anyone know if i can watch the interview between Dave and his mother? I REALLY WANT TO WATCH IT (after being told what goes on during the interview i find it interesting but at the same time the most disgusting thing someone can do.....)
I'm going to make this very clear: anyone who does this, EPECIALLY to their own child, should be taken out back and shot. Plain and simple. Life in prison is not enough because I don't want my taxpayer money to provide food to "people" like this.God Bless you, Dave!
@dvzqz87 *laughs* Okay, that was the funniest reply I've ever seen. Do you feel better now that you've called me an idiot over the Internet? If you had actually READ my comment, you would know that I made no indication that Dave wants his mother shot. I said that's the suitable punishment for people like her. Why don't you read things through more carefully next time? I'm glad we understand each other.
I'm currently re-reading the 3-in-1 book of his life called "My Story" which includes "A child called 'it' ", "The lost boy", and "The Man Named Dave". :)
@kaykaybaby1999 no no, it was just an act. they probably had not enough money to buy a video camera back then and who in that family would actually film David then?
Simmerdown children this is so not the place for the hateful remarks toward each other. Dave would not like seeing two people on here verbally attacking each other on the internet and telling people to go kill themselves. Please stop and think about your words and how they HURT people.
MOST OF THIS IS INACCURET 1. HIS FATHER WAS THERE MOST OF THE TIME BUT DIDDNT CARE 2. HIS MOTHER NEVER GAVE HIM ENOUGH TO SURIVE HE HAD TO STEAL IT MOST OF THE TIME AND WHEN SHE GAVE HIM FOOD ALMOST NEVER HE HAD TO DUMP IT IN HIS MOUTH WITHOUT SWALLOWING

