Very Good days, still in jr. high but dated all the girls in high school that hung out with my sisters. Chicago was the group and this song just reflected the free love of the time. My sister was the musician and the horns sections of Chicago, Azteca, blood sweat & tears, Donald byrd, Crusaders, tom scott just set us up for a hint of violins for the top hits in the 80s 90 2000)
There was a coin toss or match draw for Colour My World. Apparently none of they guys were rushing to have the vocal on this gorgeous song but Terry Kath managed to get the short stick and ended up singing it and even today, nobody can sing Colour with the passion, love or sex appeal that Terry Kath does.
FANCY COLOURS is here. I hope it still is anyway. There's another video containing FC preceded by TO BE FREE and NOW MORE THAN EVER. That sounds like the LP playing though.
Terry wrote it. Peter sang it. They were really a "democratic" group, and if one of them felt that a song he wrote would be better served by someone else singing lead, he'd let that other guy sing it. I love their early stuff so very much. I'll never get tired of hearing it.
@actormanic That actually varied by author. Robert deliberately wrote songs to fit voices. Jimmy would make them compete to see who sang a tune the best. Terry and Peter typically wrote for their own voices but there were exceptions ... this one was written by Terry but sung by Peter. Likewise, Peter wrote WISHING YOU WERE HERE but Terry sang the main verses.
@DracIsBack That was Terry? I had the LP and he wasn't credited. I always thought it was Peter himself experimenting with deeper octaves, but maybe I was wrong about that.
James Pankow wrote COLOUR MY WORLD and could have sang lead since his trombone was not involved. Robert Lamm wrote 25 OR 6 TO 4 although Peter Cetera sang lead. Lee Loughnane wrote CALL ON ME and Cetera sang lead because either Loughnane was a terrible vocalist or he had to focus on his trumpet.
@arhuxtable Loughnane, by his own admission, was not heavily into vocals. He boasted that he got three leads on 23 albums. But he did like to contribute to the writing.
@actormanic the doors were a democratic group too all songs were credited to the doors no matter who wrote it robbie krieger wrote light my fire ,each member had the power of veto this caused problems later when the drummer didnt want to go on the road anymore .
Very underated song! Notice the clarinet in the beginning?

I listened to the song again, solely listening to the drum part. I didn't even notice the awesome dwelling underneath the rest of the awesome

@arhuxtable Peter cetera wrote the road he was self taught all the other guys took lesons and or studied music in college

Terry Kath wrote THE ROAD. Chicago probably recorded a take of the song with TK singing lead that didn't make the master version.

How time flies. Young lovers who listened to this song in 1970 are senior citizens now!

Funny you should say that. My mom and dad were married in '70 and my dad will turn 62 in a few weeks.
