  • Have you ever heard the Swedish version by Cecilia Vennersten?

    "Lämnad i mörkret"

No youtube video, but you can find it on grooveshark.

Not saying it's better, but kinda interesting if you're a fan of this song.

  • What a touching lyric and song. I´ve been there so I can feel it.

  • this song reminds me of my ex boyfriend :(

  • Only this man could pull off this song after Barbra did it in 84

  • Only this could pull off this song after Barbra did it in 84

  • 5 ppl were left in the dark

  • you can't beat the raw emotion sadness passion his sexy voice love love love meatloaf

  • Barrbra's version is excellent, Steinmans is mediocre but forme, this is the best version. Saw Meat sing it live on tour with just a piano & meat in an armchair, as if he was waiting for his 'date'.

  • Wish Meat had recorded this back in the day.

He's pretty good here, and the emotion as always is perfect. But his control and tone when he's singing quietly is nothing compared to him in his prime.

Can't listen to him sing Heaven Can Wait and similar ones these days...

  • fan...tastic! I didn't know he sang this. Thank you.

  • Oh, I don't know people. I think Barbra and Meatloaf are a tie! The discussion continues! My opinion equally good, but "different!" The other are really good,

but these two are the best in "my viewpoint!" viewpoints3

  • @viewpoints3 Streisand? You have to be kidding! Ughh! Meatloaf's superior, Streisand voice is ugly!!!!!

  • @torro454 You are Nutz. And the only one that thinks Streisand voice is "ugly."

  • @Monrocsol hehe, Her voice matches her disposition. She admits she is very hard to work with, treats people absolutely horrible, and is extremely arrogant. That shows in her voice. The absolute antithesis of Meat Loaf. I know many people that don't like her voice, separate from her terrible disposition. Regards.

  • @torro454 Obviously, you repeat what you have read.

  • @Monrocsol Oh, you read all about her too? Hehehe My view comes from many years of interviews, observations, etc. You are good for a laugh at least! I forgot to mention, she also admittedly is VERY PROUD of those characteristics (from a Live Interview she did.) Her UGLINESS of disposition sure shines through! Meat Loaf puts his heart, and soul into all his music, without such non-sense. Great people don't forget where they came from, Meat Loaf is still genuine. Streisand... A Promoted Joke!

  • @Monrocsol I am willing to make a bet that you will never find that interview, but if you do please upload it.

  • @Monrocsol You might try to address that to me. Hehe. No, I get information from many places, at many different times, and she is not young. I believe that quote was from a Biography, on TV. It was in her words, right out of the horses mouth, there was NO mistaking it! I do have witnesses. Hehehe No Joke! Fact is, you like her regardless, I do not. She is highly promoted, far beyond her true talent, and primarily a studio artist. Enough said.

  • meatloaf is so sexy with short hair

  • Remember when you could watch a video without having to sit through commercials?

Remember when music videos were uploaded by users and not VEVO

Remember when all the info was to the right of the video?

Remember you could rate a video 1-5 stars?

Remember the famous yellow subscribe button?

Remember when the users controlled the site and not corporations?

Post this in every video and lets start a youtube revolution!

Thumbs up to keep at the top of the page!

  • nobody beat the original....barbra streisand she is the best. This version is horrible

  • @tajtt1 - so which is it? The original by Jim in 1981 or Babs' cover from 1984?

Each version is different; the emotion content is the interpretation each artist make - and yes Babs probably has the best voice. But Jim's version has more venom in the "anger" parts to the song, and Meat draws at my heart strings like he always does in the melancholy moments.

  • @tajtt1

    a) The original version was recorded by Jim Steinman, who also wrote it.

    b) Like all the songs on Steinman's Bad For Good album, they were written for Meat Loaf. But his voice needed a prolonged break after touring to promote Bat Out Of Hell and Steinman got fed up with waiting.

If you prefer Streisand's version, fair enough. But Steinman's version was first and this is how it was always supposed to sound.

  • @KCKevinCarter That happened with several songs that got postponed, and done by other artists. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Meat Loaf, but this would have been better had they not had to put it off. Although it is still awesome! Same with "It's all coming back to me know."

  • @tajtt1its beats not beat. and by the way youre full of shit fucking lesbo. LONG LIVE MEAT

  • This kicks the crap out of the Barbara Streisand version several times over IMO.

  • It's amazing how he can do all of this without even moving his face or opening his mouth, a TRUE artist

  • u r the best ever xxx

  • Saw Meat live and he was asked about this song, he told the story of how it was written and the late night call he received at the time. Then he just blew us away with a live version that was so unbelievable. Not a dry eye in the house.

I have loved it ever since.

  • @c44holmes

Please tell us what he said. It has to be profoundly bittersweet...

