  • I would just like to add that 5th edition back armour in CC DOES NOT apply to walkers (dreads ect) before you and your friends get into an argument about it :P @KingmanHighborn

  • Does the Tau cyclic ion blaster get that extra die when it rolls a six to penetrate vehicle armor? It doesn't explicitly state that the CIB is rending but the rules are the same (on a roll to wound of 6, it counts as AP 1).

  • It counts as a S8 Ap2 (Automatic wound).

So basically, a power weapon with s8 against vehicles.

  • I've been out of playing 40k in for awhile, why are the Genestealers getting the back armor in the vid? Shouldn't it be front armor if that's where they connect? Cause I was under the impression you had to assault the rear of the vechile to go against the rear armor.

  • @KingmanHighborn In 5th Edition, it changed so that if a vehicle is assaulted it's always against the rear armor value. This was not the case in 4th edition.

  • some are just too lazy to read the 5th edition rulebook.

  • cool vid

  • There is one case where Rending is on the 'to hit' roll, Eldar Rangers, look in the Codex, it does clearly state in there that if they get a 6 to hit, then the rending rule is played when using the sniper rifle.

  • Good point. These exceptions to the rule do exist, and is what makes creating tutorials so difficult. Thank you for posting this!!!

  • You're more than welcome, it's the exceptions that cause the confusion very often. But also that make the game so much fun too.

  • Added the annotation to the end. Again thanks.

  • @jboweruk This is not entirely true. The ruling in the eldar codex is for rangers rolling a 6 (pathfinders 5+) to hit count their hits as AP1 this is not rending as the armour penetration rules for the rending against vehicles do not apply. Rending is also only AP2. Rangers/Pathfinders rend as normal on wounding rolls.

  • Nice one.

  • You should do one on Cover saves and terrain. For instance people love to think they get a cover save because they are on the base of the building terrain which is idiotic. If your in a building behind a railing or window, you get cover saves. If you are at the base of a building behind nothing on the area terrain the building is on, you dont get a save. People get that wrong all the time.

  • I did do a tutorial on area terrain, and depending on how you define your terrain, actual or area, a person at the base of a building could get a cover save. I agree, it may seem illogical, but the building would have to be on a base to clearly identify the area terrain from the base table.

It's why talking about how the terrain should be defined pre game is so critical to enjoying the game.

  • You have to discuss this with your opponent before the game starts. If the building is on a base, you can count the entire "area" terrain as a ruin. That would mean that the models on the base with no "walls" between them and the shooter WOULD get a cover save. You have to make this stuff clear BEFORE the games starts.

  • well said

  • it's the citadel battle mat. Neuicon hooked me up with it a little while ago (mentioned it in a video).

  • lol good vid my buddy gets this wrong with his stealers ALL THE TIME..

  • I just love death company....

  • How can i get the rending rules wrong??? I'm a nids player so i'm used to rending cuz of my stealers.... Anyway, NICE VID DUDE keep it up....

  • Fantastic question (but that's why I add "probably" to the intro). It's awesome to know that this rule isn't news for everyone. Thank you for the very kind comment.

The unfortunate thing is that some of your Tyranid playing collective do not get this rule right. Some playing the rending rule from 3rd and 4th edition, some just giving themselves a free 6 on armor penetration if the unit scored a hit. These were the errors I saw in games over the last two weeks.

  • "theRed437" Dont worry man, the nids have tons of lil rules that tend to get forgotten in the midst of a game, its understandable

  • The only reason why this confuses some people is because last edition USED to happen on the TO HIT roll. That was one of the changes in THIS edition. Thank goodness. I agree with Doremicom, it's amazing how many people don't read the actual rules....

  • Truly insightful comment. It does tend to be vetren players that I see get this rule wrong more often because of the slight changes that occur from core ruleset to core ruleset.

  • So if I create a successful wound with, does that mean that Feel No Pain doesn't take affect.?

  • only if you roll a 6 on your wounding roll. This is actually in the "Feel no pain" rule on page 75 of the core rule book.

  • Rending makes it an AP2 weapon which ignores Feel No Pain. Read up on your Feel No Pain. :P

  • this was a good vid 5/5

  • Not sure if it ever comes into play but to be clear rending does not count as a power weapon on a 6, it just automatically wounds with an AP value of 2.

  • the wording on page 42... "These wounds count as wounds from a power weapon"

  • It's videos like this that helps noobs like me learn 40k! Thanks Doremicom (B), see ya in vent. I truly appreciate all your how to's on the rulez.

    Cat/

  • Thanks Catattafish.
