12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[a] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
There is no biblical basis for purgatory. The young man in the video is deceived. He is getting his anti-biblical notions from the Books of the Apocrypha. Christ suffered on the cross SO WE DON'T HAVE TO. Only His credit card is big enough to pay for our salvation.
@johnthreesixteen316 tell Me where were Abraham,Lazarus Moses and Elias? He was already dead four days (John 11:17) when Jesus arrived at his tomb. Where was his soul during those four days? It could not be heaven or hell for the same reasons as for Moses and Elias Abraham,Lazarus . Please tell me where they were ..
@martlut 2 Kings 2:10-12 11 "Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. " I'd say they were with Elijah, and where was he?
People, don't be deceived by those who preach the unbiblical man-made doctrine of purgatory. Christ went to the cross for all of your sins so you don't have to be punished. 1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given.
@johnthreesixteen316 Amen. If the rcc is Christs' true church, why has all the unbiblical traditions and teachings been added on by man at different times in history?
Catholics defend purg. by quoting the uninspired 2Mac12:40-46 where a "sin offering" is offered for dead soldiers who had committed the sin of idolatry. This not only contradicts the Bible, but also catholic teaching, because idolatry is a "mortal sin" that would confine a person to hell. An ex-nun said the only purgatory that exists is the priests' pockets and that popery is of satan. I agree with this 100%.
Listen, we are PURGED OF OUR SINS ( not some, ALL ) by the blood of Jesus Christ. Heb1:3,Rom8:1 and John5:24. Remember "there is no more condemnation when Jesus passed over our sins and paid the ultimate penalty for us." Why didnt the apostles ever discuss purgatory? 2Cor5:8There is no mention of pur. here.
"Now there is no need to pray for the dead who are in Heaven, for they are in no need; nor again for those who are in Hell, because they cannot be loosed from sins. Therefore after this life, there are some not yet loosed from sins, who can be loosed there from; and the like have charity, without which sins cannot be loosed, for 'charity covereth all sins' [Prov. 10:12].
@hapipadi If you are justified by His blood, you have salvation friend. Nice and simple. No need for confessionals, sacraments, the eucharist, rosaries, saints and apparitions pretending to be Mary or any other man-made deceptions. Christ said "it is finished".
Man-made traditions vs God's Word......hmmmmm. Honest and sincere people who seek God's truth will use the Word of God to judge and measure the words and doctrines of the Roman Catholic church.
The Roman Emperor Constantine established himself as the head of the church around 313 A.D., which made this new "Christianity" the official religion of the Roman Empire. The first actual Pope in Rome was probably Leo I (440-461 A.D.), although some claim that Gregory I was the first (590-604 A.D.). This ungodly system eventually ushered in the darkest period of history known to man, properly known as the "Dark Ages" (500-1500 A.D.).
Throughout all of this, however, there remained individual groups of true Christians, such as the Waldensens and the Anabaptists who would not conform to the Roman system....
@kiwichristian2009 such twisted history... who taught you this? obviously the anti-Catholics. First of all, Constantine did not even become a Catholic until close to his death... Break the continuity of the Church and this is what you get.. some weird version created by modern deconstructionists.
@hapipadi The true church of Jesus Christ is a relationship, not a membership. It isn’t any particular protestant denomination or Roman catholic. It doesn't have a roof or an address. We are the Body of Christ, past, present and future from all around the world who have accepted Christ’s work on the cross for our sins 2000 years ago, once and for all. Our names have been written in the Book of Life from the beginning. 1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given.
@martlut - John 1:12 "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name"...John 8:31,32 "Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, 'If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."Col 1:18 "And He (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church..." 1 Cor 12:27 "Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually."
@martlut gee its not in jn8:31,32 nor any of the other scriptures you posted gee where does it say this in the Bible The true church of Jesus Christ is a relationship
The simple form of worship from the heart was replaced with the rituals and splendor of paganism. Ministers became "priests," and pagans became "Christians" by simply being sprinkled with water. This tolerance of an unregenerate membership only made things worse. SPRINKLED PAGANISM is about the best definition for Roman Catholicism...
@kiwichristian2009 Actually keep saying this and we will have more people convert to Roman Catholicism. Some brilliant non-Catholic scholars have converted to Catholicism for a reason... they know how to think logically, while the brainwashed ones remain in theological darkness... unfortunately, none of us can do anything about it...
@kiwichristian2009 Argumentum ad hominem (circumstantial). But it is amusing how people use these kinds of arguments... Believe what you want to believe at this point, sir. This discussion is not going anywhere, so let's make better use of our time, and just live the best we know how. Peace to you, and I hope heaven has more room than our minds permit.
@hapipadi No. You are saying that many "protestants" have joined your organisation, so it must be right. I am saying "so what?" many people have joined similar cults and the like. That doesn't make these cults right or true. Some people are more easily brainwashed than others, that's all that shows.
@kiwichristian2009 Amen friend. I have read all of your comments here and as always, you speak the truth. Roman catholicism is called 'Roman' for a reason. Christ didn't start any 'Roman' church. Roman catholicism is a Christ substitute, another gospel which Satan, through his 'greater than mankind' wisdom has established to take more minds away from the simpliciy in Christ. It really is sad to see so many of our friends out there who reject Christ's work on the cross for us.
