items in these states of America.

I certainly don't think that if I decided to move to Cuba tomorrow that I should expect people to learn English to accommodate me. If people want to speak a different language in their own home or between each other, that's fine, but for somebody to move to another country and expect the general public to learn their language is just conceited.

@JandBMan312 No one is expecting anyone to learn Spanish. They're not telling people to accomodate them. The reason why you see companies offer services in Spanish is because the US has over 10% of the entire world's Spanish speaking population and more Spanish speakers than any other country besides Mexico. About half of the percentage of New Mexico and 30-40% of California speaks Spanish. I'm sure the Native Americans felt the same way when the Europeans moved here, hypocrite.

...Hm. Conflicted. If it was just a Spanish translation & performance of the US anthem, I would have no problem - Spanish is beautiful. But it doesn't even SOUND like the anthem a lot of the time, the tune is so far off, with such extensive Latin-sounding riffs, I didn't even RECOGNIZE it at first. The music sounds less 'powerful', & from the Wiki translation the lyrics are kind of off, too.

@felixtorrealba82 Puerto Rico es un territorio asociado (como Irlanda y Inglaterra que en si no son países si no territorios del reino) no tiene independencia porque no lo escogen. La lengua oficial en el territorio es español y si demuestran su patriotismo a su "reino" así, pues es algo que debe ser honorado y no degradado. Los EU ven a los latinos en tan mala luz porque tantos son ilegales. La acción vergonzosa es romper la ley y dar mal nombre a todo latino.

@akili508 Estamos en pleno siglo XXI y eso de Reinos o enviados por los dioses no tienen cabida a estas alturas ya que esos pretextos para imponer esa falsa supremacía han sido refutadas, Puerto Rico si ha elegido ser libre a lo largo de su triste historia independentista, si no pregúntate que les paso a Antonio Valero de Bernabé, Pedro Albizu Campos, Juan Antonio Corretjer y Clemente Soto Vélez, (entre muchos otros que no recuerdo), Cuba y Haití si consiguieron su independencia.

@felixtorrealba82 El "Reino" fue contraste entre el UK y US mostrando semejansas de gobierno. Sí es verdad que la historia de Puerto Rico ha sido manchada y quizás las cosas hubieran sido diferente. Pero, la independencia no ha sido algo muy popular desde los 60, como siempre es demostrado por el voto de la gente. Tienes rasón que Cuba y Haiti consiguieron su independencia pero también hay que considerar su estado económico y su potencial. Ya veremos este o el próximo ano lo que escoge la gente.

@felixtorrealba82 España es un reino, el nombre oficial es Reino de España, no se que tienen que ver los dioses con esto, los españoles son un reino porque ellos quieren no por imposición, tiene sus ventajas y sus inconvenientes como todo en la vida pero deberías respetar a los demás pueblos y sus costumbres y más teniendo en casa lo que tienes. A mi no me parece que Japón, Holanda, UK, Dinamarca, España, Suecia, Bélgica, Noruega, etc... sean países atrasados

@akili508 Irlanda es un país y el Reino Unido otro y no tienen nada que ver, a menos que te refieras al territorio invadido de Irlanda del Norte, con población inglesa desde hace siglos, Irlanda ha luchado siempre en todas las guerras en el lado opuesto de UK, la mayoría de las veces sin importar que defendían, no forman parte de la commonwealth ni lo desean, fomentan el uso del gaélico en lugar del inglés en el país, etc... a mi me gustaría que PR volviera con España, son hermanos

@iSPaLiTo Gracias por contestar y aclarar. Me refería a uno de los cuatro reinos (no a la república). Pero quizás mejor ejemplo seria Suiza con 4 lenguajes oficiales y su himno nacional es traducido en esos 4 lenguajes. USA no tiene lengua oficial, Por eso creo que no hay nada mal con hacer el himno en español. Volver a España? Creo que económicamente España no podría hacerlo y también nuestra gente es mas acercada a USA, ya que la mayoría tiene familia/amigos en América continental.

@akili508 España esta bien situado económicamente y Puerto Rico no es muy grande no sería una carga económica que además estaría sostenida por la UE, y en muy poco tiempo creo que PR experimentaría un crecimiento mucho mayor por la proximidad cultural que lo haría todo mucho más fácil, el modelo sería el de las islas canarias que además tienen una enorme relación con PR y a todo esto habría que añadir el beneficio de formar parte del espacio Schengen, PR no dejó de ser española por su voluntad

@iSPaLiTo En lo que e leído Puerto Rico ya iba comenzando los pasos para independencia cuando fue adquirido por usa? La economía de PR esta muy fea y necesita mucho dinero para arreglarse. En referencia a la economía de España en estos momentos también esta bien fea con el 20% sin empleo, a la misma ves el movimiento a reducir deuda, y la inestabilidad de la zona euro. Creo que son mas los obstáculos. El dólar también es inestable pero creo que el crecimiento seria mas volviéndose el 51 estado.

@akili508 La crisis actual es una crisis cíclica típica de las economías de mercado occidentales en las que todos dependen de todos y que ademas se originó en los USA, el movimiento revolucionario de 1868 en PR se puede encuadrar en los mismos movimientos que hubo por toda España, PR obtuvo la carta de autonomía poco antes de la invasión de USA y no se pudo llevar a efecto, el sistema autonómico es el actual sistema de gobierno de España, PR fue pionero en ese aspecto dentro de España
