It is the most rebellious song ever written I think--because it flattens all institutions to the ground. Church does nothing but fight--organizations do nothing but fight- countries do nothing but fight-everyone is really just concerned with their own narrow-self interest-and the monetary system exists as a symptom of people's unwillingness to get along and it preserves the establishment of war--whose purpose is to divide and conquer.
@MrMonono123aware Wow--I don't know if they were kind but thanks--I suppose if we actually care for each other on this planet--then somehow will make it--it also would not be a bad idea to begin to get with the times and incorporate the scientific method for social concern. I mean--we might be able to actually end war and poverty if we put our hearts and minds to it.
Pero cómo mierda alguien puede tener grabada esta canción??? si es muy re vieja, muy power y muy bajo perfil..... Vale la pena tenerla, ya que jamás nunca ever la tocarán en vivo again...... notable aporte!!!!
But how the hell could someone to have this record???, knowing taht It's so old, so strong and so low profile.... Actually, worths to have it, because they will never ever play this song live again.... Good contribution!!!!
I got two thumbs down from my comment two months ago, I was only stating the obvious, there was nothing derogatory. People should get a grip sometimes
great song, i think on the next tour this song will be dusted off like into the heart a few years ago, be great live tune with more heavy guitar and drums, u2 should rock more
BTW thanks for putting this up. I really forgot how much I miss the old Bono voice of the early 80's it was the reason I liked them in the first place. And what was he like 22 when he wrote these lyrics? Sheesh, talent.
It's a shame that you don't seem to realize that bands grow and change with time. Do you really think that guys going on 50 years old will still have the same persona as they did when they were 20? Tisk
I agree. U2 is nothing like it was then. I thought Pop was their favorite album, it was so creative and different but people couldn't handle it and now they make songs like sexy boots... lol but seriously..
I think one of the reasons they don't play this song is because many of their songs pertaining to Ireland, and the constant conflicts there, are often misinterpreted. The lyrics are clearly against the war ("Angry words won't stop the fight Two wrongs won't make it right A new heart is what I need Oh God, make it bleed") but they capture the rage present with the actual music and some people falsely assume they are supporting the conflict, something I imagine pains them.
OMG the edge has the same sound than the studio version, this is one of my favorite u2 songs. I would like to listen again these songs instead of NLOH songs (with the exception of magnificent)
I can't believe this is the ONLY time they have ever played this. I guess we're really lucky someone was taping this, haha! Such a great song.
I think they probably don't remember many of their songs that weren't big hits, but if they listened to this again they would wanna play it. Especially so Larry can go off!!!
So rare , my bro and our buddy jam to this song often, its unbelievable how many good tunes U2 has. So many songs but such little time to play them. Some day maybe they will play it again.
u2 played liverpool twice in march 83, icould physically feel larrys bass drum punching me in the stomach. I've been a drummer ever since that time, what a drummer.
awesome! thanks for posting this- i love this song- can't believe they've only played it live once.. i just made a video for it, thought i'd just make a note here-. it's on my profile if you care to look. cheers
This one of my favorite U2 songs EVER and no one ever mentions it. It's so underappreciated. I wish they would play it way, way, more. I love Larry's drumming in this song.
I love the War album and this song. But it just doesn't sound right so many keys lower. Just doesn't have the kick of the higer version. Listen to them both and you'll agree.
Yes, it does not sound the same, but remember, the Boys were Very young (not to mention who knows where the recording came from)! Becoming a Master of One's Art takes Time...
I'm one who thinks the war tour was one of U2s best. Sunday Bloody Sunday for instance, I've never heard them perform that better than Blood Red Sky. I don't think age is a factor, I just think the live version of this song hasn't got the impact of the album, that would be true whether it was then or now.
woah you don't like the rattle and hum version? i know its different but its amazing. And what about the one one the elevation tour dedicated to the omma bombing? it's my favourite song of all time and the red rocks version isnt the best.
One of my favorite U2 tracks!! Thanx so much!! Yes, only performed this one time...I wish they'd bring it back. I've been searching for this recording forever!
one and only performance of this song, they didn't like it so it was dropped from setlist, maybe forever... I doubt Larry would be capable of that hard drumming now...
love the drumming on this song