@kiwichristian2009 My point for that sattement is... is it possible that these brilliant scholars are actually discovering something that you have not yet seen? Is there something out there about the Church that you are failing to see, because you have convinced yourself that it is not somehow guided by the Holy Spirit, despite all the crazy, sinful, and terrible mistakes of some catholics through the centuries? is it possible that the Spirit bigger than sinners and saints, is STILL working?
@hapipadi "is it possible that these brilliant scholars are actually discovering something that you have not yet seen?" No. It is not. As i have stated before, some people are easily brainwashed. Satan and the jesuits do a fantastic job of this, my friend. YOu may ask "how can you be so sure?". Well, as i have always said, roman catholicism is an enemy of the Word of God and its' teachings and doctrines are diametrically opposed to the Word of God.
While enduring the early persecutions of the Roman government (65-300 A.D.), most of professing Christianity went through a gradual departure from New Testament doctrine concerning church government, worship and practice. Local churches ceased to be autonomous by giving way to the control of "bishops" ruling over hierarchies...
While enduring the early persecutions of the Roman government (65-300 A.D.), most of professing Christianity went through a gradual departure from New Testament doctrine concerning church government, worship and practice. Local churches ceased to be autonomous by giving way to the control of "bishops" ruling over hierarchies....
The early church as described in the NT did the following: shared all things in common, relationships, support missionaries/ministers, teaching & preaching, praying, worshiping, reading of scripture, evangelism, fostering spiritual gifts. No where does the NT dictate fancy buildings, robes, repetitive prayer, a priesthood, Mary worship, sectarianism, or any order of service, etc.. all these are man made traditions added on.
Purgatory is a man-made money-making thing invented by the unbiblical rcc.Heb1:3 "When He had by Himself PURGED OUR SINS.".Rom8:1 "There is therefor now NO CONDEMNATION to them that are in Christ Jesus.". Psalms49:7 "None of them can redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him.".Dont forget Prov10:12 which never mentions purgatory. Acts4:12"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Thank you my friend. If Christ accomplished everything on the cross then why does St. Paul mention that we have to make up for the sufferings that were lacking in Christ's suffering? surely you cannot suffer EVERYTHING the word has done in 3 hours or even 33 years.
Somebody please show me the scriptures "SCRIPTURE BASED"
not what priest or rabbis say....
Nor other books that are not the BIBLE...
Where are those scriptures that support this idea of purgatory.Either from the new testament....don't just say new testament.
Or from the first five books of the bible, which comprise the Torah.
Luke 16:19-31, clearly states that there is a hell not purgatory, and without a chance to make up for sins, that's on earth, then we face our consequences.
@IntelligentCreature There are no scriptures that support purgatory, or popes, or a modern, sacrificial priesthood, nor the mass, nuns, extreme unction, mary worship, the rosary, inquisition, hiding known child rapists for 40 years, confessionals, mary remaining a virgin, mary being born sinless, mary being assumed into heaven, indulgences, penance, prayers to dead people, infant baptism, human tradition being equal to scripture, idolatry, etc. ON the contrary, scripture rebukes each of these.
@kiwichristian2009 Anti-Christian! WE are the Christian, my friend. And Jesus promised that He will be with us until the end of time. The idea of "separation" is a human-made concept... Jesus has always prayed for unity...
@hapipadi Yes, the roman catholic organisation is diametrically opposed to the Word of God. They DENY Jesus died ONCE for ALL.They DENY Jesus is our ONLY salvation. They DENY Jesus did away with the needs for priests. They DENY God forgives us of ALL sin. They DENY only God can forgive sins against God.They DENY we must worship God and God alone. They DENY God when He says "For ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God"
@kiwichristian2009 Amen friend! Roman Catholicism is a false belief system. You either believe what the Vatican says or what God's Word says. The two don't mix. The two are in direct contradiction of each other.
@kiwichristian2009 Burned at the stake, stretching racks, Iron Maiden, crushed skulls, crushed wrists and bones, hangings, etc. etc. Reminds me of Revelation 17:6 "And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus......."
@johnthreesixteen316 You got it. There is no denying the FACT that the rcc is responsible for the torture and murder of millions. What happened to love thy enemy?
@hapipadi Are you saying that your organisation did not torture and murder people who disagreed with it or that dared to own a Bible in English? Yes or no?
@johnthreesixteen316 Also, what was the catholic organisation afraid of that they would kill anyone who opposed them? DIdn't they dig up the bones of John Wyclif and burn them? Why?
@johnthreesixteen316 This is too complicated to talk about even by all of us... get a time machine and go back there, maybe you can tell those people to think better than their own time... maybe then, not too many Catholics have also not been burned and fed to the lions...
When I die, if I have enough people praying and doing penance on my behalf, I could reject Christ's work on the cross and come out of purgatory and go right to Heaven because those people's works would nullify my rejection of Christ.
@hapipadi There isn't any purgatory. This is catholic doctrine which rejects Christ. It is a false gospel. You need to accept what Christ did on the cross for you. Get down on your knees and ask for His forgiveness.
ignorance does not help. i know what i believe, but I don't think you know what purgatory really is. So... are you just making a judgment based on hearsay or misunderstanding? Too bad... ignorance is also extremely dangerous.
@hapipadi An ex-nun once said the only purgatory that exists is the priests' pockets. If purgatory is true then the 'catholic' Christ didn't accomplish anything on the cross, wasted his time and died for nothing. The 'catholic' Christ should have hired a pro instead of doing the job himself. The Christ of Christianity is the Pro. He got the job on the cross done right the first time. And.....He did it for free!
