Recall the when this interview was done. R&B music, inc. Hip hop, was finally getting recognition by mainstream USA, after years of being 2nd class music. Her style may have appeared to be diff than what one would expect of an AA women in 2000. She was getting criticized about her music even before her mid80s popularity.
Ppl who grew up to her music recall Tina’s soul music, or as it was known in the early 60s, “black music” that she and Ike produced. In the early 60s, if white ppl listened to Black artists, it was done secretively – this was how the USA was in the early 60s. IOW: the country was so segregated that blacks listened to black performers and whites listened to whites. It was like that for many years.
the interviewer @4:15 forgot that although her music, her work, "is like that of white rock bands", those same white rock bands are playing and ripping off black music. just shutting it down for a moment. :)

Yes, she has pride! More than you and I can imagine! The woman has been through hell and back with her mother leaving her as a child, an abusive and drug-addict husband, including being a mother with four boys, performing countless times with busted lips, leaving Ike with only 36 cents and Mobile Gas Card, and resurrecting her nearly-failed career!!! She could care less about what bigoted people call her!!! She's larger than life and a positive role-model for so many people including women!

be quite u know nothing why i the hell would she won't be remember something like that. u talk all this but do u know what her family did to her as a child beacuse how light she is. they denied her u ass. they would say smart shit out there mouth like you are another man's child. u try being her. i bet u won't last a day in her shoes. do u have any pride? don't piss me off. last thing i have to say she is mix u ass. why in the hell do she has to say she is one race when she is not?
