  • In the 1960s, if you were not a Celtic fan, it was not easy being a basketball fan.

The perception seemed to be 'Wake me up when Bill Russell doesn't win for a change.'

  • I wish this series would be released on DVD, or at least put on ESPN's website for viewing. Full episodes, not just clips.

  • Red Auerbach AND Chick Hearn on the same video. You know this is hella old lol

  • Russell was obsessed with winning? No he wasn't he had loaded units! 8, count em, 8 hall of famers he played with. Jordan, Jabbar, Magic, Bird, Malone, Barkley, West, Shaq, Bryant, Doc, can't say they played almost 10 Hall of Famers in their career. Wilt didn't make players better? The yr after he averaged 50 they said he shot too much so what does he do? The next season he leads league in asst. Wilt destroyed Russell. He AVERAGED 30/30 against him. Russell had better units. Period.

  • @ASmooveGuy Read, if u can, the comment again. I said "Jodan, Jabbar, Magic, Malone, Barkley, West, Doc, Bryant, and Shaq never PLAYED with 8 hall of famers in their careers" like Russell did in that 9 yr span from 60-69. Not once did I say any of those guys played with Russell, like you're implying. Take a second and READ the comment again. I won't stoop to your immature level with insults I only deal in facts. For the record Shaq was a rook in 92 Barkley and Jordan were rooks in 84'.

  • @ASmooveGuy Dude your numbers are way off. Jordan's career was 1984-2003. Bird was 1979-1992, Barkley was 1984-2000, Shaq was 1992-2011. Dr. J played in the NBA from 1976-1987. I'm not sure who you were calling an idiot but you'd better lay off cause you don't know shit as anyone can see.

  • @EjkoUSC Jordan Actually played 1984-1993 1995-1998 and 2001-2003

  • @josiptauber Well yeah but thats alot of explaining to do for the layman. Haha. Shoulda played through it all MJ, now look at you wallowing in regret and lost time despite your accomplishments. If he played those extra 4.5 years he'd have tied if not surpassed Kareem in MVPs and titles. Tied if not surpassed Pettit in All Star MVP's and scored more career points than Karl Malone at least (making him second place). Hear that Kobe? Play. Till. You. Drop.

  • lolwhat? wilt had legendary caliber teammates and equal or better talent then russell during most of their competitive years. The thing is wilt never made his teammates better, he was a blackhole with the ball. you can't win basketball like that. russell was obsessed with winning, and did whatever it took to WIN. wilt did whatever it took to get his stats up and never foul out. the only stat I need to see is russell's 11 to wilt's 2.

  • @GotAnEyedea

    Arizin - past his prime

Elgin - almost done due to injury

West - still great but past his prime

    Havlicek - Prime

    Cousy - Prime

    Heinsohn - prime

    KC jones - prime

    Sam Jones - Prime

  • @AxonMoses prime during russell's entire career? your list is criminally vague

  • @AxonMoses prime during russell's entire career? your list is criminally vague

  • @GotAnEyedea

Uhmm no, while Chamberlain was with them, the reason Russell still won when he was aging is because Auerbach constantly put fresh-faces around him that were productive as well.

  • @AxonMoses N o p e

  • @GotAnEyedea

LOL, nice responce, listen I dont think Russell is a worse player than Chamberlain, but Russell did have an edge in teammates.

  • @AxonMoses I still think it's only slight if at all. the fact that this ridiculous program even had to be made tells me who is better

  • @AxonMoses Chamberlain was genetically engineered to play hoops. Like many who seem genetically commissioned to play basketball (Shaq) he might have lacked a certain edge and work ethic that a guy like Russell NEEDED to have. Russell had a lot more attitude and edge and was more intimidating cause he had to be. Shaq was great but most would say that his generally stubborn refusal to improve on his weaknesses prevented him from being The Greatest Center.

  • @EjkoUSC

Agreed, I dont really think it was Chamberlain's work ethic, he was always in shape. I think it was mostly just his focus. He was at his best when he was agressively defending the paint and being a facilitator. In other words, Wilt was at his best when he was imitating Russell. Thing is he was more focused on breaking records, which doesnt always go together with winning (see MJ's 37 PPG season).

  • The object of the game is to win! Period! Second place is the best of the losers. Unfortunately for Wilt no matter how great he was, he only got it down once out of eight tries against Russells Celtics. 11 rings to 2 rings says it all.

  • @TheRigger44 it says bill had bad teamates!!! even the best player of all-time cant win vs a great team built with 3 to 7 halloffamers!! can somebody tell me who was wilt teamate the first 7 years of his carrer and who made the hall of fame!!

now compare to bill that had cousy, havlicek, sam jones, heinsohn, sharman,kc jones...

  • @TheManloc wilt had bad teamates i mean!!

  • go Celts!

  • Wilt won 2 titles and had the best stats of anyone in history. Russell was not a better player than Wilt, how anyone could think otherwise is beyond me? If Wilt was on the Celts would they not have won all those titles? Of course they would..

  • I'm going on a tangent: Was the 1968 Eastern Conference Finals and the 1969 NBA Finals fixed? Did the Celtics or CBS paid off Philly and LA? I don't care about being spam!!!

  • Reason why wilt shot twice in game 7 was because he didn't want to foul he had 4 fouls and was obsessed with his record of never fouling out he passed the ball whenever he got it

  • @jarrenskater

a lot of people think that wilt didn't want to foul out and cared about his record!! the thing is that wilt team was the last in the league before he came!! that means if he goes out is team will be back to being to worst and would get crush!! imagine that u have a team with a guy scoring between 30-100 point and he endup losing!! that means that guy is greta and his teamates sucks!! cuz when wilt had real talent around him!! russel got crush!!!!

  • no...russell was born in west monroe, la, he moved to oakland when he was eight years old :()

  • Wilt did win a championship, in 1966 with the Sixers. He beat the Celtics in the playoffs :()

  • russell isnt from louisiana though hes from the bay area. he went to mcclymonds high school in oakland and university of san francisco. just a quick fact

  • @LakersDynasty42 wilt is just a stat stuffer oh cares abou your stats . you play for rings

  • hahanotmuch i appreciate it so much, i don't know how did you adquired the video, but i'm glad that you finally posted it.

  • Great show, thanks for posting. One pet peeve is the use of celebrities such as Billy Crystal ostensibly to provide some insight. Why is this necessary. I would much rather listen to DeFord or Cherry for an hour than the know-it-all Crystal for 1 second when it comes to discussing Wilt.

  • ddenuci i don't know how do you it but you always find when it is upload a new Chamberlain video.
