  • damn i was crying my eyes out in history because we watched this and every girl was bawling and all the guys were cradling us say "shhhh it's okay." best class ever! =D

  • I Just watched this in my history class. so SWING HELI!

  • @TheRManProds I watched in my history class as well!

  • I fucking hate hitler, he's such a dumbass

  • great movie

  • WHAT AN EPIC ENDING TO A EXCELLENT MOVIE!!!

  • libertyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!

  • i wuld luv to go back there and kill every last one of em

  • what's the music in the background at 6:50

  • It don't mean a thing if it an't got that swing DoooWahh DoooWahh DoooWahh DoooWahh

  • The execution of the final scene is cringe worthy in every despicable way. Sure, the idea is fine but the direction is so heavy handed that it got me busting a roaring laugh. When the music swells like it does here, the studio look of the film is so glossy, and the saccharine image of the child running into the foreground screaming "Swing Heil" at the truck. It's like watching a Hot Shots style parody. Is it self-parody? Nope. I don't think that the filmmakers are smart enough to see this.

  • such a great story... reduced to to such a disappointing ending. So sad when a message is diluted to such a frivolous sentiment (swing heil). There is always so much hope and promise in younger generations why would we want them to be influenced to be so self centered. That movement was to no avail.

  • @notblindleadingblind You sound exactly like Roger Ebert in his review of this film! A lot of people thought the ending left something to be desired. I agree that it’s corny but some miss its intent. At least for Peter, the music came to symbolize more much than just a cultural rebellion. “Swing heil’ might be said to translate as: “Right in the Führer’s Face.”

  • I can't seem to think of something to say that shows how much this movie has changed me.

  • Thank You!!!

  • My god, his solo dance. Just letting all of that out, trying to celebrate, while reeling from the pain. Beautiful...

  • @swinggeist it was sexy too

  • my brother did too

  • I'm so glad I did not watch this in class and had to watch it at home, because I've been crying since part like... 9

  • always crying in the scene,,,

  • swing hiel !

  • We watched this in my History 12 class the other day, and by the end of it, most of the class was holding back tears. Then afterwards, whenever we passed each other in the halls we cried out "Swing Heil!" It was so beautiful. :')

  • 2:22 - seriously, that was kind of scary to me. Thomas... whose side are you on?? Peter, you're an awesome character! <3 All in all, a great movie.

  • Tear jerker

  • Bruce Wayne vs. Jim Carey?

  • @evelsteev Jim Carey? what are you talking about?

  • @7aje7 It's a joke. Relax. LOL!

  • "Punishable activities ranged from true crime to jazz music; the Swing Kids from Hamburg, in particular, were subject to mass arrests as of June 1942;[29] between 40 and 70 of them ended in concentration camps, including Moringen.[30] One of these kids, Heinz Lord, later survived the sinking of Cap Arcona, emigrated to the United States"-Wikipedia Another MUST SEE movie "Sophie Scholl The Final Days" based on a true story.

  • when the text appeared on the screen that cracked me and got me teary eyed.

  • 8 people are Nazis.

  • It was boring watching the whole movie in class until 8:29 happened.

    SWING HEIL, SWING HEIL,

  • this scene is very ironic in comparison with the opening scene to the movie, when thomas is the one dancing and really enjoying hiself and then at the end thomas is the oposition ... amazing movie from a historical and lesurly point of view SWING HEIL

  • thanks for uploading

  • Please, the last song???????

  • @Demdera The last song is Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen- Janis Siegel

  • FUCK THE NAZIS!!

  • @TheRockabillyLover You got that right!

  • watched this in history class :) gets me every time :)

  • @imanitram

lol this was filmed in germany...haha

  • @HelloImClassical It's not like it's still under Nazi rule or anything, they film Holocaust movies there. It's illegal to read Mein Kampf their, they do everything they can from preventing this kind of thing from happening again, and film is one powerful way of doing so.

  • those swing kids deserve to die

  • @Silverknight171 SWING HEIL!!

  • @mysweetsmile23 SEIG HEIL

  • @Silverknight171 Fuck you nazi

  • oh my god we started to warch this movie at school at history lesson but we couldnt see it antil the end and now im watching it and i feel sooo but im cring i cant believe that they took peter nooooooooooo it cant be :'(

  • The music at the end gets me every time...

  • i watched this movie in my history class! and i cried like a baby! but this really makes clear that you have to stand up for what you believe in, don't be afraid of the consequences if you know what you are doing is right! SO SAD but it teaches a great life lesson! i also think this movie make us see the heroes that are not the ones in the comics with super powers... the swing kids are the real heroes in germany and for so many jews and else ... they defended them with their lives! SWING HeIL!