@hapipadi "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past." (Romans 3:24-25)
@hapipadi Purgatory is a man-made money-making thing invented by the unbiblical rcc.Heb1:3 "When He had by Himself PURGED OUR SINS.".Rom8:1 "There is therefor now NO CONDEMNATION to them that are in Christ Jesus.". Psalms49:7 "None of them can redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him.".Dont forget Prov10:12 which never mentions purgatory. Acts4:12"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
@johnthreesixteen316 You mean you have a blessed assurance of salvation?! Wish our catholics friends knew where they were going when they die. The main tract i hand out each saturday is "Where will you spend eternity?".
@johnthreesixteen316 Also, who decides what are "good" works and "good" penance? Where in the Bible does Christ talk about penance? Also, the famous catholic, Hitler i am sure thought HE was doing "good" works, carrying on what the catholic organisation started. the catholic organisation ( i dont even call them a "church" anymore ) preached anti-semitism as a doctrine until 1964!
Interesting... i was just about to tell you to do the same! Wow... if you can tell me now that you are perfectly united with God, I will put you in my list of the most amazing people in the world. :) In case you didn't know, the BIble was compiled by the Catholic Church. Hmmm...
@hapipadi Rubbish. It cannot be proven that the Catholic Church is solely responsible for the gathering and selection of the New Testament books. In fact, it can be shown that the New Testament books were gathered into one volume and were in circulation long before the Catholic Church claims to have taken its action in 390 at the council of Hippo.
@hapipadi If the Bible is a Catholic book, why does it nowhere mention the Catholic Church? Why is there no mention of a pope, a cardinal, an archbishop, a parish priest, a nun, or a member of any other Catholic order? If the Bible is a Catholic book, why is auricular confession, indulgences, prayers to the saints, adoration of Mary, veneration of relics and images, and many other rites and ceremonies of the Catholic Church, left out of it?
@kiwichristian2009 Sorry, but there's a lot of ignorance in your responses, and all i can tell you is to go ahead and study what the Catholic Church really is, and what is its history... try reading it from within (how the Catholic Church understands itself), not from what people from the outside are saying about. I cannot respond to all the perceptions you have about the Church... do your own homework. Peace to you.
@hapipadi My friend. It is not a case of "how the catholic church understands itself". OF COURSE a sinful anti-christian organisation is not going to believe it is sinful and anti-christian! To confirm this, you need to look at independent/historical and biblical proofs. When we look at the true history of the catholic "church" and what they teach and say about themselves, compare that to the Word of God, we see clearly that it is an anti-Christian organisation.
@hapipadi VERSIONS of the NT in other languages available early in Christianity:
Peshitta Version AD 150 The Italic Bible AD 157 The Waldensian AD 120 & onwards Gallic Bible (Southern France) AD177 Gothic Bible AD 330-350 Old Syriac Bible AD 400 Armenian Bible AD 400 (There are 1244 copies of this version still in existence.) Palestinian Syriac AD 450
@hapipadi It is not a question of being perfect and not sinning. The difference is that Christ has washed us white as snow and will remember our sins no more. This is the blessed assurance of salvation that He gives us that is mentioned in the Bible.
And if you just take a fast train to Heaven by calling on the Name of Jesus, why don't more people not want to become 'Christian' Protestants (an oxymoron)? Even they know instinctively that salvation costs us. It doesn't come cheap. Not to Christ, not to us. That's because of a little thing called sanctification which Protestants happily dispense with.
If Christ accomplished everything on the cross then why does St. Paul mention that we have to make up for the sufferings that were lacking in Christ's suffering? surely you cannot suffer EVERYTHING the word has done in 3 hours or even 33 years.
@hapipadi Romans 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Ohhh.. and this distinction you are making between the "Catholic' Christ and the "Christian" Christ just shows that you don't know what the Catholic Church is... The Catholic Church is The Christian Church. Check your history, my friend. The Catholic Christ is the one true Christian Christ!
@hapipadi There are so many verses in scripture that contradict RCC theology Rom 4:5 utterly condemns the System of salvation by masses penance priests etc, bible teaches that salvation is gift of God not of works & this gift is freely given by God to those who trust in the merits of Christ's finished work on Calvary, the RCC SYSTEM is a demonic counterfeit to keep the lost RCs on the broad road to hell
question. When Jesus met Mary at the tomb after he had arose he said do not touch me for I have not yet ascended unto the Father. SO how can he be in paradise the day he is on the cross with the other person who said I tell you, today you shall be with me in paradise? He did not ascend unto heaven until AFTER he arose 3 days later.
It was looking at the two testaments together that helped me. Most Protestants make the same mistake. Not by design but what they are taught and thus do not put it together. Then Protestants have a lighter Bible as well:)
Yup, they do. They do not believe in our deutero-canonicals. It's all about what they are taught... that's why it is too bad that many of them are still being given really just a portion of the teachings... and if you ask me, they have oversimplified the idea of salvation.
@hapipadi Jerome rejected the Deuterocanonical books when he was translating the Bible into Latin circa 450 CE, (see the Vulgate). This was because no Hebrew version of these texts could be found, even though they were present in the Greek Old Testament (the Septuagint). However, they eventually were accepted by the Church, and most of them remained part of the Bible. Protestants rejected these books during the Reformation as lacking divine authority.
@hapipadi " they have oversimplified the idea of salvation." and you my friend have over-complicated it. Then again, how else can the rcc be as rich as it is without enslaving its' followers into thinking their works can save them. I beleive one year in the month of November, masses ( unbiblical ) in the USA alone generated 21 MILLION dollars for the rcc!
