  • beatifull tone and great tehnique, but are 3 problems:

    1. you need a microfone, (it's trombone,in generaly there's no need, but when u play with the orchestra, you need)

2.the ochestra is a stupid one XD

3.u play to jerky... try to tell continuous something...

    but still very good;)...

  • Why so soft in the beginning?? You're a soloist. So you get all the attention basically. Sorry that just bothered me.

  • Did you lip slur that trill at the end?

  • You have vivid and mild sound. Good Job.

  • Personally, I would have liked it a bit slower during the andante sostenuto sections. Right before the first section of triplets it says con fuoco, with fire, so a lot more emotion there. Not much expression through the entire piece, good technicals though.

  • I think the first section was a little too fast and i didnt really feel the emotion of the piece. I think the middle wasnt aggressive enough and a little under tempo. I think your accuracy and toungueing is great though. I would also have liked to see some more dynamic shaping throughout the whole solo. your c sharp was really good and the second fast part was better. I think you lack some confidence in your upper register. Listen to how Christian Lindbergh plays this.Overall a good performance.

  • Very nice tone and clearity of notes. I'm impressed. More could be done with phrasing and dynamics. Overall a superior performance.

  • I played this in 8th grade...still love it. You did a great job!

  • not gonna lie you are pretty dang good

  • Wow, amazing! Terrific!

  • dude great job. i feel bad that the strings (or the symphony as a whole) aren't as good.

  • Very good! I started preparing for this solo today, and I hope that I can make it sound at least halfway decent to how you made it.

  • solid job, but especially in the legato introduction, theres no real sense of phrasing, make it move towards certain notes. and your high Gb's are flat.

  • theres some lag time which is really annoying but it was really good

  • keep the Bb's in 5th position in the beginning so all of your half steps are together on the same partial. keep the support going on lyrical sections. great tone and tounging though. can't really help the "typical" out of tune orchestra.

    keep playing!!!

  • great job. where can i get the music for the orchestra? please someone help me

  • Decent, but do realize that this is a SOLO, and considering you play one of the loudest instruments, I can barely hear you. Also no real phrasing or emotion going on. Nice job on your sixteenth note runs though. Not bad on the whole.

  • awesome. I'm playing this as a solo today for my school.

  • this was played on my b-day haha

  • this was cool :)

  • that was great

  • you are great, i wish could play like u, all your videos are great! dont even listen to this retards that says u messed up the first note, they cant even play like u so fuck them

  • that's what you have to say about that video? I was quite impressed with the playing. It amazes me how petty people can be...

Anyways, sounds great! I did this for my jury in 2nd year university. I don't remember playing it any better than this or even this well...

  • Good Job Michael!! I remeber being in high school listening to you play like crazy. I never realized until now how good of a player you are.

    Andy Bourn

  • i wish i was asian

  • You sound like Megumi Kanda! Amazing!

  • NICE JOB!! im playing this for solo & ensemble this year. what horn are you playing on?

  • I've been playing for 8 years now and Morceau Symphonique is my favorite piece.

  • i played that solo when I was 13 in 8th grade. i also used it as an auditioning piece for southwest honor band in new mexico.

  • WOw man, I have just started learning that solo. not an easy piece. Im glad I can listen to the piece played so well, it will really help me get a start on it. Thank you

  • lol the notes and rhythms are pretty easy.

its just all the details to make it actually sound good

  • Beautiful! Absolutely stunning!

  • dude, you're amazing, I envy you, like no joke! you were a junior then, and I'm becoming a junior, and I have to learn that for a competition I'm entering. way to make me feel like shit, haha, jk. It just blows my mind that you're from the houston area (at least I think you are) because I've seen some of your other stuff before, and I thought you were way far away! Oh yea, I live in houston, that's why I'm blown away.

  • i know a 6th grader who can play this

  • probably, just not good :P

  • Prove It! LOL Naw, if you know a 6th grader that can play this, I'd love to hear it, really. I like watching all of these 12 year olds being able to get around on their horn well enough to be in and out of college.

  • Look up Peter Moore on here. 12 year old trombone player who just won the BBC young musician of the year.

  • I know a trombonist who is 14, and he is about the same level as Peter, if not better. Its weird how some child prodigies at the same level are more famous than others. This kid could probably play the bourgeois.. well. His older brother won one of the ITG (trumpet) competitions while he was in middle school

  • my bad, that was meant as a response to euphfellowship.

  • I could play it okayishly when I was 12, it's not that hard once you've practised it enough.

  • Yeah, it's really not, I mean I had it down after a week of just running through it, and by down I mean I could make a 1 at a solo competition with it easily. It's really not that hard technically, but what does impress me is the tone of the kids on here and when they play stuff like carnival of venice!

  • I love this piece. Well played young man. A good effort.

  • You guys are a bunch of haters Morceau Symphonique is not easy, and this guy looks like he is in Junior High, I mean its east to sit your ass at home and talk shit about high B flat, but I dont see your video on here. And even if you can paly it is there any quality in the sound? I play Trombone, and have a degree i Music, this young man has a wonderful tone.

  • oh please, i came out of the womb playing a high C#.

good job though. everything was really smooth.loved the runs.

  • you need to learn where to breath man.that music is like for middle schoolers.

  • i'm playing this as an 8th grader

good job only i dont hear too many dynamics...maybe it's just the camera

  • i might play this as a sophmore im in 8th grade now and im playing prelude and fanfarondae great tone!

