One small error - virtually all of the money the gov't "lends" to banks and other companies comes from YOU the taxpayer. The federal and local governments have absolutely no income producing operations other than taxation of companies and individuals. Corporate taxes are paid out of revenues from sales, and that revenue ultimately comes from consumers - YOU. What this guy failed to metion was that Chrysler will be paying back the loans and that the government wll be selling their shares in Chrysler which in turn will make a profit for the taxpayers. Also there is no metion of the monies given to the banks, which I might add does not have to be paid back. It was suppose to help the taxpayers but the banks just made getting loans harder. Remember the Chrysler and GM bailout saved over 100,000 jobs accross the country.

the government is not controlling anything. they are not telling automakers what to build, and how. they are acting as a lender of last resort and demanding that costs be brought under control and that a realstic business plan be made that assumes 9-10 million cars sold yoy versus 16-18mm, to ensure payback.

50 years of building up american auto manufacturing has resulted in a lot more retirees for them to take care of. and add healthcare to the mix, and you get $3,000 extra cost per car to pay for it.

if you think getting paid well is criminal, then know avg US wages have tanked $2,700 over the past 7 years. not sure why that is good news when consumer spending is 2/3 of economic activity.