  • Swing kids, Valkrie, Boy In The Striped Pajamas. All must be seen in social studies/ history classes

  • @imanitram... you think this is pure Hollywood imagination ?? I'm from Hamburg where this movie takes place. My grandfather was a swing kid. The Bismarck Cafe did exist. The Swing Movement did exist. I think this is quite a good realisation of a historical theme...

  • @RollotheViking Thank you for sharing your past. It teaches us all.

  • Batman was a Nazi?

  • We have a damn nazi supporter in the comment section.

  • Oh Thomas your an idiot.

  • He was done holding back. <3

I lost it when he started dancing, and I cried when his little brother was chasing him.

This movie, is one of the best I've ever seen.

  • @ZeeNavi Me too. The tears were welling up. Had to keep them down to watch it to the end

  • i think the part at 8:28 kind of killed the mood at that point, and killed the movie for me aswell

  • @Donpatch88 agreed, i loved the movie that was just...wtf

  • This movie is total bullshit. It was not outlawed, the closer you got to Berlin, the more patriotic the music became on the radio. I have plenty of German swing music from wartime, made by mainstream musicians durring the war.

  • @wordbeyotch You are wright there is a lot of German Swing Music, but the music itself is not so important as the message, a message of freedom and democracy anganist the nazi "bullshit"

  • marvellous

  • jewish conspiracy theory is a conspiracy theory it means its a joke that people believe to be true. if u do believe in this than ur a retard who seems to have incomplete education

  • It also makes me angry in this movie they act like joining the Hitler Youth/Nazi party was out of fear. Anyone I've ever met who joined did not join out of fear but out of love, of love for their own race and own culture.

  • @tylerpharaoh1989 You're right and wrong. Some if not most of them did join out of love for their country, race and culture, but also because they might have already been racist or they felt Hitler was doing it because they thought he was good and knew what was best for them. Some did join out of fear of being forced into work camps. Every person you met who said they didn't do it out of fear, don't speak for all of them who did join in general.

  • @Dori0yo Yes, hatred for the Jew goes back a long time not just in Germany but all Eurpoean countries have a deep history of it. I agree, a lot of people did join the HJ and Army out of fear from being persecuted. Most joined out of sense of duty to defend themselves from Jewish oppresion, and the Soviet Hoarde. And don't get me started on the ones who joined for the opportunity being a nazi provided. But opportunists are another disease just going along with things

  • @tylerpharaoh1989: Somewhere at the beginning of this story, it was understood that the Jewish were seen as the enemy, but are there any recommended historical readings that might help a non-historian understand where and how this hatred began?

  • While they danced, men were dieing on the Russian Front through out the war. After the war Half of Germany was given to the Communists. Fuck these swinger bastards. My great grandfather DIED on the Eastern Front at the battle of Seelow heights in the Waffen SS trying to save German Civilians from the Soviet Hoarde... what did these shit bags do... oh yea they danced.... great job shit bags.

  • @tylerpharaoh1989

the point is not about making a grand gesture or act that will bring down the Nazi's, but to stand-up in defiance as individuals against oppression.

Also, there was no battle field for these kids since there wasn't a war at the time to begin with, they were simply some of the first young people to protest against the Nazi hold in the best way they could, and it was their courage that influenced others like them to make an even bigger impact, like The White Rose movement

  • @LadyAmaltheaUnicorn And also to note. Look at Europe now. The Muslim immigrants are taking over Europe at an alarming rate. Roughy they are having 8 children by each parental pair compared to the average German family which is 1 child. Within in ONE generation, German/European Culture will die out. Don't believe me? Feel free to look this up. The way I see it, because the Nazis didn't win the war, Europe as a country and a culture will die out. After looking that at up look at American rates...

  • @tylerpharaoh1989 don't worry. The chinese will still outpopulate them :)

  • @LadyAmaltheaUnicorn *Continent is what I meant to say not country. But no matter I'm afraid we will all are members of a culture and race thats getting smaller and smaller. If the Nazis had won, Europe would be a country, and TRUE UNION of peoples, of Great Peoples, with Great History and Culture. But now we submit to Jewish, and Islamic oppression. So once again inside of fighting the Nazis they should have joined to help save Europe from extinction

  • @tylerpharaoh1989 wow. Way to epically miss the point. To say nothing of the fact that there wasn't even a war on yet.. 0_o

    FAIL.

  • @tylerpharaoh1989 think of it this way. If they didn't do anything important at all, why put them in camps? Why try to silence them?

It's like saying that Lybia doesn't need facebook. Yes. Facebook is pure foolishness. To a free man.

