  • Go Girl

  • B NATURAL IT WONT HURT!

  • i have an inch of natural hair now but aint doing no BC yet. i grew it out before and got frustrated too. but im going totally natural now. thanks for posting this!

  • most women who go natural do so because they realize that they do not need a relaxer to look beautiful. some people's hair can't handle relaxers no matter how well they take care of it. and there is nothing lazy about natural hair cause it takes work to maintain. have you ever tried handling your natural hair? i bet you cant. thats probably why ur relaxed in the first place. btw...eventually ur follicles will give out when ur old. happy hair :)

  • why in the world would a natural girl want to put a relaxer on her head???

  • ARGGG! ARGGGG! Oh...and...ARGGGG!

  • shut up. you sound so dumb

  • Young ladys like you is why I went natural. I love your natural hair. May God bless you and keep you and give you peace.

  • really great video! I started going natural about a year ago but i put them in braids most of the time cuz i dont have the time to take care of my hair yet.

  • im a guy and i think your hair is beautiful like that i think thay when black girls have perms it looks dull i like your hair alot like that

  • Love your vids! Since I have started wearing more natural styles instead of pressing it I feel more myself. It just fits who I am better...I love it!

  • Great Video! Youre gorgeous!

  • ok i was told that your natural hair wont be the same as it was before u got a perm................is that so for everyone or it depends on the person?

  • But remember, it also depends on what you're eating and how you treat yourself and your hair.

  • im seriously wondering if i should grow out my hair cuz i hate the stress of dealing with my hair

  • I say give it a try. In 4-6 months you should be able to see a decent length of your natural texture and get an idea of what kind of management it will take. Everyone's texture and thickness is different, so it really depends on how you feel about it.

I love my hair and I've actually cut it shorter. It really helped me make it through summer and it's easier to deal with now that I don't live in America and there are almost no Black people here in Japan.

  • And by that "no Black people" I mean to say that there isn't a high population and so almost zero demand for Black hair products here.

  • so....its hard to relax it bc of that! regulars r too weak strong is well too strong lol! so i just decided to go natural again because its easier to deal with and less damaging on my scalp and sorry about the two parts here! im done lol

  • It's all good, everyone has a story to tell, especially about going natural!

Something people don't really know is that when you're pregnant, the doctors tell you not to perm your hair because the chemicals may damage your developing baby. Also, someone who perms their hair over their lifetime has a discolored brain from the chemicals...

At least that's what I heard anyway.

  • Back in January i pulled what I call a "Britney" and went bald (lol)...well it grew back out and i called myself trying to relax it again! Well it didnt work out! I relaxed it twice then I was like ok ..#1..I hate perming my hair and have been feeling that way for a couple years now..#2 It damages my hair horribly and makes my scalp horribly dry! Then on top of that I have a mixture of my moms naturally curly hair (when i say naturally curly I mean its like Hispanic type loose curls) and "kinky"

  • Loved both videos! I'm natural & lovin' it!

  • Thanks, Awesome!

  • Personally I love your hair its beautiful!

  • Thanks! I love it too, <3

  • good for u girl

  • i am so proud of you. Natural hair is so beautiful. We have been taught for so long that straight hair is beautiful and that may be true if that is how a person hair is but for black women our hair is not straight it is curly which is beautiful. I'm transitioning now and I love it. thanks for this video!

  • Thank you! I've always thought that women with natural hair were so interesting... like their personality went up 100+ points just for being natural, even as a kid!

I love my natural hair. The other day, I even thanked my parents for the texture, ha!

  • i like the diana ross part hahaXD

    your hair is beautiful

  • Thank you!

  • Love your hair. I've been natural several times and always went back to relaxers because I didn't know how to take care of it. Now, 2 wks into my new natural journey, I would NEVER go back to a relaxer again. This feels so free. I tried transitioning and having to deal with 2 textures of hair was annoying. So i just cut it all off! I've gained so much knowledge that I think i'm ready now.

  • It's such a huge learning process after living your life with relaxed hair. I'm still learning, too. Good luck!

