  • love the drumming on this song

  • If everyone had this opinion there would be world peace 'angry words wont stop a fight, two wrongs wont make a right...'

  • This was the only time they played this song live in concert

  • This is my favorite U2 song of all time and has been since War was released (yes, I'm old) - thanks for sharing a live version!

  • great song, on of my favourites, ever

  • This song seems more rebellious than sunday bloody sunday.

  • @MrMonono123aware

It is the most rebellious song ever written I think--because it flattens all institutions to the ground. Church does nothing but fight--organizations do nothing but fight- countries do nothing but fight-everyone is really just concerned with their own narrow-self interest-and the monetary system exists as a symptom of people's unwillingness to get along and it preserves the establishment of war--whose purpose is to divide and conquer.

  • @VenusFreedom777 Thank you for the kind comments :)

  • @MrMonono123aware Wow--I don't know if they were kind but thanks--I suppose if we actually care for each other on this planet--then somehow will make it--it also would not be a bad idea to begin to get with the times and incorporate the scientific method for social concern. I mean--we might be able to actually end war and poverty if we put our hearts and minds to it.

  • war might be the best u2 album. its a few years after getn comfortable making music. this was the album they took off from.

  • would sound great in the claw hoho

  • i to listen to this song over and over again sometimes. :D

  • hell yeah i still have my war cassette from then

  • wonder who has the original of this now or if it's even still in existence

  • War is a great album, lots of underated songs

  • RAW!

  • Pero cómo mierda alguien puede tener grabada esta canción??? si es muy re vieja, muy power y muy bajo perfil..... Vale la pena tenerla, ya que jamás nunca ever la tocarán en vivo again...... notable aporte!!!!

  • But how the hell could someone to have this record???, knowing taht It's so old, so strong and so low profile.... Actually, worths to have it, because they will never ever play this song live again.... Good contribution!!!!

  • Is Bono drunk? :L

  • My 2nd favorite song. Angel of harlem is my 1st.

  • woah! thank you for posting this! one of my favourite U2 song... still many people don't know it, good job!

  • I got two thumbs down from my comment two months ago, I was only stating the obvious, there was nothing derogatory. People should get a grip sometimes

  • great song, i think on the next tour this song will be dusted off like into the heart a few years ago, be great live tune with more heavy guitar and drums, u2 should rock more

  • my favourite u2 song! thanks for posting!

  • it might a rare live track, but its not a rare live song at all, its on their album, war or boy, dont remember, but I have it

  • it's on war

  • it's on "War", i have it too.

  • Never thought Id hear this live u2 should re record it

  • Great stuff :D!!

  • BTW thanks for putting this up. I really forgot how much I miss the old Bono voice of the early 80's it was the reason I liked them in the first place. And what was he like 22 when he wrote these lyrics? Sheesh, talent.

  • its a shame that he now writes songs like sexy boots

  • but there are some nice lyrics today, moment of surrender, magnificent and white as snow mainly are great examples of this imo.....

  • It's a shame that you don't seem to realize that bands grow and change with time. Do you really think that guys going on 50 years old will still have the same persona as they did when they were 20? Tisk

  • I agree. U2 is nothing like it was then. I thought Pop was their favorite album, it was so creative and different but people couldn't handle it and now they make songs like sexy boots... lol but seriously..

haha I can't wait to read the replies to this

  • c'mon, they make songs like boots but they also write masterpieces like moment of surrender

  • Christ, one of my very favorites!

  • I think one of the reasons they don't play this song is because many of their songs pertaining to Ireland, and the constant conflicts there, are often misinterpreted. The lyrics are clearly against the war ("Angry words won't stop the fight Two wrongs won't make it right A new heart is what I need Oh God, make it bleed") but they capture the rage present with the actual music and some people falsely assume they are supporting the conflict, something I imagine pains them.

  • OMG the edge has the same sound than the studio version, this is one of my favorite u2 songs. I would like to listen again these songs instead of NLOH songs (with the exception of magnificent)

  • cool, never heard this before

  • I can't believe this is the ONLY time they have ever played this. I guess we're really lucky someone was taping this, haha! Such a great song.

I think they probably don't remember many of their songs that weren't big hits, but if they listened to this again they would wanna play it. Especially so Larry can go off!!!

  • i love this song its underrated war is a phenomanal album but bono sounds like ian curtis a little

  • Nothing wrong with sounding a bit like Ian Curtis!

