When I was really young, like around 5-8 I used to listen to this song on CD. I memerised every lyric to all the songs and I still know them by heart.This song brings back so many fond memories. ;)
This song was written by Darrell Scott,an incredibly talented songwriter. It is not a rip off of Crosby Stills and Nash. Apparently someone never bothered to listen to either song and just looked at the titles. The Dixie Chicks, like a lot of recording artists, use songs written specifically for them by songwriters.
Try listening to the Darrell Scott version of this. It's on YouTube. Might give you a whole new perspective on the song.

In their last tour, they went to London's Shepherd's Bush theater as they did in 2003 for a pre-tour show, a visit they described as a "return to the scene of the crime". The T-shirt on the last tour's wiki page shows 17 European cities scheduled. Despite what you saw presented in their movie SUAS, the response to tickets was so low they did not tour there at all -a total of over 30 markets cancelled. Where they DID play, they did so to half the seats available.

Whatever GW did does not in any levitate the disingenuous comment made by Maines. She didn't mean it, and said so repeatedly for almost a year. That didn't win back their fan base, so she changed her mind on what she meant (it would serve her better). This song was written by Darrell Scott,an incredibly talented songwriter. It is not a rip off of Crosby Stills and Nash. Apparently someone never bothered to listen to either song and just looked at the titles. The Dixie Chicks, like a lot of recording artists, use songs written specifically for them by songwriters.
Try listening to the Darrell Scott version of this. It's on YouTube. Might give you a whole new perspective on the song.

Why is everybody downing on this group?
1. if you don’t like there music you probably shouldn’t waste your time listening to it and complaining about it.
2. This comment area is supposed to be for this video and not comments related to the political thoughts or who really wrote there music.
I think there songs were great no matter who really wrote them and I don't think of them any less for being politically opinionated. They had a good run and i wish they would make more music.

@Gregorius1953 Even the songs they took credit for were written by other songwriters/musicians. They became nothing but a front for other talent under the Sony umbrella. The only thing different between the Monkees and the DC's are that they didn't interview and audition the DC's, though they should have. A casual conversation with Maines would have shown them what an ignorant bitch she was and is.

@Therealmensa , I was certainly never a fan of theirs for sure! I always hated it at karaoke when somebody did the Dixie Chicks. I never complained - sure some people did not like my Jim Croce and James Taylor numbers, but they were bona fide talents!

@Jonathanfkay Practically everything they produced was a cover tune. Cowboy, take me away was the last song produced by the sisters, and Natalie Maines never wrote any lyrics/music for any song. That includes their last album. During the entire time they were under contract to Sony, their songs/music were produced by a plethora of professional lyricists and musicians. Their claim as co-writers was a bit like you paying a surgeon for an appendectomy and afterward, you claim to be the surgeon.