  • I would like to say as her mother, I was not put off by the natural hair, Christina didn't know what to do with her hair when she started. She had no shine, she wasn't taking really good care of it and my argument was that if you go natural you really need to take special care of your hair. She let me do some twists while she was at a shorter stage which looked nice, but Stina didn't want to keep that up.

You can do more damage than good if you don't take care of it.

  • My hair's not supposed to be shiny, mom... that means it's overly greasy! As long as it's not dry, it's all good.

  • Thanks for sharing. I made the decision to go natural around May of 07 also and I did my big chop in December of 07. I would never go back to a relaxer. During my transition, I would not straighten my hair either.

  • I straightened maybe... once. Now, if someone suggests it, I have to vehemently refuse. I get sad when I straighten my hair, like I'm killing it's spirit. ahahaha.

  • The picture moved. The illusion is destroyed. You shoulda done it against a flat patch of wall. I RULE!

  • You were just staring too hard!!!

  • you're pretty :)

  • Thank you!

  • I'm a stylist in Madison wisconsin that has had natural hair since January. I would encourage women who have no idea what to do with their hair call a stylist and tell them what you want to go natural if they offer to give them a press n curl run, and find one can help you with your hair goal. There are too many ways to wear our natural hair other than straight.

  • lol @ press n curl and I agree!

  • saying that relaxers are the only way a black women can manage her hair is an EXCUSE. there are plenty of resources and information out there to teach you how to manage your hair. black women need to let go of that crutch and be proud of what they have. now, i am NOT anti-straight, i am just against this whole mentality that black women have that their hair is "bad" and needs to be fixed. i love ya hair girlie. God ain't make no mistakes when He gave us this awesome hair :)

  • I completely agree!!! and thanks for the compliment =D

  • We never had bad hair...I am 20 years old and since schools never teach our history I had to learn my self starting from 15 and now...did you know the smartest man in the world was black? I learned so much and how strong we are and the whole ahir thing came from slavery to them we had bad hair...our hair in general is most of the time curly so it bothers me a lot when people say nappy..as in not good. I use pink oil to help my hair and its getting longer : )

  • Nice. Hey, I have a JET Vlog too!

  • Do you know where you got placed?

  • i tried going natural, i lasted a few months then prom came around and i wanted a looser curl... after that i went back to straightening it >_> my hair's at a really awkward length when natural, its like just above the shoulder and looks weird, when straightened it gains a good 4-5 inches. im now trying to grow it out a little more and then try and go natural but it just doesnt seem to grow =\

  • When you go natural, it's probably going to take awhile for your hair to start really growing again. It really depends on how you take care of it and if you treat it well, it will grow longer.

But also, hair length is also somewhat hereditary, so don't expect Rapunzel-type length, haha. Good luck!

  • I say this.. my hair grows faster when its natural.. my hair grew shoulders length in 4 months. Why have it relaxed because i think its cuter on my face and its easier.

  • That's cool. I have no objection to other people straightening their hair. I just think they should look at both options before deciding on one.

My younger sister's hair is thicker and has a tighter curl than mine, so she never wants to go back to natural. Her hair is also stronger because she treats it almost any kind of way and it's still past her shoulder blades, so I can see why she would opt for a perm, ha. I was going to mention that in the vid, but it was getting too long already.

  • Yes are hair grows really fast. Even before whites use perms rarely because it takes out thier hair too. Relaxers are a huge no no. But whites straighten their hair asians are the ones who have that straight hair really.

  • Yeah, I know plenty of white people who blow-dry and straighten their hair to get it flat and shiny and all that. And even Asians from all groups (Japanese, Hindustani [Indian], SE Asians, etc.)can have rough hair.

  • I' mixed with a lot of stuff and I consider myself as black and nothing more. One of my bestest friends is Korean and she says that her hair looks similar to balck people's hair when the humidity hits it. She uses a chemical straightener and carries an umbrella every time it even looks like it is going to rain. She won't even go swimming because she doesn't want her hair to revert back to kinky and curly. It does get really bushy and she said she wishes she could have a wavy ponytail like mine.