@kiwichristian2009 "rich as it is..." is such an ignorant statement... there is no bigger mission in the world that reaches out to the poor and the needy than the catholic Church... but you will not hear much about it, for obvious reasons.
Random331 seems to be trying to seek the truth. However, he seems to have a lack of tact. I am a Protestant Christian, so I share a similar belief in what Catholics would call "sola scriptura". I think that Random331 needs to examine Matthew 5, or the myriad of other mentions in our Bible to love.
Random 331 has an obvious bias. The background of his page likens Pope Benedict XVI to an antichrist. 1 John and 2 John quickly tell us that Random331 is wrong.
Thanks for this clarification, 9ptbuck. I am fraid there is enough black propaganda that existed against the Catholic Church. I have studied the documents of anti-catholicism in America that dates back to the first wave of Catholic immigrants in this country, so I know where some of these things are coming from. I think personally it is sad because there is a lot of anger and misconception about the Catholic Church out there... If you ask me, I think there are people who are actually victims
@sunnycastillo There is a difference between "black propaganda" and historical truth. The Word of God and history condemns the roman catholic organisation as antichrist, anti-Christian and un-biblical.
of anti-catholic brainwashing that started back in the beginnings of Protestantism. A non-catholic author by the name of Philip Jenkins, quoting John Higham, says that anti-Catholic bigotry is "the most luxuriant, tenacious tradition of paranoiac agitation in American history".
I do think that "sola scriptura" is a reactionary doctrine to the Catholic Tradition, primarily to undermine the teaching authority of the Church and the Traditions from which Scriptures originated. But that's me. :P
Thank you for taking the time to answer this question. I am a Protestant and I enjoyed hearing the apologetic on purgatory.
It seems that your premise was that we need to be purged of our sins in order to enter into the presence of God the Father. This seems intuitive. However, what is the apologetic that says that Christs sacrifice on the cross was not already enough? How do we know that us accepting Christ does not already take care of that need?
Hi Devin! Christ's work on the cross was perfect for our redemption, and therefore making salvation possible for us all. But he commissioned his apostles to forgive sins because He knew that there will be sin and misuse of human freedom even after his resurrection. The concept of purgatory and the sacraments of healing/reconciliation are all about Christ's continuing sanctification of His people. It is not opposed to Christ's redemptive work, but actually is essentially anchored upon it.
And thank you for your graciousness. I can sense a certain openness in you.
In continuation, I guess James asked the right question when he wrote: "What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?" James 2:14
"Accepting Christ" as an idea in faith needs to be always coupled with the way we live our lives. Christians are not perfect; not even the apostles were... and so Christ has given us through the Church all these other means to be purified by His love. Christ's work continues in us now...
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, 10 but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)
Thank you for your timely response. I found it to be quite intriguing. I also appreciate your warm compliment to my openness. Glory be to God, not me. I feel that there is only one Truth and that no one Christian denomination has Truth in its entirety. Therefore, I must seek it with my life.
I am still confused on how Ephesians 2:8-9 relate to purgatory. Possibly they don't, but on a superficial reading they seem to contradict the teaching of purgatory.
9ptbuck, thanks for your response. There is indeed only One Truth - Jesus, who is the Truth. Turth then is not a set of correct answers to questions of belief but ultimately a Divine Person - and His Name is Jesus.
We, Catholics, however do believe that the Divine Person Jesus Christ, remains in His Mystical Body, the Church. There are enough Pauline and Gospel passages to put this Catholic belief to light.
Jesus, the Truth, promised that he will remain with His Church until the end of time, and everytime Catholics celebrate the eucharist, Christ again, in a profoundly unique way, fulfills His promise.
I find that the Catholic teachings on these fundamental theological ideas are very consistent once you get the whole. It takes a while for some to understand the big picture of Catholic Theology. Eph 2:8-9 talks more about faith, but Jesus Himself does talk about good works that go with faith.
hence, it is never really faith without good work, or good work without faith. Catholics believe that faith that is not lived out is not true salvation. The problem might be in isolating particular "saved through faith" passages from Paul without seeing the whole picture of what he preached, we might get confused to believe that all we have to do is say "I believe that jesus is my personal Lord and Savior," and then all is heaven. Common sense will tell us that's not real, but the Bible too.
@9ptbuck Matt. 23:9 "And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." Ephes. proves that there is nothing we can do to "earn" our salvation. You do not "earn" a gift. It is given freely to whoever wants it.
@kiwichristian2009 I pray that God will enlighten us all some day... I think you have extremely misunderstood the Catholic Church because of the anti-Catholic bigotry that was/is prevalent in this country... All I know is that Jesus promised to be with His Church until the end of time... guided by His Spirit. That Church is the Catholic Church.
@hapipadi Well, my friend. 1) I am not in your country. 2) Most of my church used to be catholics, and i have read history and i read the ccc, so i do have an idea on the rcc. Absolutely, Jesus is with His church, but that church is NOT the rcc, which was invented by your first pope, Emperor Constantine who blended his paganism ( hence the candles, incense, idols, etc. ) with Christianity around 313 A.D.
@kiwichristian2009 Well, 1) I am in the USA. Where are you? 2) A lot of Catholics sadly do not know what they believe in, 3) I don't know what history you're reading, but the Edict of MIlan was NOT the beginning of the Catholic Church, but only the beginning of the end of persecution of Christians then 4) A good number of professors and theologians have converted to the Catholic Church for a reason; research on them. 5) We'll just see when the Kingdom comes, I guess. i hope to see you there.
