The only thing is the changes they have made from book to screen.

The character Meridith isn't even in the show and personally I think she's an important character just to show the united from both her & Bonnie. Bonnie being the sensitive of the two. - Also the idea of Zack? Stefan & Damon's human relation? It just doesn't work for me. xx

I know from many comments that the books came before Twilight, however, the show did not. Since Twilight was a smash, chances are this will probably be too, but that doesn't mean it won't get compared. Whoever the author is clearly did not copy this from Stephanie Meyer and I can probably truthfully say nor did she copy this. Hasn't anyone noticed this is basically vampire folklore just with a modern twist. Twilight and V.D. clearly just both fallen victim to over two hundred years of legends.

I've never read the books but from what I see here, the show doesn't look good. Here's why:

-Vampires in high school

-high school girl falls in love with a vampire many times older than her

-vampires can come out in the sun

-good vamp VS evil vamp

So far, I don't see too many differences between this & Twilight.

The concepts are slightly different, the only similarities are that they both have vampires in them, and there is a main girl. But tons of books have that. In Twilight, Bella's danger is mostly the outside forces of other vampires that want to get vengence for losing James, and her best friend a werewolf falls for her.

In this series, it's about two brothers who want a girl for different reasons, one is good, one is evil. That's the whole tagline. I prefer Twilight.

I don't think either of them copied each other-this is just a very common recipe for a story plot. That would be like saying Cinderella copied Sleeping Beauty or any other of those princess stories.

I feel bad for the next Author that writes a vampire novel cause it will be compared to Twilight and everyone will say its a rip off. Most vampire novels shows movies are similar but not exactly the same. I say if it has different characters and plot and the basic story idea is mostly different than it's not a rip off. They came out in the early 90s... Stefan was the original "vegetarian" vampire, taking the blood from animals so he didn't have to take it from humans, and the Brad Pitt character did the same thing in Interview with the Vampire for a while at least ;) Still love Twilight though.