  • That's a big reason why I like having my hair natural, I don't have to spaz out when it's humid or starts to sprinkle even just a bit... that's one of the times when I feel ultimate freedom, ha!

  • i got a question. is managing natural hair tough? people keep telling me it is, and that i will have to go to a salon. cant you take care of your natural hair at home?

  • It's not hard at all. I haven't been to a salon in YEARS. If you do a decent amount of research on how to care for your hair at home, you will be successful. Most women choose to use natural hair care products, which most salons don't use anyway.

  • yea its so pathetic how like 80% of black women dont even know what there hair looks like. They drown it with chemicals once they see a a half a centimeter of there real hair and they dont like it cuz dont think it sbeautiful.well god didnt make u to look like a white womens hair!he made it kinky or curly or like wool like a sheeps hair.Jesus hair was like wool.whit women have long beautiful straight hair and black women soft thck hairok!whether u like it or not!

  • Exactly! Embrace what you're born with at least once in life!

  • Your mom's issues should not be your own. I went through that with my mom growing up. She had me believing that straight long sliky hair was more beautiful. I had to find myself through the bullshit.

  • Yeah, she pretty much has laid off after hearing me over and over again tell her that this was decision that I had made and it doesn't really matter what she says because I'm going to do my own thing... I don't really hear much now, thank God.

  • A few months ago my mom decided to get locks. Even now, she still has that mentality that if they don't flow, grow long down her back, or move when the wind blows, they aren't beautiful and she doesn't like them unless I fix them for her. It's sad because her hair is soooo damn beautiful and she can't see it.

  • Hopefully with time she'll realize that just because it's different from what corporations try to sell you as beautiful, that doesn't mean that it isn't.

  • Yeah, I know what you're saying. My hair is very frizzy & bushy. It doesn't lay down... or shine....or swing or move and it's ashame that's what's considered beautiful in Western culture, because it takes so much time and energy to try and MAKE your hair do something it was NEVER meant to do! I think Black women are so brain washed, they don't even realize the time & energy AND money they're spending on straightening their hair! I think we should be free & let our hair do what it wants!

  • I agree with the brainwashing. To me, if someone wants to straighten their hair, that's their decision, but I think that every woman of color should experience their natural hair at least ONCE in life so that they can make a more intelligent decision.

My younger sister's hair is thicker and has tighter curls than mine does, so she chooses to straighten her hair; but thats on her. Every woman should think about WHY she straightens her hair and the cultural significance of this act.

  • your hair is beaitful can u do a product video

  • Sure, I'll consider it. I only use a small number of products, though... but possibly

  • and having to do what fits a mold of beauty. people look at me and say like whats wrong with you, or you cant afford a perm? and im like, i dont want a perm asshole. so yeah, thanks again and sorry for my lifes story. oh one question though, is there a way for my hair to grow better, cuz now it gets hard to comb and its difficult to figure out what to do with it. and what type of products should i use?

  • Haha, it's all good. I don't know what your hair texture is like, but the most important thing is WATER IS YOUR FRIEND. I know you have to avoid it when your hair is relaxed, but when you wear your hair natural, using water is the only way you can comb through it without breaking your hair off. Get a spray bottle and keep your hair damp while combing through it. I comb through my hair while the conditioner is in in the shower, it helps a LOT.

Stick with wide-toothed combs, not brushes.

  • For the grow-out process, you can either hack it off (I didn't do that), or keep braiding it until it gets long enough to where you're comfortable snipping off the rest of the relaxed hair; I just stuck with a banana clip (see in my earlier videos) until I had about 8 inches of natural.

I put a couple links in the description box that really helped me out with lots of helpful information. I know it can be tough to deal with negative comments, especially from family members, but just do you. =D

  • And if you have any more questions, you can always send me a message and I'll help you as best as I can!

