  • cracking tune , loved it when it first came out , still nice to hear it all over again , thanks for the post :D

  • @speedus98 reminds me of hawkwind and here and now - them were the days!

  • So good. I don't understand why people are talking about Metallica's cover vs. the original. A cover pays homage to an influential or highly respected band, that's exactly what Metallica did. The bottom line is that the majority of views for this video wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Metallica's cover, my view included. Damn good song.

  • musical euphoria

  • That RIFF.

  • 2:19, it's as if the flesh and bone of a living animal has been instantly stripped away revealing its still-beating heart and still-breathing lungs.

  • People always bash the original versions of songs Metallica covered because they don't realize that Metallica took PUNK songs and made them more METAL.. There's a big difference in genre people, get fucking used to it

  • @BlackoutMenace I guess what people are saying here is Killing Joke was the one who wrote the lyrics and released, sang this song way back in 1980. So that means they are the original artist who made this song. Word is Originality. No pun intended.

  • @BlackoutMenace usually when i check out these songs that Metallica have covered its just the opposite, people saying metallica sucks

  • Production-wise, idea-wise, this blows away Metallica's version. Both are good, but this is just incredible.

  • the bass in this is soooooo much better than the metallica version !!!

  • In my opinion you can prefer one version to another but you can't really do a better job than the original ie. nobody can draw Garfield better than Jim Davis...he knows what the original intent is, I love the Metallica one, this is the first time hearing the original, and this one kicks just as much ass so I'm gonna chalk it up to both versions are great

  • @jsuffers so hendrix didnt do a better job than dylan with along the watch tower?

  • @SludgePunkGrunge i thought he did !!

  • I thought it was Metallica untill Johnny Rotten started singing.

  • @coachman4000 johnny rotten? um are you retarded?

  • @SludgePunkGrunge No sense of humor? Ok, I'll stop trying to be funny.

  • @coachman4000 = FAIL

  • @coachman4000 go jerk off to Cliff's dead body, philistine.

  • @buttgolem Fuck off cock sucker

  • @buttgolem Ok. I will. Then what?

  • I may be shouted at for this, but does the tuning on the guitar remind anyone else of the MMPR theme tune?

  • Love this album! Anyone who can recommend another album from Killing Joke with this poise?

  • @38wonderfullife you should pick up revelations. another of their excellent albums.

  • @38wonderfullife not exactly along these lines, but buy, beg, borrow or steal a copy of "Pandemonium". if you havent got/heard this album, my advice to you is to do so.

it really is, in my opinion, an excellent album.

  • another one of my favs by them...cheers from nova scotia, canada

  • yeah another one here - this version killed metallica's for me.

  • I like the metallica version more because the vocals and instruments are cleaner (clearer, more pronounced). that is all. both versions are great though!!! some will argue that an original will never be as good as a cover (for sake of preserving the original idea/mood) - - and I usually agree! - - but the metallica cover just has clearer, cleaner vocals and instruments which I like.

  • @oOoIIoOo I heared Metallicas version first. I loved it. But when i heard this version, Killing Joke... now i dont like Metallicas version anymore... This is so fking great, awsome. I think i will buy this album.

  • anyone else think they based the Duke Nukem theme on this??

  • @kane5000

Yeah..... It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all outta gum!

  • Still think these guys were grandfathers of industrial!!!!

  • @TimothyRWebb Definitelly, along with Kraftwerk and Ministry.

  • yeah its fuckin great !

  • COOL!

  • Spent a summer painting a huge crane to this album - this was also my favourite song on the album

  • very good song.

  • better than metallica. i used to like metallica but now with their gay shit i hate them now. lol.

  • @ImmortalSpammer I think your totally wrong... metallica are realy legends and they don't deserve to talk about them like that! realy now, just think about what are you saying about this band... metallica wrote some of the best heavy metal/thrash metal shit EVER!! anyway THIS SONG IS FKIN AMAZING!

  • @ImmortalSpammer

    LMAO OMGZ SO FUNNEE!!

  • that is fucking badass!

  • how in the world can metallica cover this 7 years after killing joke recorded this and still have worse sound worse overall tightness and not nearly as brutal vocals?!?! becouse killing joke are eternall and never get outdated

  • Metallica's version is better, but this is the original. And I think the drummer here is actually better than Lars. I dunno quite why I say that, but yeah!

