Rumours have said that they had to clock it slower to meet with energy efficiency and industry standards of max consumption... but for OC's energy aint a problem. We will probably see cards OC to the performances we had expected from the latest Radeon card. To compare NVidia and ATI atm aint fair. NVidia are out of the race for budget cards and are not done yet with research of dx11 cards. They will release a few cards but they are 6 months behind.

hey man..i'm both an ATI & nVidia fan boy....no need to panic!!! the HD 5970 is basically 2 x HD5870 chips packed into one board....but will relatively less clock speeds....and the new drivers are yet to come....so surpassing gtx295 is just a piece of cake....The ATI HD 5970 retails for $625....but i think the gt300"fermi" will hit the markets with an eye popping 1000bucks....lets see....the graphics market is getting hotter and hotter....

Ok, first off.....I love ATI (Nvidia Sucks lol, jk they are both pretty epic no matter which one you chose). But you have got to be a friggin idiot to pay ~630 dollars for this or any card. There is no need for it, there is not one game out there that you absolutely "have" to have this for. It's just a big waste of money, if you just had to have it right when i came out......i feel really sorry for you :(. erhm U cant really compair stock 5970 to 2x6870:-) the 5970 has been downclocked so its actually running like 125Mhz slower on the core.. the 5870 is running 850 and the 5970 is running 725..:-)
