  • El arreglo es de Oscar Peterson.

  • Great Arrangement.... Oscar was one of the very best.

  • O gênio de Tom Jobim e de Claus Oggerman (Orquestrador).

  • Beautiful!

  • The beauty of Mr. Jobim's work is beyond words. So beautiful. I get upset when people dismiss this work as "elevator music". If so, I want to spend more time in elevators. Oh well! differences of opinion keep the world more interesting.

  • This is Oscar Peterson from Montreal.

  • This is Oscar Peterson playing piano and the arrangement is by Claus Ogerman. The same guy who made arrangements for Diana Krall.

It's definitely a great version of wave.

  • this is Oscar Peterson, from Toronto, but sadly now deceased

  • just think outside the elevator box ;-)

  • LOVE it!

  • this is oscar peterson with claus ogerman's orchestra

  • Hi @danielseides is there any chance you could share an MP3 of this beautiful mix you have?

  • this music is played by oscar peterson...

from the album "The Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook (1994)"

  • @murilotrindade i think it originally came from the album motions and emotions

  • Lindissimo !!

  • Oscar Peterson's

  • This is vince guraldi's version of Wave

  • Genial a improvisação no final!!!!

  • An amazing song, an incredible piano player and an arrangement that is superb.

  • My mission: To watch every video of Antonio Carlos Jobim today for I just found him and bought so many of his song's, only to find he is gone! He will live through his beautiful music "for me!" I love this video, my 3rd this morning!!! This is so awesome!!!!

  • @jazzableful You are absolutely right! Jobim is outstanding. Even though he has passed, his music is timeless, like so many great musicians. Lately, I have been really getting back into easy listening/orchestral pop of which this song can fit into. Guys like Percy Faith, Henry Mancini, Mantovanni, Kostelanetz....the music is so relaxing, peaceful yet invigorating at the same time....enjoy..8-)

  • This is Claus Ogerman conducting and arrangements . Claus was a fantastic arranger.

  • care to dance?

  • Pure awesomeness.

  • GENIO!

  • Simply Outstanding!!! Thank you danelseides for posting this long version of the wave. It is a timeless classic and so relaxing to listen to! Antonio Jobim, may you rest in peace!

  • So relaxing and if I close my eyes I can imagine being on a beach somewhere

  • one of my favorites of all time. I have it in what I call my 5K mix. I listened to this song when I go running.

  • I loved this. so good.

  • Too right. This recording by Oscar Peterson was Jobim's favourite interpretation of Wave. It's a classic.

  • beautiful-thank-you so much for this post....

  • @davidbrucehughes It is very nice. Thank you for the extra information, too. What other musicians would you suggest whose style/taste is of the same standard?

  • oscar peterson

  • Tks for issuing this wave !!

  • I have this album also...amazing music of a great composer and a genius pianist...Jobim and Peterson. My fav arrangement of this song also. And I can't get enough of the the song "Remember" on Jobim's Tide album......addictive music.

  • WOW

  • Sounds like a Claus Ogerman arrangement.

  • Sounds like Claus Ogerman for sure.

  • great work!

  • nelson riddle does amazing double rainbow if you can find it.

  • This is simply an outstanding piece by Antonio Jobim. He is outstanding with his rendition of the wave...I remember them playing this on CD101..9 (WQXR) Smooth Jazz in New York City. Unfortunately, the station is gone now...A big mistake for smooth jazz folks. The Wave is one of my best easy listening toons and Jobim is excellent...so smooth and sophisticated.!!!

  • VERDADEIRA PRECIOSIDADE... JOBIM, INIGUALÁVEL, FANTÁSTICO, EMOCIONANTE...

  • Fabulous arrangement...love it!

  • this is so smooth..am floating..thanks for posting

  • Stumbled onto by accident but how lucky can one guy get? I'm gonna look for the cd... Thanks for the posting! LOVE IT

  • It's a lot like Claus Ogerman's arrangement on Jobim's album Terra Brasilis

  • Woww, just great... no words.

  • Amazing!

  • Wow, it's indeed a beautiful recording.

  • stop it please!!!

  • stop it please!!!

  • I said GOD DAMN THIS SOUNDS GOOD!!

  • The only way this could conceivably be called elevator music is if was a space elevator - the Skyhook

  • So cool. If i did hear this in an elevator, I would stay in the elevator until it was finished.

  • I love these guys with their elevator comments. i guess their brains are in the lower floors? Oscar's treatment {along with arranger of course] on the ending is really very beautiful. As for the elevator comments, I feel sorry for those who are so inclined. Go J-off to freebird

  • @localboy1948 I'm with you, my man. This music is for the 'conscious' only. BTW, if you or anyone else ever heard another rendition of this song with a smooth trombone accompaniment, please post. Like this recording, you'll need a cigarette after hearing it.

  • @localboy1948 now now there is no need to insult lynyrd skynyrd.