  • fucking love it...what a superb sound.

  • WHATS THIS FOR? THIS IS MADNESS

  • @swampdodger33 this is no madness, THIS IS SPARTA!

  • you've GOTTA be kidding me. a year ago my band came up with a song that i wrote called the wait. and i guess it already exists. now people are gonna think we copied. thats just great

  • @mrusername09 i know , thats really typical. it sucks, i have done the same thing many times, but the world are full of music and its something you just have to live with, but it doesnt matter, the song it self is what matters, the beautiful music coming out of the instruments is what makes a song, i am pretty sure your song rocked man, if the music is like the song, thats something else, but you shouldnt listen to what others belive, listen to what you know : )

  • @mrusername09 i have wrote alot of songs that happened to share the same name with out knowing....chill out

  • the original is the best. metallica is overrated, only their albums with cliff burton are worth anything.

  • tallica's version ruled but this original rules even more due to the fact that they wrote it! case and point.

  • This, apart from 'Eighties' is probably their best moment. Think Metallica covering it is a great affirmation of the link between New Wave and thrash...

  • @mookie2637 If anything, it's just an affirmation of the link between certain pre-industrial and post-punk styles with Thrash.

  • I like both Metallica and Killing Joke. I heard the Metallica cover first and that is what got me to checking out Killing Joke's music and I love them!

  • This band opened the door for me on this genre and a lot of amazing bands. I'll never forget my first though.

  • This band opened the door for me on this genre and a lot of amazing bands. I'll never forget my first though.

  • the riff of the original power rangers theme song sounds very similar to this one

  • i bet five bucks with my friend that as soon as i scrolled down to the comments we would see commenst about metallica, she owes me five bucks BECAUSE GODDAMN I AM GOOD, the top comment is about tallica

  • I knew this song, like many others, from Metallica's "Garage Inc."

When I heard this version for the first time I had 9 orgasms

  • pure energy

  • it kind of sounds like the songs from power rangers

  • @xriddles3 just a little bit :D

  • So under-rated.

  • i compete in fighting and i mostly do kickboxing but soon i may compete in MMA and when i hear this song all i can thnk about is the nervous feeling you get before a fight

  • It was a great Time.

I was listening as a young Boy here in Germany at John Peels Music at BFBS in the 80tees.

    Killing Joke rules !

  • Esta canción es casi igual a la de NOWA ALEKSANDRÏA de SIEKIERA cuál fué PRIMERO????

  • @krautlatte Killing Joke was before NOWA ALEKSANDRIA de SIEKIERA.

  • @czlapek82 anyway for me its still cool album a mix of "nigt time" and "what this is for"

  • WARRIOR MUSIC

  • Metallica is a piss-stain.

  • Lot's of arguing but come on, this is a slammin' song and Metallica did a great cover. WTF is there to argue about? Oh yeah, who's better. If you gotta, go ahead. Your opinion doesn't change a thing.

  • @blakedawg76 There can be no one better than the original that's why it is an original?????

  • @steviedavey1 Sometimes the cover is great too, maybe even better. Sometimes the original band doesn't get to record it the way they really want, or the covering band is great and has a great way of playing it. I think both versions of this song rip. Thanks to the person that posted this I have heard Killing Joke's version of this and it rocks.

  • @steviedavey1 That's not what that word means.

  • I respect killing joke but I thing jason is better than Martin at that particular. He kicks the shit out of it!!

  • Pezzo rock, pieno di zone oscure, energia sciolta da chitarre potenti ed efficaci..viva il rock'n'roll!!!

  • The Amebix got a lot of influences from Killing Joke!!!Bad ass tune!!!!

  • The first time i saw them was in june 1980 in Les Bains, second time was in 1986.

They remain my favourite band. Actually it's more than a band to me, it's part of myself. These ongoing arguments about Metallica drove to listen to their cover and I must say I like it. Obviously drums are weak compared to KJ and as for singing nothing compares to Jazz. But the guitar part is pretty good.

    Long live Jazz and KJ.

  • @TheHurzx u saw them with lesbians?

  • STOP TALKING about SHITALLICA!!!!!!!!

  • This was an extremely very good band with an even better drummer.

