If you have the money and an assistant. Get a wireless video and follow foucus set up. EXPENSIVE. But if your going to do movies as a pro you'll need it.
I want everyone to understand, when I shot this video almost 3 years ago, it was as soon as I received my glidecam. First tryout right out the box. The video compared to what I achieve with it now is a huge difference. You can shoot with the XHA1 alone with no problem. Balancing is just a matter of trial and error until you find a sweet spot. Buy arm brace for $150 and you are good to go. I use mine without an arm brace and it works great. I use a varizoom vest for $700 when I want it on longer
Something about a baby walking out to the street disturbes me. Anyways..I was looking for a system, but wasn't sure if I wanted to dish out the 789.00 for the merlin or save some cash and go with the glidecam.
Go with the Glidecam! I owned a Steadicam Jr. back in the 90s and sold it off. I am gonna be ordering the 2000pro. It's all about how your shots look, not what brand the gear is. All the cameras now have the fold out monitors anyway. Practice is all it takes to get good! Peace, Robert
Now you're talking reasonable product. The Steadicam by Merlin is magical but the real magic is how $800 can disappear. Now you see it , now you don't. Poof! This is a well- priced item that works on the same principals of inertia that Newton would have been proud of. The Steadicam however she be called the Steadi-Sham. $75 worth of materials marked up 800%. Ahhh, only in America. Buy this product for $249. and if you're feeling nice donate $100 to a food bank, and you're still saving $450!
I found the best balance to be when the washers are close to the center pole as possible. The sliding plate off center to the left because of the xha1 right side heaviness, and post almost extended all the way. I use about 4 washers each side. Make sure u have a tape, large battery loaded, and the LCD screen flipped out when balancing.
I'll check... but ... on my side I film weddings that are 15h and more... from the morning to the end of reception. I have a light on the top of my cam.
You can probably need a brace for your arm... that's about 150$ and it's not so big.
You can balnce this thing with a canon wide angle adapter. the one that is the original WD-h72. this adapter is very front heavy. I can balance it, but when i hold it my hands, my arm shakes. You may have a smaller, lighter wide angle lens and that will work better, but i use my arm and vest with this thing, because it is now just to heavy. I shot basketball games for 9 hours straight all day with the glidecam 2000 pro. check it out at search "hesmanpro"
I am sorry for not responding sooner to questions, but I will say it is very difficult to balance the XHA1. I have shot many more videos since this first test, and have finally achieved good balance with great results. I will be posting better videos of glidecam soon. The XhA1 in a basic setup with largest battery will be just fine, however if you add attachments like a wide angle lens you will need a glidecam 4000 but then the rig will be too heavy to hold, will then need a body vest.
I also have the canon xh a1 and am attempting to balance it with the glidecam 2000 with a large battery inside. I am having a difficult time finding the vertical balance. Can you tell me how many weights you are using as well as ANY other information that can help me get this thing balanced??? I've been trying for hours!!! Thanks!!
so you didn't have any problem shooting the A1 with the Glidecam 2000? it's the A1 heavyer then 6 pounds? how difficult was it? do you think the 4000 would be better?
hi, so how do you handle focus? i guess it's not an option to use the manual focus ring on the xha1 when its attached to the glidecam.

Auto focus or a lanc controller.

you need to practice alot... I film weedings and I can handle xhai without any equipments.
seriously, it's heavy, but I don't need that 1000$ equipment.
and even with wide angle lens, the 2000pro can make the job.
you streach it and add more weight.
