most evil, demonic shit iv ever heard and i listen to black metal, death metal but fuckin black sabbath is older than my dad and they sound like they were posessed by satan himself.they are still one of my top 5 bands to ever exist and this song will ring in my head before i die.hail black sabbath and satan i love black sabbath they are my idols.i will caryy on the metal tradition of death metal and black sabbath. support metal and fuck imposter i butter the bread with butter metal will liveon\m/.
Geezer (the bass player) used to be into to all of this satanic stuff. He had a tiny apartment which was painted all black with upside down crosses and pictures of Satan everywhere. One day Ozzy brought this book round to the apartment. It was an old 15th Century book all in Latin with pictures of Satan and Geezer had a really bad feeling about it. That night he woke up from a terrible nightmare and saw a black shape at the bottom of his bed. He told the band, and they made this song.
I used to live beside a church, church's are'nt good neigbours, every sunday morning as they were coming out to shake each others hands and tell each other how wonderful god is I would open my windows and crank the fuck out of my stereo with this playin, for some reason I dont think they liked it as they would scatter like cockroaches, oh well....
@janmadytay i applaud you sir, people who can't understand metal or darkness, usually flee from it. They hide in their little cocoon praying the boogie man want get em
This is one of the most evil riffs either. I am revising my earlier statement and now saying that Kerry King along with Tony Iommi are masters of the satanic riff
I think there was some helluva shit going on when this album first came out, because everyone was used to listen to the Beatles and all things hippies loved, then this came out... can't image the reactions....
I was in my last year of high school when this album came out. my then girlfriend had bought it and played it for me. this song was so powerful and overwhelming I couldn't believe it. the speakers on the wall vibrated like hell. I played over and over. a few months later they were on a bill as the opening act for the old fleetwood mac ( before nicks and buckingham) when they were a heavy blues band. great concert! both groups!
at the part where he says "oh no no no please god help me" I feel like i was being held in the arms of god or some other person of religion and he just lets go and Im falling forever down a glass cylinder whereas the glass breaks silently, shrouded with the sounds of the vibrating guitar and with people headbanging at a constant rate, then it just freezes while the guitar makes its signature sound and im just falling and listening with glass dancing all around me.. Awesome
@MHSlayteraFan my dear friend the worst thing is that they make comments in the metalcore bands videos saying: this is real music..fuck justin bieber(for example)...and everytime i try to open a conversation...i am called an IGNORANT...i don't know if it is the age or the level of dumbness that is responsible for this situation...
@Pismenost yes they are. yes they are. yes they are yes they are. yes they are. yes they are yes they are. yes they are yes they are. yes they are. yes they are
@supern00b25 Actually, it is. Black Sabbath are considered to be the 1st real heavy metal band, along with Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, although the bands deny any labels.
@Billeas4ever Coven(their first song is actually called black sabbath, and have a guitarist named OZ Osbourn) is the first metal band, they even started the metal hand sign. Black Sabbath Sabbath followed right after. So either this is a wild ass coincidence or Ozzy is metals greatest rip off artist.
@ThesePeopleSuck Coven are thought to be the ones that started black metal. The band members themselves have admitted that they practiced satanic acts. Ofc, they are the ones to first use the sign of the horns, I wont disagree on that. But I think thats hardly a reason to call Ozzy the greatest rip-off artist
@Billeas4ever Ozzy took his stage name from the real oz Osbourne of Coven, geezer even plays like Oz. they also use similar effects. I love sabbath but at the same time I give props to the originals
@ThesePeopleSuck Good. Just one point. How can Ozzy play like Oz when Ozzy is a singer and Oz is a bassist? After all, Black Sabbath style is much different from Coven style.
Please don't think I don't respect Coven or you. As I said, just one point.
And so the dark wave that became heavy metal began !!!!!!!!!!!!! Truly earth shattering opening chords and then vocals that everyone who loves great rock will never ever forget !!!!!!!!!!
This is worthy of world heritage status from the United Nations !!!!!!!!!
For school I am doing a project on the History Of Heavy Metal. I mainly listen to Thrash, black, and death metal so when I was writing the part of the first bands I had to listen to this song. Black Sabbath is amazing and so is (almost) all other styles. Hope I get a 100 on my project :) \m/
One of the most motherfucking evil yet simple riff. Already bought Paranoid so the next Sabbath record I buy will most likely be Black Sabbath's first record or Heaven and Hell. Hell I'll just get both. Either way I win.
@Mickthespud man, this riff is too overused! not only slayer, but many doom, sludge and even death metal bands play riffs inspired in this one. they even copy it! that's why sabbath rules
This song definitely had to have had an impact on what would later mould itself into Doom Metal. Hails to Black Sabbath and of course to what followed, Heaven and Hell \m/
@H3RM3S78 Comparing Led Zeppelin with Black Sabbath is like comparing Tony Iommi's Gibson SG Special to a ukelele. In either case, the similarities are few and insignificant. In 1970, Black Sabbath brought metal out of the underground and into the main stream.