@ecfcheer214 Okay? I'm dumb because I couldn't spell, but you couldn't get through a first chapter of a book that was really great? And I wasn't arguing with you anyways you just kept on correcting my spelling because you knew I was right. And what are you gaining saying you couldn't get past a chapter of a book? Your making yourself seem stupid. So stop smiling like your
@gennyxox10 You think you're right yet you don't even know me. Of course I got past the first chapter. I'm saying I couldn't get past it without crying so hard. Not that I'm illiterate. So just stop and get over yourself you little high schooler.
@ecfcheer214 Me? You think you right your correcting me every five seconds and smiling like your better. And next time say that because you made youself seem so stupid and then next thing you know your correcting everyone. You don't know me so how am I a highschooler? Just like you don't me and you look like you're in sixth grade with your dumb picture. And If I'm not correct don't you cheerlead in highschool? Because not most colleges have cheerleading or if your an adult.
@ecfcheer214 why are you correcting ppls mistakes, if you understood them then why do you have to be such a troll? And why are you acting like you have NEVER in your awesome cheerleader life made not one single mistake.
@bongqween221010 When did I ever say I was perfect? I was simply avoiding drama with her by not insulting her back or not even wasting time with comebacks. My God, this happened two weeks ago. Stop, and move on.
guys im actully crying now can someone cheer me up i mean i didnt even read the book a boy called it but i read the plot and just seeing this i started crying
This is one sad story. I am 12 and this story has really touched my heart. Im so glad that Dave has survived this evil person. What she has done was very unnessisary to do. The way that Dave has told this story ( A Child Called "It"), I rally understood what he was going throgh. But was that video acually her beqating him? Thats what I really want to know. Cause it look like she was beating him pretty bad to be real. Soooo can anyone answer my quesion please and thank you. <:)
Never read a more touching book. I wanted to cry all the time when I had to accept, that everything David wrotes about had happend. It's unbelievable how someone can be cruel like this to a child. And the more i'm impressed by David how he managed everything. In my opininon his books are books, that should be read by everyone - especially parents and people who are about having children or think of it. We must open our eyes! This book gives an important message. You did great! <3
When now I know, if you feel at boiling point - you need to release your emotion's constructively - & get help. Now I understand these monster's. That they need to seek professional help before ever thinking of laying it out on each other or on their kids. At the moment people around me just call me emotional, but I want to conquer that just like David did and be a Somebody - I wish I could help prevent child abuse.
@darkcherryangelbaby You are emotional. I am sure David is very emotional too! that's what it does. Don't mind the people around you. did they ever wear your skin! It angers me how people are ready to judge others. I don't think that's right. Stay the way you are and don't ever change. IF you are very emotional so be it! That is You. You have conquered in you own way my dear. and YOU ARE SOMEBODY!!!!! Don't forget that and don't let people tell you you are not!
I think you are amazing to have made it to being a Somebody! I am glad and I am reading the lost boy and hoping to read your motivational books so that I can also turn tragedy that still torment's me in my adult life and that affects my marraige into triumph.
For my sake and for the sake of kids today and for humans whose stress levels hit the roof and get trapped into physchotic behaviours.
When I struggled to read this book because of it's familiarity to me, my peer support worker told me about this book when I told her my story and how I face the world today feeling consumed by Child Abuse that robbed me of my childhood years, robbed my entitlement to free-agency, to just being, existing without being tormented. Now I am always crying and feeling consumed by other people. I can put on a front, but I learn't that from the abuser. I understand David's experience so well. Thank you.
I LOVE THIS BOOK THIS WAS MY FIRST BOOK I ACTUALY FINISH READING, N I HATED READING BUT THIS BOOK GOT MY ATTENTION, I EVEN BROUGHT IT, HE IS ONE STRONG PERSON.
David's mother was an alcoholic who had been drinking from the age of 13. Brought up in the Mormon community of Salt Lake City, Catherine Roerva Pelzer would hide in the outhouse during Prohibition to wince down bootleg whiskey. Her parents were divorced, which made them outcasts in that religious community, and Catherine was frequently locked in a closet, denied food, and told how despicable she was. Her own childhood experiences, coupled with her alcoholism, made her abuse David.
i just finnished the first 2 books and they are sooo sad and scary and i could not put those books down cause they were soo sad!!! and 4 those people who dislike this, u guys prob. do child abuse!!!
his mom was so phycho. poor dave had to live iwht misery his mainly whole life wow his mom is such a jerk. y would u beat ur children and starve them and try to put his hand on the stove? poor dave.
He actually came to my school and gave a speech he is trully inspiring he showed us his scars and told us tje things he did to survive and he did it for free. Probably because he went to that high school that was a block away from that house.
@mexicanrampage03 yeah he went to my school today too he made me realize that my issues are nothing compared to anybody else such as someone being abused or are in issues that are life threatening. he motivated me to do my best to be successful in life.
I'm just reading a man named dave now. I read the others ages ago. I find it hard to understand how he can still care about his parents. but I guess it's becuase he loves them deep down, despite what they did. his father's neglect, and his mother's abuse and hatred. he's a good man, and that's why he still cared about them. he developed that infanthood bond with them, which never can be broken. even after what they put him through.
if someone who has gone through so much shit in his life can still believe in god, then there's hope for everyone. even though I don't believe, what kind of god would let a child who loved him, suffer like that.
me & my mom would always read his books, i love them so much itz sad how much bad things he went throu when he was young...i always think of him & how strong he is! =D no-one deserves to be treated like that. =\
yes Richard, the fourth son. Was later abused by her aswell. he became the next victum of her torments.
The third brother stephan says that none of the abuse ever happened. he was told that David had been sent away for starting a fire. lies obviously becuase Richard backs up what david was saying.
I just finshed "a boy called it" and i thought it was sad when i read it and i thought it was really unfair from the mum to pick on only Dave i just started reading the next one im glad that Daves hell is over
Only a person that has not gone throw abuse. They will never understand why a person would want to help others. I read 5 of your books and help me over come a lot of mix messages my brain was making. I love my mother for the good and the horror she put me through. I surfed domestic abuse with my second marriage and what I suffered as a child I was not going to suffer as an adult. So, me and my children are save from that abuser and we no longer have contact with. Thanks be to God. Thank you.
His books are like the only books i read strait threw (literally) as a teen...I couldn't put it down....I'm so glad he overcame it and hes def a inspiration...God bless him
these books are indeed heartbreaking and very encouraging to masses. However, i don't think Pelzer is a good writer. Cliche, disorganized, speechy = bestseller. His books are not memory either, but the stories he created of memories. whether or not these stories are true I can't decide. The articles i read against Pelzer are quite biased in looking for any fault, though also revealing in Dave's role as salesman. I'd like to see more interviews with his teachers and family members for truth.
my english teacher mrs johnson gave me this book yesterday.. i finished ur 1st book (a child called it) in 1 day. and am now on the second. i cannot belive she did all this to u i just cannton belive it. people like her are the kind that are going to burn in hell forever. u were so brave i love ur books,
i have started read his a child called it, and after 35 years i find that i am still full of frustration. I honestly feel like taking a machete and hacking my step mother up.
Why does he believe in god?? How has god blessed him?! If there was a god none it of this shit would have happened. Whenever something horrible and disturbing happens, they thank god for "saving" them afterwards. SO RIDICULOUS>
I ws abused as a child the experience led me 2 hate GOD, nd i wondered y a GOD who was so powrful wouldnt do anythin 4 me wen i needed him the most. Aftr yrs of depresion i sought GOD if tere was 1 nd my search came 2 an end wen i came 2 Catholicism nd 2day i realize my experience brot me to GOD who luvs me unconditionaly. Wat i experienced wit God ws so overpowring tat i am thankful 4 all the good nd bad in my life cuz in the end it brot me to the greatst thing in my life.GOD
God chose Dave for this. He had a disturbing childhood but without this experience he could not have written all the wonderful books he's produced. Dave would not be able to help the millions of people he has today if he did not have the experience. God DID bless Dave. He gave Dave strength to endure all that he has gone through and now God has given Dave the power to help others achieve hope and faith for a brighter future.
@vinnypjohnson I think the opposite... He prayed to God... and he was saved. Why? because God loves him. And lets just say for a moment, there is no God...Then how did we get here? And what's gonna happen to you when you die? Believing in God is so worth it... if there was no God, we would just evaporate from existence when we died. If God is real, then you go to Heaven or hell. So, no matter what, if you believe in God, its a win win.
when i started reading "A child called 'it'" i couldnt put it down it is a very sad story. i seriously cried to the book and for the 11 people who disliked this ... how could you dislike this?????
I have read all of the dave pelzer books in last year in 6th grade i loved all of them.........growing up like that must have been a nightmare.......he came to pittsburg kansas!!!!
I read all three of the books and was brought to tears by the horrors that he went through. As someone who was also abused as a kid, I can relate to some of the things that happened to him.
I remember the 1st time I read the child called it.we had a long care ride to the grand canyon and decided to read this book. I couldnt put it down but could cry my eyes as i read it then i got to where i couldnt go on so my cousin took over reading it. we finished the book on our road trip had everyone thinking WOW I thought I had it bad.. which in reality we didnt have it that bad. I was abused as a child myself but never to that extreme. I feel for you dave pelzer. God bless
thats not real footage right?