  • chaka-people say that to you? what kind of shit is that? you got me wondering now how dumb people have became. "you can't afford a perm" you should say this to them "did it ever occur to you that I don't want some chemicals in my hair that cleans the hair off?" that's why so many of them are baldheaded.

  • ran outta space. anywho, i want to thank you. this is useful info. ive been doing research recently and i am determined to do it. my family is furious, but thats them. my mothers side of the family is half native american, and they always pick on my hair being nappy and they consider that ugly. sometimes, they even talk about my darker skin. but i shouldnt let that get to me. i will embrace my naturally sooner or later, cuz right now, i only have about an inch of growth. but im tired of relaxers

  • i want to thank you for this video. i too, wanted my hair to grow out natural. i started in august, but i let my family get to me. and i went back to relaxers. but im tired of it. i always wanted to embrace my natural hair. and when i was so close cuz i had four inches of new growth, i gave up from pressure. but 3 months ago, i decided that i dont care what they think. im going full way with it this time. i am fustrated at myself for allowing me to do what they think is best.

  • Great Video :)

  • Thanks!!! =D

  • Hahaha, thanks. After all the frustrations straightening it, that was about as "high tech" as this video was going to get. I was soooooo angry and frustrated during the straightening! =P

  • I think we might have the same mother, she too had a from in the 70s. I've been natural for 3 years and my mom wants me to get a relaxer, she now knows not to say anything but she still gives me looks. Also, for family events she requires that my hair is flat ironed straight, I do it about 2x a year but I hate it! Natural hair for life - no more conforming to Western standard of beauty and being something I'm not. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank YOU for sharing!

I just finally told my mom that I'm not going to straighten my hair if I don't want and because there ARE ways to do my hair nicely. I think she really just gave up and decided to leave me alone for the most part. Aside from giving me the occasional "tip"

  • 18,000 views in 2 days.. wow.. Anyway.. love the vid.. hope to see more...

  • Yeah, I don't know how that happened; thanks for the support!

  • you look nothing like Diana.

  • Hahah, in hair only, I feel

  • I LOVE natural hair on black women! Afro, cainrow <3 <3 <3 lol

Not nappy tho. It has to look good lol!

  • Hahahah, thanks? Is that a compliment or an insult?

  • Compliment, and a general statement :)

  • Well, thank you and agreed on the statement

  • Your hair looks cool. I think it really suits you that way.

Wow - you used a bunch of terms here that were totally foriegn to me! I've never even heard of some of the stuff you're using! Thanks for enlightening me.

  • Oh, and according to the view counter, this has 5,650 views!! Has YT gone wiggy again, or did this get featured?

  • Yeah, thanks a lot for the comments!

And yeah, it was only viewable for about 30 minutes last night and I already had 208 views at midnight, PST... it is totally weird!!! It doesn't make any sense because my viewership is just not that big.

It's creepy and I'm prayin I don't get featured or highlighted or some junk. It's a conspiracy!!!!

  • Yeah, seems VERY odd. There has to be something going on, but for that many views you would expect more than 4 comments and 6 ratings. It's now up to 7,649 - 2000 hits in 2 hours? Doesn't make sense. Cool though.

Hmmm - go to the 'Insight' button on the video under 'My Videos' in your account. The stats may give some clue.

Oh, and apparently I can't spell foreign despite being it!

  • Yeah, I checked the insights this morning and the graph said, like, 15 people. I'm still confused because it's at 15,000 now! That has to be a lie.

  • Yeah, I mean, not to detract from the video, but 18,300? I'd love to know what the actual story is though...

  • seriously, me too. I'll keep you apprised, haha!

  • Natural is truly the best, however I had to return to the temporary relaxer due to severe headaches...I was natural for 5yrs. My roots are deep in Africa, too bad for me

  • I like being natural, it's very nice. Too bad about your headaches, though! But like I said, you gotta do what you gotta do.

  • Stina.....do like I do....

...just go bald. It's easier that way.

lol, jk. You're beautiful the way you are!

  • My dad and 4 uncles are bald, so I may get there eventually! Ha!