  • Does anyone else fall into a deep heaven-like fantasy when they listen to this? :]

  • They don't make music like this any more...

Jesus, just look at that MTV awards crap. So sorry.

  • this could NEVER classify as elevator music. this is so elusive it's outstanding...

  • Peterson never ceases to amaze me.

He can play as fast he wants, but it's still totally laid-back and soothing to hear.

  • That's why Oscar Peterson is the BEST! WOW! XxJacquieeStarnxX You should listen to this piece entirely before calling it elevator music!

  • So delicate! So lovely!

  • elevator music

  • @XxJacquieeStarrxX; you have your propter hoc confused with your post hoc. I also hear Led Zepplin and Lee Ving covers in the elevator.

  • @XxJacquieeStarrxX elevator brain

  • @XxJacquieeStarrxX you're to be pittied.

  • @XxJacquieeStarrxX you are an idiot!

  • @XxJacquieeStarrxX Elevator Music? Then go and "enjoy" Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and don't forget that brain dead Eminem.

  • @Levan1231 Take Five, man! Greetings from cold Russia!

  • @XxJacquieeStarrxX you are an IDIOT get your guitar and show us your music or you can;t MFFFFFFF

  • Wow, thank you so much for posting this huge work of art. And thanks to your posting, now one can know whose version it is. And very nice the edition with the photographs too. It shows your respect. Thank you.

  • Wow. I didn't know Oscar Peterson and Claus Ogerman did a version. Thanks for posting!

  • Beautiful....smooth..love it..that picture of the Christ...fabulous!

  • thank you, maestro.

  • I love hearing this - followed by Nancy Wilson's great vocal version. Absolute heaven! Can never get enough of this sound!!! Dreamy and very cool.

  • There's this relaxing sensation and feeling only bossa nova can provide. I don't ask for thumbs up for this. This has to be proclaimed.

  • In the beginning, there was only darkness and void….then, Tom Jobin created the bossa nova.

  • @yocambembo

    Beautifully said.

He put the Light through his own Prism.

  • Pure magic.

  • Oh man, this is great!

  • J ai cette version, le pianiste est Oscar Peterson, on la trouve aussi sur le Jobim Songbook de verve.

  • The Fundamental Loneliness.....

  • When your eyes met mine it was ETERNITY!

  • as the song goes

...So close your eyes, for thats a lovely way to be

Aware of things your heart alone was meant to see

The fundamental loneliness goes whenever two can dream a dream together...

    This song's very romantic!

  • lovely!

  • magical

  • nice! thanks

  • this is so absolutely beautiful; achingly so

  • Wow. Just wow. This is absolutely the best version of wave ever.

  • Love this!

  • You're right. This is the best version of Jobin's Wave I've heard.

  • This is aural comfort food for my ears...

  • Whata wondeful interpretation of this beautiful melody.

  • Hay muchas versiones de este tema, todas muy buenas, pero qué mejor que la original, nada como ello. Muy hermoso

  • When you compose a great song, it can be interpreted in so many great ways.

God bless Antonio Carlos Jobim and all musicians who honor him by performing his material.

  • Claus Ogerman is the best!

  • There is a version in english, performed by no less than Frank Sinatra! Probably an unused track during the production of the album Sinatra did with Jobim. You can find it on the Reprise label version of Sinatra's greatest hits, or as a single on itunes.

Sinatra really understood Jobim and the bossa nova; it's a killer version!

  • i'd like to hear one with lyrics in english, anyone have a version of that?

  • @ Dcphys asi es unaversion con frank sinatra, y hay otras canciones de jobim que canto tambien, corocovado geniallll de mis favoritas con sinatra

  • @dcphys...... try Frank Sinatra and I believe Astrud Gilberto did a rendering of this song with English lyrics. Sinatra was accompanied by Jobim in his version (which is a classic) I believe recorded circa 1971 for his 'Sinatra' album. Sinatra was still in good voice during these years.

  • well, in this version there's the best of the two worlds, the sweetness of Jobim's melody and the virtuosity of Oscar Peterson that at the end trasforms a gentle river flow in an unstoppable waterfall of notes.... Great!

  • 4:58 is killer

  • danielseides, as aforementioned, the pianist on this versiom of the Wave is the wonderful Oscar Peterson. It is reputed to have been Jobim's favorite rendition of his masterpiece. It can also be found on the Oscar Peterson album, Motions & Emotions, arranged by Claus Ogerman. Exquisite!

  • So beautiful, it brings tears to my eyes, no music effects me like his does. AWESOME.

  • this very rare redition is always worth listening to. your a genius man! since childhood ive loved jobim, his music makes my hair stands! sad to say, you dont get a chance to hear this king of music from the present. to all of you guys, God bless!

  • thanks for putting this up...great version

  • Actually, this version is from Oscar Peterson, you can find it in "The Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook" album which includes an Ella Fritzgerald version of Desafinado and Dizzie Gillespie with Chega de Saudade, and a lot more. Great album :)

  • this even says its oscar peterson, not antonia carlos jobim. :(

  • Fantastic!