@hapipadi 1) ok 2) New Zealand 3) It was emporer Constantine that first proclaimed himself Pointius Maximus, a title STILL used by popes today. That is when catholicism first started as we see/know it today. There is not even any evidence for the Papacy from Peter himself. 4) That does not make the rcc "true". Many people believe beleive in evolution, even your old pope, but that doesn't mean it is true. 5) I'll be there alright. I have a blessed assurance of salvation.
@9ptbuck we are PURGED OF OUR SINS ( not some, ALL ) by the blood of Jesus Christ. Heb1:3,Rom8:1 and John5:24. Remember "there is no more condemnation when Jesus passed over our sins and paid the ultimate penalty for us." Why didnt the apostles ever discuss purgatory? 2Cor5:8There is no mention of pur. here. In Luke16:19-31, Jesus reveals there is a great gulf between hell and paradise that ...
@9ptbuck people cannot pass from one to the other. An ex-nun said the only purgatory that exists is the priests' pockets.
Catholic church doesn't separate the NT and OT?? You are making this up.
Jesus "purged" our sins by his blood (Heb 1:3, 2 Pt 1:9) and fire CANNOT (Heb 9:22) - hence no "purgatory".
The Council of Trent "DECREE CONCERNING THE EDITION, AND THE USE, OF THE SACRED BOOKS" regulates laity attempts to give instruction regarding Catholic doctrines. Has the local diocesan Censor Librorum approved this video with a nihil obstat and imprimatur? Are you authorized to publish under a pseudonym?
RANDOM331: Jesus "purged" our sins by his blood (Heb 1:3, 2 Pt 1:9) and fire CANNOT (Heb 9:22) - hence no "purgatory"
HAPIPADI: Hello! I think this thing you wrote is misleading. I agree with the first part that Jesus "purged" our sins by his blood, but Heb 9:22 does not say anything about "fire CANNOT". You need to be clear about the concept of justification and sanctification... "Jesus purged our sins" is justification, but not sanctification, which is our side of the story.
Our "sanctification" is Jesus = "But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:" 1 Cor 1:30 and the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 1:2, 2 Thess 2:13) - again, not fire.
I agree completely! Because Christ is in us, ultimately, it is God's grace in Jesus Christ that sanctifies us, but there is a difference between righteousness/justification and sanctification. Justification is all of Christ's work, even though we were not worthy of it, but sanctification is where we have to COOPERATE with the work of Christ. Sanctification is how the human being meets God halfway in the plan of salvation, through our good work.
Salvation is all of Christ - and only his BLOOD can purge sins - thus purgatory is a meaningless doctrine that has no support in scripture - no matter how much fire and suffering - those do not purge any sins in God's sight. Please look up Heb 1:3, Heb 9:22, & 2 Pt 1:9. We should live holy lives for the sake of our temporal well-being and for eternal rewards, but this has nothing to do with going to heaven or not. Jesus did it all when he said, "It is finished" John 19:30.
"Purgatory" is supposedly to pay for sins that Jesus missed - which is nonsense. Jesus paid it all. These are not opinions about what "I think" or "you think" - this is Bible doctrine anyone can read.
"For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:" Phil 3:20
"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." 1 Jn 3:2
You can keep citing all the text and i will still be in a agreement and disagreement with you... Agreement because all of the things you cited are not contrary to what I believe fundamentally.
The doctrine of purgatory does not negate the perfect redemptive work of Christ on the cross... in fact, it supports it.
RANDOM 331: Catholic church doesn't separate the NT and OT?? You are making this up.
HAPIPADI: No, I am not making this up. I ask you to not lift my words out of context. Catholics do not separate the New Testament as the sole basis of doctrine. That's what I was telling Bingolly, in response to his request to provide the basis of purgatory only from the New Testament. I thought that was clear enough in the video.
RANDOM331: The Council of Trent "DECREE CONCERNING THE EDITION, AND THE USE, OF THE SACRED BOOKS" regulates laity attempts to give instruction regarding Catholic doctrines.
HAPIPADI: Impressive! But the Catholic Church would not classify me right now as "laity." Blessings to you!
It is sort of like a deserter who is AWOL from the Army telling somebody else he needs to sign up - you either are following the "infallible teaching church" & its rules or you are not. Why should I think to follow Rome if you won't?
My bishop knows of my youtube videos, and called me once about it. He has not told me to stop. It is by the office of the bishop that I have been commissioned to "Believe what you read, preach what you believe, practice what you preach." I'd be glad to look for a different ministry if he told me to stop.
I love our Lord Jesus Christ, and His Church.
BTW, excellent metaphor with the AWOL thingy. Haha. Enjoy your summer!
i love the way you ended this video, with beautiful music, pictures, and words. I like how you can discuss these sort of matters with a smile. Its fun to be goofy..like that old saying "Dont take like too seriously, you wont make it out alive.." lol. I suppose if we all took it too serious and never smiled, we'd be stuck in purgatory then ...:)
I'm glad Bingolly1 brought up the rule that you have to make one video a week. I know that is difficult so please keep them coming whenever you can. This one has been long overdue. You have such a beautiful gift with your singing and your teaching. (Dancing too?) Thanks for the video. Hapipadi should have a fan club also. :-)
thanks for all your encouragements!!! i am humbled by your kind words. one of my biggest sorrows is that there always seems to be not enough time for all the things i want to do. i was hoping to finish my second book this year, as well, but i am afraid time will run out on me.
