Even tho i spend more than 7hrs a day over my computer playing. I never got to understand what was good with Star Trek. Tried really hard, but shitty acting, shitty characters, Shitty Quality - i know it's old - , But still. Those languages wouldn't take more than 5hrs in a kindergarden with a recorder to make up. Basicly i just cant stop finding myself in the couch with the remote, seeing star trek for 5mins. And then simply turn of the TV and go wash my eyes.

It would be one of the best series ever if only it weren't so... preachy. For example, one of the things I never quite forgave the series for was the insistence that Data was "alive."

Yeah just about every episode ended with a lesson learned.There was always a moral to the story.I never really considered Data to be alive.I considered him like the best pet ever.Capt. Picard it seemed thought of Data as like a friend/son.Like at the end of Nemesis when he was explaining to B-4 what Data was like ,it seemed Picard was using B-4 as a son of sorts because he never had a kid and always wanted one. technology could develop to the point where A.I would classify as alive,like cyborgs.

It's still one of my favorite shows, but I see where you're coming from.

Especially with the early TNG and some of the original series, Gene Roddenberry tended to ram the moral down our throats, or at least I thought so. Sometimes it wasn't so bad when Patrick Stewart or William Shatner could actually pull the lines off with conviction, but I definitely see your point.

You've gotta admit that most of the episodes with Data had heart... the episode where he made a daughter was a good episode, as was the one where the boy models himself after Data, Data having saved his life, and other similar episodes.

I also thought that the "moral" thing sort of became less and less prevalent as the series went on, mostly due to Gene Roddenberry's death.

TNG had problems, but I think that Data was one of its strengths, and that the morals, while an issue, sort of went away.