I'm just reading a man named dave now. I read the others ages ago. I find it hard to understand how he can still care about his parents. but I guess it's becuase he loves them deep down, despite what they did. his father's neglect, and his mother's abuse and hatred. he's a good man, and that's why he still cared about them. he developed that infanthood bond with them, which never can be broken. even after what they put him through.
Rowan07001484 9 months ago
if someone who has gone through so much shit in his life can still believe in god, then there's hope for everyone. even though I don't believe, what kind of god would let a child who loved him, suffer like that.
Rowan07001484 9 months ago
If you can withstand the excrutiating pain that dave went through... Then you really must love your life.

@AJTwister97 Yes, i belive she abused the newst born son after dave went to foster care..
ChewEmily 11 months ago
@AJTwister97
yes Richard, the fourth son. Was later abused by her aswell. he became the next victum of her torments.
The third brother stephan says that none of the abuse ever happened. he was told that David had been sent away for starting a fire. lies obviously becuase Richard backs up what david was saying.

Thank you.

these books are indeed heartbreaking and very encouraging to masses.

He gave Dave strength to endure all that he has gone through and now God has given Dave the power to help others achieve hope and faith for a brighter future.

this guy is a living example of why theres NO GOD
vinnypjohnson 1 year ago
@vinnypjohnson I think the opposite... He prayed to God... and he was saved. Why? because God loves him. And lets just say for a moment, there is no God...Then how did we get here? And what's gonna happen to you when you die? Believing in God is so worth it... if there was no God, we would just evaporate from existence when we died. If God is real, then you go to Heaven or hell. So, no matter what, if you believe in God, its a win win.

God bless
