does anyone know any good information websites of books about these dogs? would love to get one soon but want to learn more about them first so i can give it the best life possible :) thankyou
My cousin just got two beautiful but very cheap Sharpei pups a brother and sister, they were cheap because they didn't have the eye surgery done. Now she found out that the little sister is basically totally blind and would require $2,000 surgery and still be blind. She can't afford the surgery and is torn between keeping it and giving it away. Its hard once you even look at one of these dogs to consider giving it away. So please people insist on the eye lid surgery before you buy one.
@123backinyerface Oh BTW I am not talking about before you buy one of these pups in the vid, its just the first video I clicked on in my search, I just had to relate a bad news story. Its so painful to watch her not being able to play, she just hid in fear when my dogs wanted to play with her, and she just bumps into things constantly. Very very sad, wouldn't wish it on anyone.
@123backinyerface I never took your comments regarding our puppies, and it's great that you highlighted some of the issues suffered by this poor little girl. These are very cute puppies and often end up in situations with owners who don't fully understand the problems the breed can suffer, and the costs associated with owning these beautiful dogs.
@123backinyerface That's a real shame about the little girl being blind. Not all Shar Pei actually require the eye surgery, although we did always have our puppies eyes tacked to help prevent problems later on. Although if you read the comments of some people they argue this is cruel, and due to lack of thought from breeders. We always take great care when breeding and would never breed purely for heavy wrinkles and looks. The breeder most likely knew of the problem and sold cheaply.
@daimoslain Shar Pei can have problems with their eyes, and tacking can help prevent the problem, it looks painful but having your eyelashes rubbing on your eyes causing ulcers I imagine would be alot worse. That is why we take the advise of our vet and if he recommends the puppies have there eyes tacked then he's the professional and we follow his guidance.
@crcjchacon We have both mum and dad from this beautiful litter, and they get on like an old married couple, never a cross bark or growl between them.
They are called tacks, as Shar Pei have excess skin they can suffer from a condition called entropian were the eye lids roll in and irritate the eyes, the tacks are put in to help prevent this condition in later life; not all puppies have to have tacks but some dogs require tacking again at later stages in their development.
That's sad ur sister lost a puppy, but this is quite common. Our stud Kye sired a litter of 6 last time he was out to stud, and unfortunately like with ur sister they lost 1 too.
We just bred our 2 beautiful dogs again 11 days ago, expecting a litter about mid October. why not subscribe to see the new videos when they arrive.
We have both mum and dad of this litter of gorgeous pups, mum is Tia she's 4 this week, and dad is Kye 4 in November. The pups in the video will be 2 in January, and we have another litter due in October, why not subscribe and you'll be able to see videos of the new arrivals soon. Thx Paul
i have the same dog, her names juliet, and she's almost completely blind and def. its sad, i made a video of her and b4 i made it she ran into a tree.
Such a shame. But unfortunately for this beautiful breed they can often go blind due to entropian, and also due to their narrow ear canals can suffer from ear infections Normally having their eye's tacked or a small operation to remove the skin and lashes to prevent the lashes rubbing the eyes prevents blindness, and regular cleaning of the dogs ears can prevent ear infections.
They're such sweet little sausage dogs!!! My guy, Jerry Wonder, is half shar pei and half jack russell terrier. Pretty much the only thing he got from his shar pei daddy was his coloring though! I still like to watch shar peis because they're so unique.
pups are independent of mum at 5-6 weeks old, and will have been wheened from 3 weeks. however puppies need to have a well regular balanced diet, and will require feeding 3-4 times daily. Puppies can and are often rehomed from 6 weeks.
Don'y understand what's happening with ratings as it keeps giving thumbs down. Sorry it wasn't meant to be.
Yes they are great to watch, and even more so as they grow. What's particularly funny is how they throw there rear end at each other when play fighting.
Don't know why it rated this as -1 i'm sure i clicked on +1.
We have a litter due the end of May beginning of June which have been sired by our stunning male Kye, videos will be posted upon their long awaited arrival. Colors expected are Fawn and Black, and possible Blue. Coat types expected Horsecoats. and Brushcoats.