Thank you Father Hapi! :D Very nice video, I couldn't even imagine going before the Lord un-purified, but thats me. I appreciate the holistic teachings when studying the bible - taking into account the bigger picture always gives me a greater understanding. I think it is very unifying to remember our Jewish roots and know how the early church acted from both the Old and the New Testaments. May God bless you and peace be with you always.
thank you also. i just realized that the song was cut shorter in the end... youtube probably thought i was going on and on too much. hahaha. god bless you!!

People, don't be deceived by those who preach the unbiblical man-made doctrine of purgatory. Christ went to the cross for all of your sins so you don't have to be punished. 1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given.
johnthreesixteen316 1 year ago
@johnthreesixteen316 Amen. If the rcc is Christs' true church, why has all the unbiblical traditions and teachings been added on by man at different times in history?
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
Catholics defend purg. by quoting the uninspired 2Mac12:40-46 where a "sin offering" is offered for dead soldiers who had committed the sin of idolatry. This not only contradicts the Bible, but also catholic teaching, because idolatry is a "mortal sin" that would confine a person to hell. An ex-nun said the only purgatory that exists is the priests' pockets and that popery is of satan. I agree with this 100%.
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago 6
@kiwichristian2009 Satan will come up with any lie to try and take Christ down from the cross.
johnthreesixteen316 1 year ago
Listen, we are PURGED OF OUR SINS ( not some, ALL ) by the blood of Jesus Christ. Heb1:3,Rom8:1 and John5:24. Remember "there is no more condemnation when Jesus passed over our sins and paid the ultimate penalty for us." Why didnt the apostles ever discuss purgatory? 2Cor5:8There is no mention of pur. here.

@kiwichristian2009 Amen friend! Hopefully the biblical truth you speak will reach the heart of someone out there.
johnthreesixteen316 1 year ago
@johnthreesixteen316 catholics try to "interpret" the Bible where no "interpretation" is needed.
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
"Now there is no need to pray for the dead who are in Heaven, for they are in no need; nor again for those who are in Hell, because they cannot be loosed from sins. Therefore after this life, there are some not yet loosed from sins, who can be loosed there from; and the like have charity, without which sins cannot be loosed, for 'charity covereth all sins' [Prov. 10:12].

@hapipadi Hello friend. 'Heaven' gave us His Word. Don't be fooled by Roman Catholicism, the great Christ substitute.

@hapipadi If we let Heaven decide someday, then it will be too late for those who have not accepted Christ's one time sacrifice for sin.
johnthreesixteen316 11 months ago
If you believe in purgatory you have taken Christ down from the cross and told Him not to bother because you don't need His sacrifice.
johnthreesixteen316 1 year ago
@johnthreesixteen316 Oh I need His sacrifice all the way to the end... justification thru his death is not the same as salvation.
hapipadi 1 year ago
@hapipadi Can you explain your interpretation of the difference of justification and salvation, please?
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
@hapipadi If you are justified by His blood, you have salvation friend. Nice and simple. No need for confessionals, sacraments, the eucharist, rosaries, saints and apparitions pretending to be Mary or any other man-made deceptions. Christ said "it is finished".
johnthreesixteen316 1 year ago
Man-made traditions vs God's Word......hmmmmm. Honest and sincere people who seek God's truth will use the Word of God to judge and measure the words and doctrines of the Roman Catholic church.
johnthreesixteen316 1 year ago
The Roman Emperor Constantine established himself as the head of the church around 313 A.D., which made this new "Christianity" the official religion of the Roman Empire. The first actual Pope in Rome was probably Leo I (440-461 A.D.), although some claim that Gregory I was the first (590-604 A.D.). This ungodly system eventually ushered in the darkest period of history known to man, properly known as the "Dark Ages" (500-1500 A.D.).
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago 2
Throughout all of this, however, there remained individual groups of true Christians, such as the Waldensens and the Anabaptists who would not conform to the Roman system....
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
@kiwichristian2009 such twisted history... who taught you this? obviously the anti-Catholics. First of all, Constantine did not even become a Catholic until close to his death... Break the continuity of the Church and this is what you get.. some weird version created by modern deconstructionists.
hapipadi 1 year ago
@hapipadi The true church of Jesus Christ is a relationship, not a membership. It isn’t any particular protestant denomination or Roman catholic. It doesn't have a roof or an address. We are the Body of Christ, past, present and future from all around the world who have accepted Christ’s work on the cross for our sins 2000 years ago, once and for all. Our names have been written in the Book of Life from the beginning. 1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given.

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."Col 1:18 "And He (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church..." 1 Cor 12:27 "Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually."

@kiwichristian2009 Hello friend. That is true. The Roman Catholic church has its own agenda and it isn't God's will.
johnthreesixteen316 1 year ago
The simple form of worship from the heart was replaced with the rituals and splendor of paganism. Ministers became "priests," and pagans became "Christians" by simply being sprinkled with water. This tolerance of an unregenerate membership only made things worse. SPRINKLED PAGANISM is about the best definition for Roman Catholicism...
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
@kiwichristian2009 Actually keep saying this and we will have more people convert to Roman Catholicism. Some brilliant non-Catholic scholars have converted to Catholicism for a reason... they know how to think logically, while the brainwashed ones remain in theological darkness... unfortunately, none of us can do anything about it...

