That "reporter" was a former Ironman Champion- an ironman legend himself.

He and the Hoyts were fellow participants in some of the Ironman races.

They are long time friends...

So for those who happened to just tuned in and not know anything about Ironman background, hopes this clears the seemingly "appalling" behaviour of the "reporter"...

Rick vegetable? So many people out there even didn't finish high school or graduated from a University ( people who can afford it). Rick did graduate from high school and University. Plus he's hungry for life, he enjoys it every single moment. He's not afraid to live life.

Unfortunately i can't say the same about many, many people out there.
