I am 27 and a Marine also, currently on my 3rd tour with W/1/7. I wanted to be a pilot also. Age cut off is 27.5 yrs, and you have to complete your degree and have been commissioned before 31yrs old. If you get selected for air, it doesn't mean you'll be a pilot. You could end up as the EWO, who sits behind the pilot, has to know the plane just like the pilot, but never flies the plane. One of our Lts used to be in flight school.

my buddy is a pilot. he invited me out to watch his carrier qualifying approaches. i was allowed to film. i got to be very close to the planes as they practiced...it was prett cool and a once in a lifetime experience for sure.

That is correct. He signed me in...there was an area I had to stay in...but I was allowed to film, and watch, and ask questions. It was pretty cool really. I can't even describe how loud those jets were only a few feet away hitting their afterburners...it shook me down to me bones and gave me deep chills every time. It was awesome.

Can you just don't put any music. Should be better retain the raw sound of the jet than overreacted song. 50% of the joy watching flying jet is their powerful sound. At least mix with music is still acceptable.

Thats a bummer. I remember seeing this video when I was in High School and just dreamed of doing this. I'd watch this on for motivation from time to time and the that flipside song was perfect. I found out last month that I got selected for a Navy commissioning program with a pilot designation so I'm gonna have a chance to fly these things! Still a great vid though.

The two main categories that impress me the most are: 1) It's Supersonic cruise (w/o the use of afterburnering) and 2) radar signature of a bird capabilities (until they have to either unload their bombs and/or missiles, but by then, it's usually too late for the poor target(s), be it static - land targets or dynamic - other fighter a/c). That's awesome.

No. Actually the Marines have Several Air Wings with many F/A-18D squadrons. based in MCAS Mirimar near San Diego, and Camp Legune, SC ( Near Beaufort,SC). Marines use the two seater version( sesignation D) for ECM and as the new F/A-18G "Growler" is enstated into the fleet which will replace the EA-6B Prowler of the Marines and the Navy. Im just about to go to WSO school in Pensacoala, FL to become a rear seat officer in F-18's.WSO=Weapons Sys Officer
