i love this song so much and her. oh to have lived in the uk during the depression i would have loved it so much , to walk along the front in a seaside resort in the 30's born too late
That's another thumbs up from me for Elsie Carlisle. Now does anyone know what happened to Elsie's version of My canary has circles under his eyes ? It was on youtube a while back, but it appears someone has pulled the plug ! Grrr
Thank god there were people who never had to endure the depravity of hip-hop! I am so very glad to shoulder the filth now knowing they knew of better things, better times...
According to my musical esthetics, this is the only musical ambience for this song, and a song that can only be sung by a woman, realistically. After all, it's a lament. And given the time it appears, in a male dominated society, it's difficult to accept a man singing it. "You've got me cryin' again..." Nah, I'll pass, even with the likes of Ray Charles singing it.
EXQUISITELY BEAUTIFUL, I LOVE IT! I love Elsie's delicate heavenly voice, the ultra romantic lyrics and the sweet sophisticated Ambrose orchestra. I am so happy I found your channel! :-) Thank you so much.

On a scale of 1 to 10 she's a 12. Ambrose had great rhythm. My favorite tune of theirs is "The Clouds Will Soon Roll By." Tks.

This became a favorite of mine when the sung portion appeared early in Dennis Potter's "Pennies from Heaven".

Fabulous - absolutely epitomises the early 1930's. This was used in the 1978 BBC TV series "Pennies From Heaven" starring Bob Hoskins.
