Horrible call on Nascar's fault, even though I like Tony. If Reagan kept his line then it would been exactly what happened at the next race where Edwards flipped into the fence. Reagan moved over and avoided a bad wreck but lost the race while Keselowski kept his line, had a bad wreck and still won the race.
its ironic because regan got the respect he deserved and then some despite being run over by a wannabe rich guy thinking he owns everything. its ok because this made regans first win at the southern 500, one of the most prestigious events on the circuit.
ok smith got passed Stewart when he was back above the line, Stewart forced him down, and he avoided an accident by doing it. All are HARDLINE nascar rules.
but you know why they didn't give Smith the win?
because it would be "bad for ratings" if Stewart lost that way. The sad truth is Nascar is pretty rigged now-a-days :(
Why retards like Helton and France (brian) should not be put in charge of anything, just because they were born with a silver spoon up their asses they have to ruin nascar
NASCAR needs to change the rule to where if you have made it where the blocker isnt clear anymore and the blockers shoves you under you may pass under the line
being a regan smith fan, this is really hard to watch. he was forced under the line and he came back up on the track before he actually passed stewart
im glad theres less politics involved this year. i mean montoya and newman got into fist fight on friday and they still raced an if that had happened 2 years ago theyd be out a few races
Regan did the right thing. If he held his ground and turned tony, it would've been a mirror of edward's crash in the next race, maybe even worse, who knows. pisses me off to this day.
he got screwed by nascar during this race and got screwed out of a ride from dei he is my won of my favorite drivers from my state(NY) hes doing so great in that 78 this year what a comeback
This is a lesson to up & coming drivers: if you have the choice of wrecking the whole field behind you or going below the yellow line, be sure you wreck the field or you'll get penalized. Sigh...NASCAR dropped the ball hard on this one.
I'm a big Tony fan, and I don't agree with the yellow line rule. I believe out of bounds should be the grass. Regan Smith, woulda been better off if he stood his ground and turned Stewart instead of avoiding a wreck. Just look at what happened in 2009 with Keselowski and Edwards.
That's just rotten what NASCAR did to this kid. Regan Smith won that race hands down, he was forced below the line and had no chance to go on the track with a whole line of cars behind him. If the same thing happened to Dale Jr. or Jimmie Johnson you know it would've been legal, it's just because he's not a popular face in the garage. Way to screw someone NASCAR.
to clear everything up REGAN SMITH WON i am a HUGE tony fan but he was forced down and I don't think he completed the pass until he got onto the track
Regan did go under the yellow line, but he came back up before he passed Tony. so Regan should have won that race. i don't care what the nascar history books say, but i'm counting that as Regans Win
Smith was screwed, if i was Smith i wouldve put him in the fucking wall. NASCAR sucks a huge dick, if i was Stewart i wouldnt be cheering, that is pathetic that he was GIVEN the win.
man i wish regan would have held his line instead of going down below the yellow.....then again if regan would have held his line nascar would have took his win away for wrecking tony lol
P.S. kyle busch could learn a thing or two about how to handle yourself in a bad situation from this! OH YEAH and how quick were his reflexes right there? i mean he had less than a split second to get that car out of tony's way.
such a crap call. i didnt watch a single race the rest of the season bcuz of this call. and i echo the sentiments of the other commentors if it had been a big name in the sport they'd have given him the win. and that he was forced down. also i agree that if its a choice between this or ending up with a race car in your lap, you allow the move below the line coming to the checkered only! just out of turn four not anywhere else. its just crap and thats one GOOD reason ill bet why ratings are down.
the thing tht gets me is nascar makes this "YELLOW LINE" rule, but it is not for the drivers saftey. we saw what can happen if a driver doesnt move when this happens at talledega this spring with keslowski, and edwards. its stupid. if your forced, then let it go. im still scratching my head on this one.
whoever made this desision on the winner is a jackass because smith did get forced under the line. this is on of the fucked up calls nascar has made!!!!!!!!
I agree, go watch the race where Earnhardt Jr. passed Kenseth (and more importantly Johnson) to advance his position and eventually win the 2003 Aaron's 499. Do a search for this video (The Tony Stewart Regan Smith Controversy Race Day 2008 Part 1) to see a pretty good segment about Nascar and their bogus calls.
regan smith should have gotten his first carrer win at talladega and tony stewart should have finished second to him.... it's clear that smith get's forced below the yellow line and he could have crashed tony and made him mad but he didn't so i think nascar made a horrible decision there.
now it was clear that reagan smith went for it and was pushed below the line and couldnt make it back in the line. its a bull shit call from nascar and inconsistant. reagan should have won the race.
now thats whats wrong with nascar. inconsist if anyone remembers a truck race at daytona where a truck was clearly below the yellow line at the finish the officials said "anything goes on the last lap: and that truck got the finishing spot