  • I'm so proud of you, Willie! *happytears*

  • "It don't.. mean a thing... If it ain't.. got that swing!" - do ah do ah DO AH DO AH DOAH!

    Such powerful words!! ; - ;

  • Bei mir bist du schoen- Yiddish. Best way I can think of to say, "Suck on it, Nazis."

  • my heart breaks every time. love this.

  • ohhh

what is the name of this song?? it's great!

  • CHRISTIAN BALE!!!! WHY?!?!?!?

  • Such a beautiful film. Thank you so much for putting it up here. Swing Heil!

  • If Peter really wanted to fight the Nazis he would have become a communist!

  • So the way to try to dethrone an evil Nazi regime is to dance???

  • @TheSI982

not to detrone but to rebel. that is what being young is all about.

  • 4:24 Swing till the end!

  • 5 people are Nazi sympathizers!!

  • @BPFanatico cant believe them... if i ever meet a nazi supporter face 2 face, he won't live through it.

  • @jbunit2007 it's not that simple. For a start this movie isn't real. It's based on true events but in reliaty it wasn't the same.

It was really tough to stand up to the Nazi's and you were most likely going to lose.

  • The song is called "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen." Brilliant song.

  • Does anyone know the ID to the song the girl is singing? :( that song is phenominal XD<3

  • peter looks like he going through heroin withdrAWL THE WAY HE DANCES!!

  • hahahaha two streams of blood to one @ 5:59

  • Beautiful and powerful.

  • Know when to pick your battles!

  • a truly stupid movie that teaches all the wrong lessons of how to oppose a tryanical regime.

    foolish

  • @sprucepantherkmt it's not a stupid movie! It's just tragic!! And it definately doesn't teach you how to oppose to a tyranical regime!! It explains the facts and the tragidy of all dictatorships... :)

  • @dauntless10000 rofl it explains NOTHING stop taking ur lessons in mroality from hollywood, kk?

  • @sprucepantherkmt Wow...ur just a big douche bag, arent you?

  • @moastytoasty54 rofl u know more about douches than me fag boy rofl!

  • We watched this in history, so sad :(

  • We finished watching this in history class today, I cried :(

  • I freaken cried to this, I can't believe how this could have happened. Peter was great. Feel bad for his lil bro though.

  • We started watching that on Thursday last week on Thursday at school in English class and finished it today. It's the best movie I have ever seen. I think it was Christian Bale's best role. Thanks for uploading this movie! Swing Heil, everyone!

  • @SuperSentaiFan95 While Christian Bale did well in this film, I still think he did better in Empire of the Sun.

  • Dancing by yourself is the worst feeling... it's like being a ghost. An ugly ghost.

  • Stupid Nazis, luckily they are not governing Germany today!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • the end of this movie gives me goosebumps! such a good film

  • Woohoo! He was really winging out that Charleston step!! I miss swing dancing...

  • Swing Heil

  • @TheGitfiddlekid I totally agreed. :)

  • What happened to Thomas happened to so many of the "Hitler youth". They turned in their own families. They caused their parents and siblings death because they were so brain washed. Sad..it may happen again...it begins in some places.

  • @islandsylph yes. People talk about the wars, both of them like they happened so long ago. My GRANDFATHER fought in the FIRST world war, my Uncle and other grandfather enlisted to fight the Nazis in the second. It is not a "long time ago" for me nor should it be for anyone. As long as there is hate in the world there are Nazis.

  • @islandsylph -continued- One should be allowed to stand up for ones self and their beleifs if those beleifs are so that noone should be persecuted. We are all equal. Best to remember that lest we become what once. Was. History will repeat itself. if you look around you.... it already has.

  • I remember watching this many years ago. . . . .

  • This made me cry. The last movie that made me cry was "Dead Poets' Society". I think I have Robert Sean Leonardisitis.

  • Thank you so much for uploading.

  • thanks for the upload!

  • @TheGitfiddlekid agreed. i couldn't have put it better myself.

  • THANK YOU inlovewithrsl very much

  • IT DON'T MEAN A THING IF IT AIN'T GOT THAT SWING!

    DOWADOWADOWADOWADOWADOWAAAHH!!

  • One of the best movies, and this is one of the best scenes in ANY movie. From all the turmoil and struggle he goes through, he turns to music and dancing to heal the demons in his life. Best dancing!!!

  • That made me cry... :(

  • @LylaGirl3 i know sad huh!

  • Made me cry

And there are very few movies that do so.

Trust me, I didn't cry at the end of Titanic

  • i love this movie!!

i was bawling the moment Peter started singing "It don't mean a thing" to Herr Knopp's face. and than bawling even more when Peter's brother came out and started yelling SWING HEIL!!

