  • What type of flute is used in this song?

  • They don't make games like this anymore. :(

  • Siempre fue de mis favoritas...

  • fuck this brings back memories

  • ...I want to live in Kuldahar ever since I heard it.

  • This gives me a feeling of tranquility

  • this is fascinating!

  • loved this track, my long search finding it has paid off at last!

  • @Renzule

yes indeed... years looking for it. so much time that i even forgot about it. Saw an article about Afghan's Kandahar and I went like "Wait. what was Kuldahar? Was it from IWD?" So I googled and when I saw "Kuldahar's theme"... oh. good memories coming back. I had chills. Epic.

  • Possibly the best soundtrack for a game ever! Well done Black Isle!

  • Jeremy Soule is a God amonst insects.

  • Epic gosh gosh goshing gosh epic <3

  • I like to play with a "classic" adventure party: four characters; fighter, thief, cleric, mage. I set it on "Full Game" and "Heart of Fury" mode. They are hitting level 6 before the prologue is over.

  • I always remember this music & its particular setting, on first entering it, being a perfect match

  • THIS SONG IS TOO SHORT!!!! misery begins at 1:22

  • @africanopower If you have it as an MP3 you can use a sound editor like Audacity to cut and edit it so that it will loop a few times within if you want it to be longer :)

  • I haven't played this game in years...there are times in certain areas of World of Warcraft where I just stop and listen to the music, provided I'm somewhere I won't get attacked (Terokkar Forest in Outland is one such example)...but this game - and this tune in particular, I think - was what got me interested in video game music in the first place.

  • I bought the game after I heard this song

  • So peaceful music!

    Too short for me.

  • Does anyone know the name of the instrument that is the woodwind? Surely it's not a normal flute...

  • @Latisku It's playable on an alto recorder.

  • @rdecredico I'm sure it is playable on an alto recorder, but I was wondering what instrument it is :(

  • @Latisku It's a flute.

  • @Latisku

After doing a lot of research on comparing sound samples, I am fairly certain that it is a professional ocarina.

  • IWD and Kuldahar theme mean so much for me. IWD and music by J. Soule were my first contacts to fantasy (FR) in my teens and I feel honored when I look back upon it. :)

  • @mybirch

I feel the same, some powerful music which brings out feellings within all of us that we treasure and hold on to.

  • No matter how many new RPGs I play, this theme still is the best f'cking piece of roleplaying-music I've ever heared.

  • Agreed!

  • The thing which makes Icewind Dale's music so special is that each theme brings to you the feeling of the place your visiting in the game when it is played; it evokes the wind, the ice, the warm fire, the soft breeze, and it evokes many smels too. There are many great musical pieces in Role Playing Games, but this goes beyond that.

  • @Descalabro nicely spoken, and we owe only the composer for that beauty...

  • @Descalabro Amen brother, couldn't have described it better myself.

  • makes me feel at peace with everything and everyone :D

  • Black Isle and Interplay were in a league of their own with computer games. Its just real nice to know that others enjoyed them as much as i did and still do.

  • oh wonderful. I adore soundtracks and instrumental musics, can anyone recommend me more games with such amazing osts?

  • Jeremy Soule is a wonderful composer for video game music. Other great games he's worked on are Guild Wars, Neverwinter Nights, The Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Oblivion and Guild Wars.

  • Dungeon siege is one the best. Especially the theme of besieged town.

  • Great Tree in Kuldahar is so beautiful... like this song. Long live to Kuldahar and peace for the citizens what live there :)

PS: Long live to Uncle Osvald !!!

  • 5 stars, so beautiful and longing, like nostalgia for something you've never experienced.

  • wow, I could not describe this feeling better

  • this song gives me goosebumps every time, so beautiful and peaceful, u cant help but lose yourself in it.. Jeremy soule is one musical genius!!

  • omg I loved the kuldahar theme so much.

I even go into and again out of a house only to hear the kuldahar theme and do it again if this theme don't start^^

  • They just don't make amazing games as much as they do back then..

Now it's just all graphics. It's BS

    Makes me puke

  • You got that right friend, thats why I dont mind playing old classics from time to time

  • I'm glad people actually realize the stupidness of gaming today.

Honestly, I think it's because most of the video gamers we have today are 10 year old kids with no taste in storyline and depth.

I plan on becoming an indie developer. And although the odds are against my success, I plan on wiping the competition of the internet by bringing back the best things from the classics. xD

  • @Grykus7 Most gaming companies nowadays are in it for the money, and making a quick gratification game garners the most money in the least amount of time, the game be damned. The games I see now are all remakes with different names or sequels of previous games. Originality, plot development and storytelling take time that they are not willing to spend. I miss the old RPGs that put the same amount of focus on story as the rest of the game elements, and I applaud your dream and wish you success!

  • @sharkmaster99 TRUE!!! i remember some years ago I re-played the whole game just because i hadn't understood the plot properly the first time! then, any magic weapon, book or whatever in the game has his own story to tell. FIENDS! i miss such games!

  • I totally agree with you. I love games with story, great themes and characters. They just look good these days they have no soul.

  • Found ya!

  • Most beutiful track in gaming ever.. in fact, the most beautiful overall as well

  • Miss that good old school quality of games :/

  • Your not the only one :(

  • Not the only one at all. Fuck crysis and all that shit. Sure nice graphics and all, but seriously where is the story, feeling, soul, and atmosphere?

  • music-wise IWD beats the living crap out of BG.

  • This is awesome. I love the atmosphere in Icewind Dale in general but this tune simply steals the show. Makes me wanna go to Kuldahar, hahaha.

  • Damnit, now I wanna go to Kuldahar too.

  • Love this track.

  • IMO Icewind Dale's most beautiful moment in terms of music

  • i always listen this song to calm down.. lovelyy!

  • I just LOVE this song, so dreamy, lovely, peaceful, makes you wanna get into the game!

  • This would be a great album...just music like this.