hapipadi 1 year ago
@hapipadi No. You are saying that many "protestants" have joined your organisation, so it must be right. I am saying "so what?" many people have joined similar cults and the like. That doesn't make these cults right or true. Some people are more easily brainwashed than others, that's all that shows.
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
@kiwichristian2009 Amen friend. I have read all of your comments here and as always, you speak the truth. Roman catholicism is called 'Roman' for a reason. Christ didn't start any 'Roman' church. Roman catholicism is a Christ substitute, another gospel which Satan, through his 'greater than mankind' wisdom has established to take more minds away from the simpliciy in Christ. It really is sad to see so many of our friends out there who reject Christ's work on the cross for us.
johnthreesixteen316 1 year ago
@johnthreesixteen316 Well, God only wrote ONE truth. It is a shame our catholic friends refuse to believe Him.
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
@kiwichristian2009 My point for that sattement is... is it possible that these brilliant scholars are actually discovering something that you have not yet seen? Is there something out there about the Church that you are failing to see, because you have convinced yourself that it is not somehow guided by the Holy Spirit, despite all the crazy, sinful, and terrible mistakes of some catholics through the centuries? is it possible that the Spirit bigger than sinners and saints, is STILL working?
hapipadi 1 year ago
@hapipadi "is it possible that these brilliant scholars are actually discovering something that you have not yet seen?" No. It is not. As i have stated before, some people are easily brainwashed. Satan and the jesuits do a fantastic job of this, my friend. YOu may ask "how can you be so sure?". Well, as i have always said, roman catholicism is an enemy of the Word of God and its' teachings and doctrines are diametrically opposed to the Word of God.

IntelligentCreature 1 year ago
@IntelligentCreature There are no scriptures that support purgatory, or popes, or a modern, sacrificial priesthood, nor the mass, nuns, extreme unction, mary worship, the rosary, inquisition, hiding known child rapists for 40 years, confessionals, mary remaining a virgin, mary being born sinless, mary being assumed into heaven, indulgences, penance, prayers to dead people, infant baptism, human tradition being equal to scripture, idolatry, etc. ON the contrary, scripture rebukes each of these.

hapipadi 1 year ago
@hapipadi Rubbish. It cannot be proven that the Catholic Church is solely responsible for the gathering and selection of the New Testament books. In fact, it can be shown that the New Testament books were gathered into one volume and were in circulation long before the Catholic Church claims to have taken its action in 390 at the council of Hippo.
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
@hapipadi If the Bible is a Catholic book, why does it nowhere mention the Catholic Church? Why is there no mention of a pope, a cardinal, an archbishop, a parish priest, a nun, or a member of any other Catholic order? If the Bible is a Catholic book, why is auricular confession, indulgences, prayers to the saints, adoration of Mary, veneration of relics and images, and many other rites and ceremonies of the Catholic Church, left out of it?
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
@kiwichristian2009 Sorry, but there's a lot of ignorance in your responses, and all i can tell you is to go ahead and study what the Catholic Church really is, and what is its history... try reading it from within (how the Catholic Church understands itself), not from what people from the outside are saying about. I cannot respond to all the perceptions you have about the Church... do your own homework. Peace to you.
hapipadi 1 year ago
@hapipadi My friend. It is not a case of "how the catholic church understands itself". OF COURSE a sinful anti-christian organisation is not going to believe it is sinful and anti-christian! To confirm this, you need to look at independent/historical and biblical proofs. When we look at the true history of the catholic "church" and what they teach and say about themselves, compare that to the Word of God, we see clearly that it is an anti-Christian organisation.

It was looking at the two testaments together that helped me. Most Protestants make the same mistake. Not by design but what they are taught and thus do not put it together. Then Protestants have a lighter Bible as well:)
Bingolly1 3 years ago
Yup, they do. They do not believe in our deutero-canonicals. It's all about what they are taught... that's why it is too bad that many of them are still being given really just a portion of the teachings... and if you ask me, they have oversimplified the idea of salvation.
hapipadi 3 years ago
@hapipadi Jerome rejected the Deuterocanonical books when he was translating the Bible into Latin circa 450 CE, (see the Vulgate). This was because no Hebrew version of these texts could be found, even though they were present in the Greek Old Testament (the Septuagint). However, they eventually were accepted by the Church, and most of them remained part of the Bible. Protestants rejected these books during the Reformation as lacking divine authority.

I shall pray for you, Random331.

If you ask me, I think there are people who are actually victims
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
@sunnycastillo There is a difference between "black propaganda" and historical truth. The Word of God and history condemns the roman catholic organisation as antichrist, anti-Christian and un-biblical.
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
of anti-catholic brainwashing that started back in the beginnings of Protestantism.
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
Father,
Thank you for taking the time to answer this question.
God Bless!
9ptbuck 3 years ago
It is not opposed to Christ's redemptive work, but actually is essentially anchored upon it.
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
And thank you for your graciousness. I can sense a certain openness in you.
In continuation, I guess James asked the right question when he wrote: "What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?" James 2:14
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
"Accepting Christ" as an idea in faith needs to be always coupled with the way we live our lives. Christians are not perfect; not even the apostles were... and so Christ has given us through the Church all these other means to be purified by His love. Christ's work continues in us now...
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, 10 but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
Father,
Thank you for your timely response.
God Bless!
