Great review of the LG Spectrum, I just ordered mine today. I prefer the LG over the Nexus, because some reviewers did no like the PenTile that gave the background a whitish appearance. So far no one has played a video to hear the quality of the audio. Thanks for the great review.
Bob, you have the best reviews and the best in-depth responses on the net. The schmackdowns are MINT. Keep up the good work! Think I will skip the VZW store next time and get my upgrade phone through you guys!
Bob, great video. The icon you mentioned on the notification bar is for the bluetooth, I do not have any issues with my facebook or any other apps, check the backup data icon if its on. One issue I have is the connection between the bluetooth and my car , I have to connect it manually every time and I am not sure why!!
@salehofegypt Yes, a couple others pointed out that was the bluetooth icon. Sometimes my brain draws a blank when the camera is running... I had a couple jokes lined up for this video and forgot to say them!
@wirefly Bob, I just ordered a preowned Bionic for $29 but it comes with a 14 day no questions asked return policy. I am still watching the Rezound, the Spectrum, and the Razr in case the Bionic isnt for me. In your opinion, is the Bionic good enough of a phone, or should I look at one of these other three. Thanks.
Hey Bob! I have a question hopefully you can ask.(Since you're one of the only people on YouTube that will reply =P) My question is, I wanted to know what to get, I wanted too get the Rebound but then I saw this , I saw your Schmackdown! of these two phones and it still didn't help me decide, anyways I use my phone daily for mainly music, Facebook, calling, apps, etc. Which smartphone is really good at the time being for $200-300? Thx!
@fatedead505 I think the Spectrum has more potential, but mine seems a little buggy and the battery drains quickly. The Rezound is excellent and it's more solid at the moment. The Spectrum could be brilliant with an update to fix the bugs, but the Rezound already is brilliant.
@wirefly Okay thank you! I will look into both of these phones more when I go to Verizon in a few weeks, do you know if there will be a ICS soon? If not, maybe I will go w/ the Rezound because it will get ICS soon.
@fatedead505 No one knows for sure when the Android 4 update will happen for any of these phones, only that it is expected to happen at some point. And why go to Verizon to buy the phone? It will be less expensive at Wirefly.
@wirefly Well maybe I would go with the Rezound since my phone at the moment is a HTC Droid Incredible and I'm used too HTC Sense and because it would probably be better in my pocket since I usually have my phone in my pocket.
@dtd43 I get this random question a lot. For the past 6 months, it's been an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S 4G (T-Mobile) with an AT&T SIM. For the past 2 months, I've also been carrying the Samsung Epic 4G Touch (Sprint). For the past 5 days, I've been carrying the LG Spectrum as well.
Ordered the Spectrum yesterday. Had trouble deciding between the Razr, Rezound, Galaxy, and Spectrum. Demoed a Razr for a week and while it was a good phone; the lack of battery access and the placement of the buttons wouldn't work for me. Rezound is nice but it's a brick compared to the rest. Galaxy with no external memory access and buggy ICS was a no go since some of my company apps won't run on it. Hopefully the suspect battery and miniscule 4gb of internal RAM on the Spectrum are okay.
BOB please help, i was seriousely thinking about switching to verizon cause sprint is just terrible in my area. i wanted to get the droid razr BUT i am soooooo worried because i know android phones tend to freeze every once in a while! what would one do when the droid razr freezes up(considering a battery pull cannot be done...)
@UncleBodyguard671 I don't know what to tell you. The question has come up before and there is no way that I know of to force the phone off if the on/off swich fails to function. There is a button press sequence that will restore the RAZR to its factory settings, but that will delete anything you've loaded to the phone -- not an option for most people. Maybe someone will come along and tell us what to do for a calamatous lock-up.
Actually the phone does have swype. You have to long press the open space on whatever u are typing in and a pop up menu will come up. It will say "input method" and behold swype is there PREINSTALLED!! The phone is not bad at all and has a better screen than the Galaxy Nexus, though android 4.0 is awesome.
Bob, I liked your 2 part review. I'd like to get some feedback from you on a couple of features that are important to me. How is the screen in bright sunlight? Is the phone's vibration strong? And is the speakerphone strong with little distortion? Thank you.
@rudysdad21 The screen is mostly washed out in bright sunlight. I could see it well enough for shooting video, but I wouldn't want to read my e-mail. Vibration is typical of any cell phone... I'd call it average. The speaker is pretty loud, actually -- good clarity, too. Overall phone quality is fair, nothing special.
To sync your contacts, go into the "Contacts" app, go into a contact's info, hit the menu key, and find "Join Contacts." Join it with one of your Facebook friends (the same person) and it will automatically stay updated. Unfortunately that part has to be done manually for every contact.
@DannleChannel Wierd that the Facebook widget would tell me that it was syncing with my Facebook account for a couple of minutes, then not show my Facebook contacts. What exactly was it syncing with? Thanks for the pointer, however.
@wirefly I think it may download all of your Facebook friends' info to the phone and store it locally (which would be what it's syncing), though there's no way to display it without joining them to preexisting contacts.
I see that these are both very cheap at wirefly.com. I'm thinking the spectrum because I have 2 very nice pairs of earbuds and don't necessarily need the beats. Does anyone object the choice of Spectrum over Rezound or Bionic?
@kirkthelumberjack the best phone on vzw is the Nexus. With straight from Google updates you get the latest software with no overlay. Bigger HD display than the spectrum. The beats thing on a phone isn't great. agreed moto's build quality is the best had an X and loved it. However if you want to stick at the 200 price point I say razr. However a phone is the only thing you use everyday for 2 years probably worth the little extra for the Nexus
I currently own a Kin 2 (horrid device) and I am up for an upgrade. I am stuck between the Rezound, Droid Razr, and the Spectrum.
I like the Rezound for the Beats and the HD screen, the Spectrum for the biggest (and HD) screen and I also like the Razr for the build quality. Each of these devices are currently $199 on Verizon's website and from what I have seen, they are all great. Please help me decide :)
PS: should I upgrade now or wait for a phone that is better than these three?
@kirkthelumberjack wait a little, phones are going to start coming out with ICS (the newest, latest, and greatest version of Android) so there is no need to even get the Galaxy Nexus which will be quickly outdated by Samsung, HTC, and even LG ICS devices. 720p displays might actually become the norm for high end smart phones.
@kirkthelumberjack Did you check the prices on Wirefly? You might be pleasantly surprised. I like the Spectrum's display better than the Rezound, but at the moment, the Spectrum I have is a little buggier than the Rezound. @XxAppleWorshiperxX uhh actually, the iphone's glass is made by Corning, right here in The U.S.. They just then fly it to china where the whole phone is assembled.
