I have a ubuntu desktop as a server, it has installed samba just by right clicking at a file I want to share. I got some media files on it and it's great for me and my family, and I don't need anything more ;)
if you want a REAL media center. I would checked out Mythtv or Moovida media center (also linux)
Just google it and download a test ISO and run it on Virtualbox and see if you like it ;)
well i use windows media center... I like just about everyhting about it. It looks good, it's fast. However It doesnt play videos I bought on Itunes without converting them first.
