Great video, Mike; planning on gittin' me a Gold Cube soon myself. Where on Superior were you when you shot this video if I may ask? I have noticed others ask this question but I don't see an answer...I'll understand if you don't want to give away your spot.
Diving is permitted and so is dredging. The permit though is a real bear!!! The main reason is that we are talking about international waters. The Glacial gold is very small and a dredge would just blow it ALL out anyway. I'll stick to the concentrated bands of blacksand on the beaches. It was here we invented the Gold Cube to handle this small gold so we can get all that fine gold. Have a look at goldcube net
There was about 5 grams for the whole weekend and we traveled 2600 miles round trip. About a 1/2 gallon went into the pump. Was it worth it? Hell Yeah!! When you got the fever, money isn't the goal.
@SuperTomcatUk The following year we had a version of the Gold Cube -goldcube net- Ran about 20 times faster and had a greater retention. look for "Lake Superior 2010" Thanks for looking.
@ok2co hello to you... I loved your video ! awesome clarity to it... you should check out a video by,
" goldrushgang" called, " micron gold the easy way " ! it is truely awesome ! and it does work very well !
before you put any cons in the buckett make shure you run your "rare earth magnet" through the material very well for the best results ! I use the "Majic Wand" magnet. It also works very well ! Your video has me ready to take a trip right now ! lol...
Nice video! WOW the black sand! did you use a bar magnet to remove the magnetite? I have been wanting (WILL!) to go out on Oak street Beach here in Chicago, and pan the black sands just to: A.see if I can find a few specs B: See the minions reactions, and the queries from Babes in Toyland!
Have a look at the new video, We were able run 100 buckets with the new machine. Didn't miss any of the gold. After testing the tailings all day we only found 3 specs. That makes it less than 100% but not much. Quicker than drying it too. Thanks. Oh by the way I did run some of it dried through a gold Excorsist. Only had about 35% retention though.
great video, i was a little confused at first, i did'nt know that you could get gold from the beach sand around lake superior. i knew you could get gold from beach sand at nome alaska, BUT A LAKE!
Rule number one, gold is where you find it. These lakes are so large they act like an ocean. Tides and everything. Water will move gold, it can't taste salt though. It is a blast getting this gold, it put everything you know to the test. It will leave you mezzmerizzed when you see how brilliant it is. This gold is where we found it, minus what we took home. Thanks
About 5 grams. I was running the water at normal speed and the angle at 12:1 I lost half of the gold. Kept checking the tailings and found gold in every test, not good. The rest of the days I reduced the water down to half speed and reduced the angle a 1/4". I processed half the material and got 2x the amount of gold recovered. That was good but frustrating! I knew the gold was in every scoop! It tested my patience! The last day I filled some research buckets and hauled them to the truck.
Long tom would be a good way, but in Michigan you are only allowed to have a Certain length for sluice boxes, and a long tom type of sluice is to long.
Thanks, It was a blast. All I have to do now is to come up with a way to process more black sand. Two scoops of this heavy stuff and I would have to wait 5 minutes for the riffles to clean out. This is HEAVY stuff. One 5 gallon bucket weighed 165 lbs. a third of a bucket was all the handles would allow. Thanks for watching.
I would suggest next time, use a blue bowl or a Automatic Panner (spiral bowl) to handle the black sand. Then nice part about both those is that you can do your cleanup right in your Kitchen, garage, or even when you are on the "John".
I also live in Michigan and over the past year have become interested in looking for Gold, this video is a great help!
has anyone heard if gold has been found on the minnesota side?? im dying to get some flash in this state.

Those are some of the most amazing black sand deposits I've ever seen. Nice gold too.
Keep it up.
