Howard Hughes put an end to Peters career. He saw her in a movie and hounded her until she married him. Their relationship was mostly by phone. She had a choice of her career or being the wife of one of the richest men in the world without having him around much. Hmmm...which one to choose? Rich or acting, acting or rich....hmmmm? Rich won.
@mvies77 You're right. Hughes also followed Ava Gardner all the way to Spain. He was a mental freak, who spent his waning years playing with toy trains. He brought Gardner a try of jewelry from Tiffany's.. she said he was afraid of luggage and kept his clothes in paper boxes. She also said she could " smell him before he even entered the room. He didn't want to take a bath...so..what good is money?
I feel sorry for Jean Peters in this movie men really dogged women out back in those days, they had a license to beat the crap out of women and it was acceptable with the courts male chavanism at it's finest.
A big story, one of the best pictures of Richard Widmark; the greatest actor of the world ... in every scene, in every second he is acting... his reactions are dynamit and intransigent... he knows what he is doing... his face and his body tells storys 6:20-7:10 ... and his voice distinctive...

Waterboarding makes the copper seem unrealistic today...A really enjoyable film all the same.

Jean Peters should have been a big star. And she shouldn't have quit acting so early.
