As much as I want more female voice to be heard, I don't believe in gender-specific festivals. They just perpetuate gender discrimination.

i see where you're coming from because I'm looking at it like... man, i wanna be involved but it's only for black women (even though she says everyone can come). And you can tell it's only for black women because they kind of repeat it over and over so... in this case i'm kinda torn because i wouldn't mind attending, or even going to perform for that matter, but i would kind of feel out-of-place due to being a black man (not a woman).

As a man, I disagree. Plenty of men only spaces exist because of the unequal wealth & power between women & men. They aren't identified as such, but men find lots of ways to keep women out. If & when the genders are equal, it may be worth returning to this argument but with the world as it is, any space for women to create & support each other has to be a good thing.