9ptbuck 3 years ago
9ptbuck, thanks for your response. There is indeed only One Truth - Jesus, who is the Truth. Turth then is not a set of correct answers to questions of belief but ultimately a Divine Person - and His Name is Jesus.
We, Catholics, however do believe that the Divine Person Jesus Christ, remains in His Mystical Body, the Church. There are enough Pauline and Gospel passages to put this Catholic belief to light.
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
Jesus, the Truth, promised that he will remain with His Church until the end of time, and everytime Catholics celebrate the eucharist, Christ again, in a profoundly unique way, fulfills His promise.
I find that the Catholic teachings on these fundamental theological ideas are very consistent once you get the whole. It takes a while for some to understand the big picture of Catholic Theology. Eph 2:8-9 talks more about faith, but Jesus Himself does talk about good works that go with faith.
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
hence, it is never really faith without good work, or good work without faith. Common sense will tell us that's not real, but the Bible too.
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
@9ptbuck Matt. 23:9 "And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." Ephes. proves that there is nothing we can do to "earn" our salvation. You do not "earn" a gift. It is given freely to whoever wants it.
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
@kiwichristian2009 I pray that God will enlighten us all some day... I think you have extremely misunderstood the Catholic Church because of the anti-Catholic bigotry that was/is prevalent in this country... All I know is that Jesus promised to be with His Church until the end of time... guided by His Spirit. That Church is the Catholic Church.
hapipadi 1 year ago
@hapipadi Well, my friend. 1) I am not in your country. 2) Most of my church used to be catholics, and i have read history and i read the ccc, so i do have an idea on the rcc. Absolutely, Jesus is with His church, but that church is NOT the rcc, which was invented by your first pope, Emperor Constantine who blended his paganism ( hence the candles, incense, idols, etc. ) with Christianity around 313 A.D.
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
@kiwichristian2009 Well, 1) I am in the USA. Where are you? 2) A lot of Catholics sadly do not know what they believe in, 3) I don't know what history you're reading, but the Edict of MIlan was NOT the beginning of the Catholic Church, but only the beginning of the end of persecution of Christians then 4) A good number of professors and theologians have converted to the Catholic Church for a reason; research on them. 5) We'll just see when the Kingdom comes, I guess. i hope to see you there.
hapipadi 1 year ago

2Cor5:8There is no mention of pur. here. In Luke16:19-31, Jesus reveals there is a great gulf between hell and paradise that ...
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago
@9ptbuck people cannot pass from one to the other. An ex-nun said the only purgatory that exists is the priests' pockets.
kiwichristian2009 1 year ago

Peace!
hapipadi 3 years ago
Our "sanctification" is Jesus = "But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:" 1 Cor 1:30 and the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 1:2, 2 Thess 2:13) - again, not fire.
random331 3 years ago
I agree completely! Because Christ is in us, ultimately, it is God's grace in Jesus Christ that sanctifies us, but there is a difference between righteousness/justification and sanctification. Justification is all of Christ's work, even though we were not worthy of it, but sanctification is where we have to COOPERATE with the work of Christ. Sanctification is how the human being meets God halfway in the plan of salvation, through our good work.
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
Salvation is all of Christ - and only his BLOOD can purge sins - thus purgatory is a meaningless doctrine that has no support in scripture - no matter how much fire and suffering - those do not purge any sins in God's sight. Please look up Heb 1:3, Heb 9:22, & 2 Pt 1:9. We should live holy lives for the sake of our temporal well-being and for eternal rewards, but this has nothing to do with going to heaven or not. Jesus did it all when he said, "It is finished" John 19:30.
random331 3 years ago
Oh, don't take the "fire" thing too literally. i don't think it is fire as we know it now... but it will be purging alright...
When Jesus said it is finished, he has completed his redemptive work on earth...
So, I guess i can also ask you: What has anything to do with going to heaven or not? Who will get to heaven?
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
"Purgatory" is supposedly to pay for sins that Jesus missed - which is nonsense. Jesus paid it all. These are not opinions about what "I think" or "you think" - this is Bible doctrine anyone can read.
"For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:" Phil 3:20
"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." 1 Jn 3:2
random331 3 years ago
You can keep citing all the text and i will still be in a agreement and disagreement with you... Agreement because all of the things you cited are not contrary to what I believe fundamentally.
The doctrine of purgatory does not negate the perfect redemptive work of Christ on the cross... in fact, it supports it.
sunnycastillo 3 years ago
RANDOM 331: Catholic church doesn't separate the NT and OT?? You are making this up.
HAPIPADI: No, I am not making this up. I ask you to not lift my words out of context. Catholics do not separate the New Testament as the sole basis of doctrine. That's what I was telling Bingolly, in response to his request to provide the basis of purgatory only from the New Testament. I thought that was clear enough in the video.
hapipadi 3 years ago
RANDOM331: The Council of Trent "DECREE CONCERNING THE EDITION, AND THE USE, OF THE SACRED BOOKS" regulates laity attempts to give instruction regarding Catholic doctrines.
HAPIPADI: Impressive! But the Catholic Church would not classify me right now as "laity." Blessings to you!
hapipadi 3 years ago
You are giving teachings on faith and morals, I'm simply asking "Do you have an imprimatur for these videos?" - and why not?
See Cannon Laws - CIC 216, CIC 823, CIC 824, CIC 827, CIC 775, CIC 780, CIC 830, CIC 831,
& CIC 832 - These apply to you also.