  • Love the fuckin drums in the beginning. Makes me want to run down the street tearin shit up!

  • Def my fave KJ song.Metallica did good cover, but this is original and best

  • Wotta awesome song!!!!

  • why wait???? it is already here.......

  • Metallica make a cover because they love this song an not, like some guys here, thinking that this song is shit!

    Think about that!

  • @AlexandraVioletta Best point of the post. Rock on!

  • @blakedawg76

    Thanks :D

  • Killing Joke, Swans and Slayer - the 3 most important bands of the 80s in terms of innovation and influence. It's hard to believe this song is over 30 years old. Noisy as fuck, incredibly heavy and so damn raw. The only band to ever beat the pure agression of this album would be Swans - but Swans did it the opposite way, if you will.

  • Sorry im a metallica fan but their version is nowhere as good as this original. Im English and they are English sorry tallica i like your cover but come on this is killing joke!!!!

  • Batman.....

  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers?

  • Only killing joke can do killing joke .... no covers PLEASE....

  • @julianhorton

Kind of agree - often covers just don't capture the spirit of the original ... however... they often have a positive side effect in that it can introduce you to positive new experiences - point in question this track - I "found" a band I love to bits as a result - the band in question "Black Warrant" - who also do a few metallica covers to boot - their MoP cover is a joy to behold - try black warrant - I guarantee you'll be looking at other bands in their country - 100%

  • another ausome tune from them.....cheers from canada...(way better than metallicas version)

  • nothing beats killing joke seen them in Roskilde (tallica fan)

  • The drums are definitely much more kick-ass in the original, but I like the sound of the guitars more in the Metallica-version.

  • Loads of power and energy! love it! (the metallica cover's pretty good too :P)

  • i hear alot of amebix in this

    awesome band \m/

  • Neither version of this song is better or worse than the other, because music is entirely based on OPINION. If you prefer this version then great, if you prefer the Metallica version then also great :) But if you're being close-minded and ignorant by posting stuff about KJ being some kinda poppy weak rubbish then you can fuck right off and keep your opinions to yourself.

All that aside, I fucking love this song, does anyone know of any decent bass tabs for this song??

  • @Lidgefrid

    well said that man

  • I thought i came to listen to killing joke....

  • if you people honestly think on here thats this is better then metallicas version.. your fucked in the head.. metallicas version is ten times better then this shit lol

  • @heyybii

You're contradicting yourself dork, there wouldn't be a metallica version without this SHIT.

  • @DoctorWho1983 dork lol.. what ever nerd! anyway ya you are right that thease guys made it first..... METALLICA JUST MADE IT BETTER!! BYE BYE :)

  • Comment removed

  • @heyybii obvious troll is obvious

  • kick ass song.

  • True Anarchists, Killing Joke, who I have no doubt believe to the hilt that art is free, having to decide between more exposure for their ideas, and the means to that end being supporting the arch-toadies of copyright law, whose shutdown of Napster stole exposure from so many

    Talk about a devil's bargain

This is the 2nd 'intellectual property' I know of that Metallica, who whined about their intellectual property, have taken to use as their own, the other being Thin Lizzy's Whiskey in the Jar

  • far superior to any cover.

  • THESE people are nuts maybe one case were the cover destroys the original

  • lamb of god is influenced by them!!!

  • @shar0610 Lamb of God also sucks.

  • @19Labrie63 get a life faggot

  • @shar0610 If I had no life, I could not write this.

  • @19Labrie63 god some people are really so lame

  • @shar0610 Yeah, oh well. I was just fucking with you, though.

  • @19Labrie63 oh..n i always thought eunuchs couldn't fuck

  • @shar0610 Okay.

  • @19Labrie63 peace

  • @shar0610 Indeed, seaweed.

  • Metallica probably ruined this song for all Killing Joke fans. I myself did not know of this band before Metallica but I can imagine how bad it sucks seeing all these 12-year-old wannabe metalheads talk about Metallica on this video when they should be talking about the song.

  • this song was about 20 years ahead of its time...

  • Why they don't put this in radio?!

  • Anyone commenting on the "pop" in this song has no clue ... if you are old enough to have been aware of music in 1980 you would realize how NOT pop this was --- popular music followed this, but it took a long time to catch up. Way ahead of its time!