  • whoooooooooooo great music

  • Such a powerfull song. Amazing stuff and Meat Loaf does it really well. I do like Jim´s version a bit more though. He´s got, i don´t know. More passion and pain in his singing in this song

  • This song is just right for me and the lyrics fits perfectually.

  • @fagermannen01 ......its just right for me too......could have written this song myself

  • This is so incredible. I love Meatloaf. This song is so intense and so full of

    passion! viewpoints3

  • OH...I cannot choose between Barbra and Meatloaf! Wow! I love him!

    He is So Good! viewpoints3

  • Barbra's version is very good but this is the best - Jim Steinman writes awesome songs but alas hasn't the voice to do them true justice. The passion Meat shows in this is amazing - you could almost feel the emotion.

  • Can't stay away from this....love Steinman, not s'much lovin' the Streisand version...but, this version....heartfelt & haunting. Love it.

  • Love Meat Loaf no matter what song he sings - this one is just one of the best when you need it most

  • GOD

  • This is so incredible! I LOVE Meatloaf! He puts so much "emotion" in his songs!

This is a Wonderful song! Awesome! I stil love both his and Barbra's version...and

consider them comparable...but so different! viewpoints3

  • One of THE best Meatloaf songs ever in my opinion.

  • I have never heard this version. But, I am so glad that I checked it out. Meat Loaf is awesome!

  • i love this song

  • Hi BooKittyRadley!

    I am "back here" again...still love both Barbra and Meatloaf!I I also like Steinman's version....no matter what...this is a

    wonderful, passionate song! Wow! viewpoints3...

thanks for this one coming back again!

  • la mejor interpretacion no hay otra...

this is the best performed of all no more...

  • Absolutely brilliant. I've listened to all three versions and I'm still not sure which is best. No one touches Steinman when it comes to passion and contrast.

  • I will never stop listening to this song! I love Barbra's

version....but, Meatloaf is just wonderful also!

I could never decide between them...they're both..equal, but

    different...both incredible! viewpoints3

I haven't listened to this for a long time...have listened to

    both versions...incredible! Thanks to both!

  • Fantastic record.

  • 5/5 ofc.

  • jim stiemens song always, never will be beaten for sheer passion.

  • BooKittyRadley..Thank You! You have made my day..really! I am laughing...and as I have just listened to both of them..and love them both..whatever the words! signing off..and looking forward to talking to you again on Barbra or Meatloaf's site! viewpoints3

  • BooKittyRadley..Ok..I give in! You are correct! We have spoken before I believe!

Yes, this is a "judgement" of the music to be sure...and I agree.."not meant in the most serious fashion." My gosh...In the "judgement of the music" I "know" we can listen to them both and appreciate what this man and woman both give as individuals to the music! I think we appreciate them equally..and I will listen again and again to both. I'm sure we will cross paths again as we both like good music! viewpoints3

  • I Kiss You!

    :-*

  • Hey BookittyRadley...you are "partial to this as he says "so take off your dress." What would you have Barbra say? That is Not a judgement of the music. viewpoints3

  • I would have her say, "so take off your dress".

A little homo-erotica of the female flavour. Call it charity.

Yes I am aware that she is heterosexual.

My comment was not meant in the most serious fashion. But this IS a judgement of music.

    :-)

  • sadness at 6:11

  • Wow! This is incredible! I will listen to Barbara...but..."nobody" can surpass this! viewpoints3

  • I like both Meatloaf's version and Streisand's version. But I'm partial to Meatloaf's just because he says 'so take off your dress'.

If only Streisand had used that line instead of 'as I watch you undress'...

  • dis song is lovely!

  • 1 million times Meat Loaf version...The emotion, the sadness...I just want to get at the truth..

  • For everyone who saying Barbara's is better or Meat's better. Here's a realllllll quick, everything Meat Loaf covers instantly becomes the superb, definitive addition.

  • Very heartfelt, prefer Barbra's tho.

  • Superb song, Meats version is superior to any other. I have Jims BFG, sorry but the guy just can't sing. Great writer and producer, thats where his genius shines through.

  • meats version is better than barbras

  • awesome song, so much better then barbara's version! =]

    i love meat loaf <3

  • One of Meatloaf's very best songs...."who made the very first move"..love that little part at the very end...

  • this was written by steinman and his version was fantastic. check out the album bad for good.

  • listen at 6:11 - how sad

  • this is a classic Jim Stienman song and when jim sings it, it sends shivers down your spine.

  • It sounds like cowboysong i still like the original version of barbara streisand

  • i like both versions. Jus love the big guy!

  • Barbra's version is just so much better

  • Far the best version of this song. Beautiful.
