yes indeed... years looking for it. so much time that i even forgot about it. Saw an article about Afghan's Kandahar and I went like "Wait. what was Kuldahar? Was it from IWD?" So I googled and when I saw "Kuldahar's theme"... oh. good memories coming back. I had chills. Epic.
I like to play with a "classic" adventure party: four characters; fighter, thief, cleric, mage. I set it on "Full Game" and "Heart of Fury" mode. They are hitting level 6 before the prologue is over.
@africanopower If you have it as an MP3 you can use a sound editor like Audacity to cut and edit it so that it will loop a few times within if you want it to be longer :)
I haven't played this game in years...there are times in certain areas of World of Warcraft where I just stop and listen to the music, provided I'm somewhere I won't get attacked (Terokkar Forest in Outland is one such example)...but this game - and this tune in particular, I think - was what got me interested in video game music in the first place.
IWD and Kuldahar theme mean so much for me. IWD and music by J. Soule were my first contacts to fantasy (FR) in my teens and I feel honored when I look back upon it. :)
The thing which makes Icewind Dale's music so special is that each theme brings to you the feeling of the place your visiting in the game when it is played; it evokes the wind, the ice, the warm fire, the soft breeze, and it evokes many smels too. There are many great musical pieces in Role Playing Games, but this goes beyond that.
Black Isle and Interplay were in a league of their own with computer games. Its just real nice to know that others enjoyed them as much as i did and still do.
Jeremy Soule is a wonderful composer for video game music. Other great games he's worked on are Guild Wars, Neverwinter Nights, The Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Oblivion and Guild Wars.
I'm glad people actually realize the stupidness of gaming today.
Honestly, I think it's because most of the video gamers we have today are 10 year old kids with no taste in storyline and depth.
I plan on becoming an indie developer. And although the odds are against my success, I plan on wiping the competition of the internet by bringing back the best things from the classics. xD
@Grykus7 Most gaming companies nowadays are in it for the money, and making a quick gratification game garners the most money in the least amount of time, the game be damned. The games I see now are all remakes with different names or sequels of previous games. Originality, plot development and storytelling take time that they are not willing to spend. I miss the old RPGs that put the same amount of focus on story as the rest of the game elements, and I applaud your dream and wish you success!
@sharkmaster99 TRUE!!! i remember some years ago I re-played the whole game just because i hadn't understood the plot properly the first time! then, any magic weapon, book or whatever in the game has his own story to tell. FIENDS! i miss such games!
What type of flute is used in this song?

They don't make games like this anymore. :(

See how incredibly important music is for a game? It has no soul without it.

Does anyone know the name of the instrument that is the woodwind? Surely it's not a normal flute...
Latisku 1 year ago
@Latisku It's playable on an alto recorder.

@rdecredico I'm sure it is playable on an alto recorder, but I was wondering what instrument it is :(

After doing a lot of research on comparing sound samples, I am fairly certain that it is a professional ocarina.
