All he said in the video was that the first layer is common sense, which it pretty much is, everything that is needed to solve ONE side correctly is basic moves. And if you search YouTube a lot of other tutorials say that the first layer is pretty much basic stuff even if they do explain how to do it.

Then you probably have a dot so you would use the same algorithm to get the L then the line then the cross (F, R, U, Ri, Ui, Fi,)
