Those are terms for a real phenomenon called "superlightning." They're a rare and difficult to photograph variety of lightning that takes place above the clouds. The phenomenon is real, but the space shuttle columbia most certainly was not struck by one of these. You need a large thunderstorm to produce them, and columbia did not fly over any, therefore it is impossible for superlightning to have brought down the shuttle.

Lets assume this is true. Drag only acts on the surface on the side of on object facing it's direction of motion. If friction were the cause of all heat and thus light from the sun, we would expect one side of it to be much brighter than the other, which is not the case.
In addition to this, since the planets are all moving at a speed very near to that of the sun, if not faster since they orbit it in addition to following it around, why does this drag not cause "surface fires" on each and every rock in the solar system? It seems unlikely that a drag force of any kind is responsible for solar radiation.