  • I've never heard of this movie before and I love Christian Bale. I had no idea there was such a strong youth movement against the Nazis, much less that it involved swing. What a great movie. Thanks so much for uploading!

  • SWING HEIL

  • SWING HEIL!!!!!

  • I'm crying so freaking hard right now. These kids were so strong, staring death in the face and sticking to their beliefs. There is so much we take for granted. I don't know what I would have done in this situation, but I hope I would have been a Swing Kid. "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing." Swing Heil everybody. Don't let anything get you down. Just keep swinging until the end.

  • they may have failed, but they did. succeed by letting there voice be heard, it showed willy the true meaning of swing. my grandfather was a swing kid, he stood out and let his voice be heard. and for even today, there message is being sent to all us teens in the world. don be silenced! dont let anyone put you down! that is the true meaning of being a swing kid. so Swing Heil everyone! Swing Fucking Heil!

  • @akamarufan501 How did they fail? There is no failure because it was an idea. The point of an idea is not to succeed but to make a point. Ideas do not care about success. Ideas live on. This was just one of the many German youth movements against the Nazi regime. They didn't fail because we know of them today and they are held in German history as symbols of the resistance. That in itself is a success.

  • @omltherunner your not getting the point that i was making. i was just using the swing kids as an example.

  • This movie made me cry in class today :(

    I'm still crying..

    SWING HEIL!!! SWING HEIL!!!!

  • It was good to live in that time :D

    Fuck swing! ;)

  • I really liked this movie. The ending is so sad between Thomas and Peter. I give this movie a 9.5/10

  • Gotta give the balls to Peter here.

  • Great movie and very good cast.

  • Christian Bale is such a babe. Too bad he's a flipping nazi in this movie.

  • Wonderful movie! This made me cry! It's so amazing how music or dance can make a difference.

  • This is my absolute favorite part of the movie. The world has fallen apart around him, all of his friends are battered, bloody and beaten (and worse,) and all he has is left is Swing. He knows the inevitable is coming, but he swings anyway. Powerful.

  • this movie really gives you how Hitler brainwashed people especially people my age- scary stuff and it still goes on today- im a musician born listening to country and swing- thatll be me at those clubs lol very powerful movie!!

  • Comment removed

  • sad ending, but at least it shows what we should never become

  • i hate nazis for doing this to these kids. hitler got his.

  • Swing heil!!!!

  • we had to watch this in english class because we just read the diary of anne frank, omg i was about to kill over half the class, they failed to see anything significant form this or from the diary of anne frank.

  • @animesnakeayame We watched this in history class. Almost everyone shed a tear over the last few scenes. ;( Even the guys. But yea, I feel sympathy for you and the blockhead generation of ours that can't see anything past superficial things.

  • @ppbonbon i know right, i think i'm one of the only few kids in my class that even shed a tear.

  • My late father's German friend was the same age age "Willy" and lost his sibling to those camps; so many HATED the Nazi regime ...he just passed recently scarred for life RIP Geunter..wake up .. it can happen again....

  • Swing heil

  • 6:40 is the second-most memorable line in this movie.

  • okay so they took him away and now he is what? gunna go to a work camp? and his stupid friend is just going to keep being a part of the hitler youth? and where did this get anyone?? how did this help anything AT ALL? well then...

  • @thekayrox you obviously are too young to understand this movie. Stop thinking so much.

  • @Donpatch88 we r not 2 young 2 understand what was going on back than. cause it is still going on today. all teens r still swing kids. we just dont listen 2 swing as much as them. so how can we not know it, if we r living it? how i ask u? HOW!?! Swing Heil

  • @akamarufan501 i was not talking to you lol

  • @Donpatch88 it dosnt matter if u were talking 2 me, r some guy in california. point is, every teen is different, but we r all still the same 4 that one reason

  • @akamarufan501 You do not know what it was like because swing music was outlawed in Nazi Germany as was just about every other Western influence. Swing music has its roots in African American music and many musicians were such as well as Jewish which went against the Nazi ideology. To do that in Nazi Germany was to risk being labeled as a political enemy and dangerous to the state. So do not say that you are just like them because you are not.

  • Defiance in the face of evil. Anyone who had any self worth in Nazi Germany defied the Nazis. Doing nothing is the same as being a nazi. If you do not understand this you should find a more worthy values system in which defying the Nazis is the only option even if that means death.

  • this goes to show, that we take a CRAPLOAD of things for granted.

  • this movie is great it made me cry so hard :( GO SWING KIDS YOU ROCK

  • Swing Heil everyone!

  • @Trialbystone17 it's Seig heil