  • you sound good. especially in front of all those people.. and memorized. ive been trying to memorize this, im playing it for college auditions.. ahhh

  • lol i sound like you except i dont take as many breaths xD.

    then again

    i have a better horn

    king 3b

  • ......

  • How old were you when you did this?

  • Read Info...

  • Ahhh ok stupid me sry...I'm playing this song for my college tryouts.

  • U sound great,

    but the violin

    OMG grrr

  • those 2 girls u see when they zoom onto him are cute O.O

  • So go get their numbers and call them why don't you.

  • rice university? r u serious?

  • Very nice sound! Wow!

  • This is a standard piece for almost any college audition. His vibrato is not very consistent. Great sound. Low Bb out of tune, but great overall.

  • C# isnt that tough on a decent horn

been able to hit it since 9th grade.

  • Not that it's this hard to play I totally agree with you faubeo and Tokemmon that it is not that high. What I liked much about it though was the WAY he played it, he didn't sustain it for all that beat and a half, he just hit it, then let it resonate into the hall. Some might not like this way of playing it, but it kind of suprised me and as I said before, I pretty much liked it that way.

  • My range sucks. i can play C# but not after a long time of practice. then again my horn sucks as well so idk.

  • been able to hit it since 6th grade

  • yeah but my father is stronger than your father.. come on guy...just enjoy

  • argh! i hav to do this as a solo at a national competition in march 2008. uh oh!!

  • so what schol do you go to now?

  • The University of Texas

  • thats cool. Yeah im principal in hys and were playing mahler 5. but you sound good.

  • And to contribute to the vibrato debate, I prefer less vibrato than more, but that's just my opinion.

  • Well done. In my opinion: The dynamic spectrum was a bit restrained esp. in the solo part. I would have made the ending much louder and more triumphant. The C# was nice but I don't see what is so spectacular about it (referencing other comments). The orchestral arrangement was not great. Being a composer, I do have a bias about it, but some parts were not orchestrated right and there was far too much strings and far too little percussion and woodwinds. Who did the arrangement?

  • lol christian lindberg did it im thinking

  • What kind of horn is that?

  • It's a Shires

  • how much do those cost anyways?

  • And if you can't read my post from Dillonmusic dot com, around 4,300 USD

  • I can tell that you are using vibrato, but not with the slide, it is with the diaphragm. This is the correct form of vibrato in classical music, unfortunately vibrato done with the diaphragm takes some time to perfect before it sounds correct. Also it is a bit off in terms of intonation, but overall good job. I remember when I first performed this piece I found the Christian Lindberg recording rather helpful. But if you infact claim to any form of a trombonist, you have already the recording;)

  • get the nitzan haroz recording! In my opinion his tone is a little better, though not as clear as lindbergs. his vibrato isnt as weird too...lol. nitzan takes it at a much slower tempo though, but it sounds amazing. his sound is so rich.

  • WyattOboe you are fucking retarded, no shit he should use vibrato!!!!!!

  • i like ur atyle m8, u use lots of alternative positions. and u hit ur c# nice. nice playing, keep it up.

  • Wow! Wonderful performance. You truly sound like a professional and experienced soloist. And that High C#! Bravo! Otherwise I though the orchestra sometimes played too loud and thus we lost a bit of the solo part at some places. But still a great recording. It's nice to have something to refer to as I'm currently working this piece and I'm in the same range of age (16, but with obviously a lot less experience than you - for how long have you played trombone?)

  • At the time of this performance I have been playing for 6 years

  • you were 17 right?? very well done

how old were you when you first played Blue Bells of Scotland??

  • I guess I was around the same age when I first played Blue Bells. I just played Blue Bells just for one performance with my high school band.

  • Good job orchestra, but you can sound better than that. My high school orchestra can sound better than that despite it's STRINGS ONLY WHICH I HATE ABOUT IT!!! I could arrange this for trombone and strings, but I'm the only bass player. And we'll sound bare without the bass.

  • Keep in mind that the majority of the string players in here are literally from 8-14 years old.

  • What? Vibrato is a great way of giving expression to your playing. Well played by the way.

  • I have a question, if he was to use vibrato since it was a solo, would it be wrong? Because it's a low instrument?

  • That was VERY good! You're better than me. (Though I'm not BAD. I'd record myself, but alas, no camera.) How old are you in that video, anyway?

  • I was 17 years old.

  • any advice for someone who is currently working on it?! a little advice would be helpfull

  • lol... bhscat is REALLY terrible trombone player! I don't know who in there right mind would let him play anything with any symphony :)

  • haha im kiddin.. that kid is gonna be a pro one day..im serious!

  • that must have been so much fun.... you sound 10x better than me, lol--- just uploaded my crappy vids of me playing this unaccompaniesd.

  • Great job guys!!!

check out the Chapman Symphony Orchestra playing Dvorak 8th on YouTube

Chapman University is a private 4 year university in Orange County, CA

The Chapman School of Music has on its faculty many of the top players from the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Pacific Symphony.

  • Is that an Edwards I see?

  • Close. It's actully a Shires.

  • Nice, how were you able to get your hands on a shires at age 17? Those things are expensive. lol

  • I actully got it my freshman year in high school through my very supportive dad.

  • i just got a shires. I love it to death! I'm performin the Gordon Jacob Concerto with the Mississippi Symphony next season. I'm really nervous bout that..haha

  • How old were you in this video? You're articulation and tonal center are damn near perfect! Although I have to admit that the video's sound is pretty quiet.
