Someone could vandalise the unit by hooking up over 22 volts to the 9v pins and fry the chips inside rendering the device useless and the occupant locked out of the house.
This action could also potentially supply power to the deadbolt and open the door in an incredibly simple manner.
Someone could clone the RFID chip, or the USB card or watch you enter the code.
This makes your house more insecure seeing as there were two problems with normal locks, copying the keys and picking the lock.
@gadgettts i've got some microwave emitters that are pretty pocket sized... though i wouldn't dare put it in my pocket :P how would the chips fare against the microwaves? i made the emitters as a side project when i was taking the transformers for some tesla coils.
Second, I think they were more concerned about a "secure Mechanical override" (aka "a lock") would defeat one of the main purposes of the lock, which is that it CANNOT be picked. (ANY mechanical lock can be picked.)
Pleased Someone can Remember Talespin.Kudos ( :P))
Over time any lock can be picked providing You have the right tools, Skill and time to do it in, They Could have given the owner the choice of Cylinder to put in the lock such as the Abloy protec or Evva MCS.
There is a 9volt port at the bottom of the unit that will allow you to temporarily power the unit. There is also terminals for hooking up house power. -- It all depends on how redundant you want the lock to be.

i dont think it sounds like a sales pitch, after all your not pressing it on someone to buy it. A review is simply that...a review...good job too. got my subscribe.
Ok, of all the problems people come up with, I just had 1 problem with it, here's the scenario: Woman meets man, dates man, loves man, gives man keytag. Woman finds man to be alcoholic abuser, kicks man out, but can't get old RFID tag back...how would you delete that tag out without having to reprogram all the tags again?...
...what I mean is, wouldn't it be great if it had another port that can be connected via usb to a computer to read what time people go in and out and to better alias names to keytags and disallow people when needed...who knows, maybe you find your daughter has been sneaking in at 1 in the morning? or does it already have this option, you should explain that.
Hopefully they do data collection next model, that would be nice for home and office, but for 300+ bucks, I'm pretty sure it'll only be seen in office (even the rich look for other means, like ...full cameras with heat sensor following and tagging, or security officer). Then again, even OJ's wife wasn't safe even if she had that device....ooo..snap. lol
I was thinking about making it wireless, but then again, wireless technology is proven time and time again that it is easily hacked (being a network engineer, I see it every day). The only way I can think of is to make it a 1-way system (the lock communicates entry details wirelessly, but need a hardline to create/edit access). Seeing details like "John enters 11:30" wouldn't give up key information =)
You would need to reprogram all the tags. But that would only take a few seconds. --- Here's a better scenario: Woman meets man, man dates woman, woman gives man a combination to get into house, man meets a younger woman, woman finds out man is a playa', woman changes key code. Rinse -- Repeat!
Very interesting. They've covered the power-failure angle nicely, but what happens when the motor fails? (I presume there's a small motor that opens the deadbolt?) If you are inside, you can use the manual dial, but what happens if you are outside?
Motor failure (or ANY electronic failure) would effectively lock you out. You would have to find another way in, or break the door jam. To be fair to MyKey however, the chances of an electronic failure that would leave the mechanism completely inoperable is less probable that the pins in a traditional deadbolt rusting into place.
Still... I like the fact that you are thinking of possible scenarios!
There are two methods to combat that problem. First, there is a power port built into the device that allows you to connect it to building power if it is availible. Secondly, there are two small contacts above the keypad that allow you to connect a 9V battery and temporarily power up the unit.

peterfranjohnson,
1. They passed ~1 million volts through the unit and it didn't do anything to the electronics.
2. Yes you can clone, but this is EXTREMELY short-range RFID. They would have to be within 3 feet of you and the lock.
3. There is NOTHING more insecure than a physical tumbler lock. I can pick one of those in under a minute... and I'm not that good at it.

Even the most powerful pocket microwave emitter would probably not affect a circuit board that was enclosed in a block of steel.

powercord123456 2 years ago
powercord123456,
There is no mechanical key. It's an electronic lock.

i mean without card or fob
powercord123456 2 years ago
There's a keypad on the unit... you can use that.

i mean at 7:42 he says about opening without fob by holding for 3 second soo am i right
powercord123456 2 years ago
No... You can CLOSE the deadbolt by holding the exterior button for three seconds.

Perhaps they should have thought about that, perhaps they did but just being too cheap to put one on.
