If women want men to stop characterizing them they must stop dressing like that character i.e. a Slut. The same logic can be applied to a Black youth who wishes not be characterized as a street thug he must stop dressing like one. As I've stated before, the issue of rape cannot be solved by a protest like this or any protest at all. It is more of a psychological issue rather than a societal/political issue.

@osgangstarrr -I think that the fact that women can't be overtly sexual without being labelled as "a slut", (which is what you think) is where the problem is in the first place. -I think that you have been manipulated by culture into thinking that it's somehow wrong for women to be highly sexual. And this is the whole point of this: to address a core wrong thought -that men can be very sexual but women who are must be worth less, 'slutty'. -a word/attitude that totally strips her of all power.

Subconsciously you dress that way so that the opposite sex notices you. All women do this. You dress "sexy" in the house to boost your self-esteem. Women wear make-up to cover up imperfections so that when the opposite sex notices them they only notice perfection not the blemish that popped up overnight. To generalize, women dress provocatively to boost their self-esteem BUT their self-esteem is only increased when the opposite sex NOTICES them. Refute that ladies.

@Astartify Putting rape and slut-shaming under the same category and protest them together is senseless. I consider both "slutty" and "macho" behaviors gross, silly, inelegant, licit. This is part of my freedom of expression. Rapists' testosterone should be wiped out forever.
We all have so much energy and time. Were I a woman, I'd give slut-shamers very little of both. I would focus on fighting criminals. And I'd tell younger girls violent guys are not cool. Probably futile though.

@Torontopia here is how i feel. i am a guy, i'll say that now. i don't feel women should dress like "sluts", as they put it. it's not a sexist thing. i don't think we GUYS should, either. HOWEVER, rape is absolutely NEVER the victims fault. i believe that rape should be in the same criminal classification as murder. i can only imagine the effects that go on for the rest of the persons life.

No one is saying the way a woman dresses is a defense for the assailant (if it were up to me a rape trial would end with a public hanging) No one is saying a change in clothing would eliminate sexual assault.
What we are saying is that modest clothing reduces but DOES NOT eliminates the chances YOU will be a victim. To say it doesn't, is like saying a bullet proof vest didn't protect the soldier who was shot in the face and he need not have worn it.

Clothing does not affect rape. Rape happens because some douche decided to rape and he decides because of the likelihood he can succeed in his attempt, not because of the clothes the person was wearing.