Mellow and groovvy! Subtle notes and a great performance. A joy for ever!!

    Charleybnest

  • just bought the album cant put it down since

  • true beauty

  • First heard this recording in ninth grade...man this takes me so far back...

  • Oh my god what a piano solo !!! Jesus!! astonishing

  • es Oscar Peterson del cd "Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook"

  • bellissimo,grazie

  • Wow. I'm just speechless. My favorite latin jazz composer and Oscar Peterson adding extra magic to his song. Two greats in one presentation.Thank you so much. Utube is a real treasurehouse!

  • MAGNIFICENT!!!

  • Danielseides

Tom Jobim foi um dos maiores compositores brasileiro.

    Obrigada!

    Thank you!

  • There should be nothing unknown about this one - the great Oscar Peterson. A classic recording.

  • thanks to share this magic music called bossa nova

  • brilliant

  • played by

Oscar Peterson & Claus Ogerman's Orchestra- Wave

    ;)

  • Jobim o maior do Brasil de todos os tempos!

  • Jobim + Peterson = Sublime

  • Oscar Peterson arranged by Claus Ogerman in CD Album "Motions & Emotions" MPS/BASF 20713-7, 1973 release date. Possibly one of the best renderings on this classic by Jobim ever, specially that great fantasy solo at the end, the giant Oscar at his utmost genius, surely.

  • Let,s not forget the wonderful arrangement by Claus Ogerman who arranged and conducted many of Jobim's albums.

  • We love you Tom . You are Brazil !

  • Yes, It is Oscar Peterson´s version! Jobim is the composer...both are genious!!!

  • Many thanks for your answer. You are right, they were genious. Rip Mister Jobim and Mister Peterson

  • Thanks for your answer :) You are right, both are (or were) genious!

  • @leocosta2007

fabulous. and you're right - both are genious.

  • N'est-ce pas la version interprétée par Oscar Peterson avec le philarmonique de Londres?

  • Best rendition. Yet.

  • Ecstasy, pure bliss!

  • One of the world's greatest composers. The man has left such a lasting impression in Brazil that Rio's international airport was renamed after him. A true legend. R.I.P Senhor Tom Jobim!

  • Thanks!

  • Posiblemente es la mejor versión de Wave

  • La version de Oscar Peterson es muy linda tambien.

  • Fantastico!!!!!!!!

  • Far out stuff and thank you.

Wave is just about the greatest already, and now we have Oscar on it !

  • If you search, Mel Torme sang on this tune, on one of his Tokyo Recordings. Can't remember the year.

  • pleast post a response with lyrics. thank you roselli

  • master piece.

    awesome jazzy version

    luis

  • Great version of "Wave." More laid back feel, and those wonderful strings! Thanks for posting!

  • This great recording is also on the Verve CD called "The Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook"; other great artists on the record are EllaFitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Dizzy Gillespie, and many others.

  • Some one on irc shared this with me. What a wonderful piece of music !

  • I should also add that Henry Mancini's Dreamsville and Sally's Tomato are also on this recording and these show the depth of Oscar's ceativity and musical skill. I miss him so much. May God Grant him Rest.

  • This haunting recording of Jobim's Wave was taken from a LP titled Motions and Emotions which featured Oscar Peterson backed by strings under the direction of Claus Ogerman who also provided all of the arrangements. This was released in 1972 at which time Oscar was working with Sam Jones on bass and Bobby Durham on drums as they are also on this LP.

  • Love this album: The sounds of a giraffe wading through a pool in a giant green elevator. Stone Flower's equally awesome.

  • Thats Oscar Peterson on the piano

  • Performer is very classy, very good i love this version

  • Distinctly Claus Ogerman. He also arranged the Wave album version. Both are ......I don't have the words!!!

  • this is Brazil!!!

  • Great jazz version. Thanks!!

  • Oscar Peterson, orchestral arrangements by Claus Ogerman, the album's called "Motions & Emotions". It's on Amazon etc.

    Thx for the upload, btw.

  • Could be Claus Ogerman but I think it's Emurir Deodato, yes it's one of the best Wave arrangements I've heard. Where did you find it? Does sound like Oscar at the piano. It has a tinge of late 60s to it almost Mancini-ish and could be a Hollywood orchestra.

  • it's Oscar Peterson

  • so beautiful.. so peaceful... marvelous

  • For etwa 30 Jahren lief in der ARD eine Serie. Unterwegs mit Odysseus. Seit diesem Tag konnt ich diese Melodie nicht mehr vergesssen. Vielen vielen Dank fuers Posten . Wunderbar. Alte , alte Erinnerungen werden da wach.

  • bellissimo pezzo. Da sogno.

  • I thought I had all the versions but I was happily surprised to experience this one. Which is the best of all. By far! So, a big big Thanks ! Wonderful !