  • This is a step or so lower than the version on War. I guess Bono couldn't pull off all those high notes live.

  • of cours power full its called like a song very best

  • This song blows my mind every time I hear it. It's so powerful, like all of their early songs

  • So rare , my bro and our buddy jam to this song often, its unbelievable how many good tunes U2 has. So many songs but such little time to play them. Some day maybe they will play it again.

  • the last picture is very cool

  • what a track..................I remember very well buying the `war` album & getting home from the shop...................just played it again & again

blew my socks off, BRILLIANT album

  • Walking home through King Harmon's fields in 1989 this song popped into my head. I ran home and played the War album on vinyl.

    Brilliant.

  • like a song es U2 puro

  • No puede ser que no la hallan tocado mas =(

  • es la unica vez que like a song... fue tocada en vivo. Una Lastima, es de las canciones que mas me gustan junto con Stay y all I Want is You.

  • Good bootleg tape. Must be better ones though.

    (He! He!)

    Paul Hewson & Dave Holland

  • wow

    i love u2 live

besides this song is one of the best along with the strength they had at that time

    go u2!

  • Pre-War tour?

  • for me THE BEST SONG OF U2

  • I agree with you on that one.

  • i love youtube because we can see or hear our favorite songs.

  • Wow, never thought I'd hear a live version of this on youtube.

    Nice one dude.

  • u2 played liverpool twice in march 83, icould physically feel larrys bass drum punching me in the stomach. I've been a drummer ever since that time, what a drummer.

  • Thanks, man! :)

just wondering how did you record it? ;)

  • I Love all the Songs on War but The Refugee Has to be My Favourite

  • listen the way edge slides his gitar in front of the verse...let the bells ring out...course theres nothing left...is there something left???

  • best U2 song ever

  • war is my favorite album..every song on it is incredible!!

  • war is my favorite lp of alltime, it changed my life.

  • Totally agree mate. I was 13 at the time and I wanted to be Bono. Shame they changed so much though. All went down hill after Unforgetable fire

  • are you daft man? they have the greatest rock drummer of all time.

  • for me the best u2 song. no more war here in colombia

  • "A new heart is what I need, oh god make it bleed." Love that line.

  • awesome! thanks for posting this- i love this song- can't believe they've only played it live once.. i just made a video for it, thought i'd just make a note here-. it's on my profile if you care to look. cheers

  • Just another of U2s greatest songs (all of them)

  • this is my favorite U2 song =) 5/5

  • larry is freaking brilliant in this song

  • a great version a an underappreciated masterpiece

  • This one of my favorite U2 songs EVER and no one ever mentions it. It's so underappreciated. I wish they would play it way, way, more. I love Larry's drumming in this song.

  • I agree with you..Drowning man is my #1..October is #2,,Bad#3...thanks for giving the words....cbono69

  • I love the War album and this song. But it just doesn't sound right so many keys lower. Just doesn't have the kick of the higer version. Listen to them both and you'll agree.

  • Yes, it does not sound the same, but remember, the Boys were Very young (not to mention who knows where the recording came from)! Becoming a Master of One's Art takes Time...

  • I'm one who thinks the war tour was one of U2s best. Sunday Bloody Sunday for instance, I've never heard them perform that better than Blood Red Sky. I don't think age is a factor, I just think the live version of this song hasn't got the impact of the album, that would be true whether it was then or now.

  • woah you don't like the rattle and hum version? i know its different but its amazing. And what about the one one the elevation tour dedicated to the omma bombing? it's my favourite song of all time and the red rocks version isnt the best.

  • you are thinking of sunday bloody sunday

  • War best u2 album !

  • merda yo quero ver el video!! no hay directos de esta cancion?

  • can you send me this song to my email?, please

  • Great!!! one of my favorite songs, thank you, is a jewel of song.

  • It sounds like Bono wasn't really into it. Still my favorite song on the War album.

  • i love this old u2 stuff .. Best band ever !!

  • One of my favorite U2 tracks!! Thanx so much!! Yes, only performed this one time...I wish they'd bring it back. I've been searching for this recording forever!

  • thank you thank you thank you. My favourite U2 song ever.

  • one and only performance of this song, they didn't like it so it was dropped from setlist, maybe forever... I doubt Larry would be capable of that hard drumming now...

  • ah the sensation of early U2 college days, hey thanks

  • I have this boot.

  • Great song and cool pictures