  • always an uderststated band but a great one that influenced loads. Credit and respect to Kiliing Joke

  • 1980's album!?!?!?! i wasnt even born yet!!11!!! but i love their music1!!

  • @NEPAS77 lol im 11 years old.

  • @NEPAS77 And? I'm a huge Iron Maiden fan and their heyday was the 80's. Doesn't matter when your born, what matters is the music. I'm 15 btw.

  • @NEPAS77 good that you kid listen this music

  • Haha, listening to this song makes me realize how much the punk band Amebix were ripping off Killing Joke.

  • @classicklezmer They were influenced by them, I wouldn't say ripped them off

  • no competition killing jokes version above the gods :)

  • ..........still of the most spite fueled songs ever.

  • Nobody here is talking about THE SONG.

When I hear this I am taken back to young men in the Roman legions, shaking with fright before a battle; the troops in the US Civil War, wondering if their arms or feet or head will be blown off at Gettysburg; the soldiers in landing craft approaching France, vomiting and terrified as they creep closer to their fate.

They are all waiting... Waiting to die. INCREDIBLE SONG!

  • @radtech21 simply. your historical point of view is agreable. :))

  • @radtech21 Wow...Never listen to it like you, but you sure have a point.

  • @radtech21 Romans had a consistent habit of rape, enslavement, and genocide. I doubt they were afraid. I think anyone who heard they were coming was.

But hey! They sure did have some pretty buildings!

  • this song is awesome!!

  • 100% Perfect !!!

They were ahead of their time !!!

  • Metallica led me here but this version is freaking sick, too. Love it! KJ rules! listen to "Another Bloody Election" and "Death and Resurrection Show" and "Love Like Blood"!

  • Very similar to Wish NIN.

  • Dude, props to 'Tallica and everything, but this is the original. It's kickass! Nothing against Metallica, they're my favorite band. But come on guys. If you think Metallica is better, I mean that's your opinion and I respect it, but it sucks ass. Metallica do great covers and their cover of this song was kickass too, but this is the original. This is the real treasure. Like it or not, this is the raw version, the version Metallica fell in love with.

  • @CarpeDiemGoddamnit you know, the tone of Killing Joke is pretty much unparalleled. I can see why Metallica dug them so much what with all the hairspray around them.... :)

  • @rebusd See: Original Faith No More with Chuck Mosley

  • You cannot compare two subjective things, now shut up and go sit in the corner.

  • Killing Joke is the shit.

  • Who cares which version is better? I happen to like both Metallica and Killing Joke. Just enjoy the fucking music!

  • this is awesome. was only aware of metallica's cover. this is superior by far.

  • i like how there's an advert saying in English "learn English for only 1 euro"

Oh and this song is awesome

  • fuck metallica. KILLING JOKE

  • this is a great Metallica cover

  • @MrProzacmilkshake This one is the original dawg.

  • @MrProzacmilkshake

It's actually Metallica who covered Killing Joke..

  • \m/

  • Everything that Punk should have been

  • metallica coverd this song because they respect killing joke.

    the way it should be.

  • @ramborandy12 hang on a minute mate, thats my comment! i wrote it a couple of months ago.

could be a copywrite issue here.

its in the hands of my lawyers now, see you in court! ( or we could settle out of court, i would accept 500,000 sterling, or a bottle of carlsberg and 20 B and H, its your call bud )

  • waaaay beter than metallica.....

  • First Killing Joke video im on, probably the angriest fan base ever, I think im gonna leave...

  • i just can't see the argument, killng joke were here years before anybody else had the guts to make this noise and yet they are ridiculed for not being BIG, well forget nirvana, mettalica, nine inch nails, think about it guys. ahead of them all and insparation to too many to mention cos they are geniuses, so just thank KJ and not see how many SOLD. any way, rant over as no contest!!! look foreward to any pros and cons( no contest )

  • it doesnt matter what you prefer, just enjoy it all the same, each to their own...... stop crying over milk that hasnt been spilt! kids, tut tut!! ;)

  • wow wow wow wow wow wow awesome new wave POST PUNK love the DRUMSTICKS awesome

  • no offence to killing joke fans but i think metallica's version is better cuz it seems to have more energy
