Nice roaring sound on the guitar, which is how this tune needs to be played. There's a sort of ferocity in that opening riff that then gives way to the thunderous strumming. One quibble: I like a pregnant pause just before the line..."or call it reason..." which I heard Phil play once in that way. Not sure where to find that recording again, but it really nails home the final line wonderfully.
Wow, Larry, what a passionate speech and a passionate rendition of this song. I gave up on politicians a long time ago. Elections are nothing but an exercise in futility.
An excellent cover. You captured Phil Och's passion and conviction very well. Would you please consider performing Phil Ochs' "The Power and the Glory.'' This too is a wonderful anthem. Peace. Take care.
I might have known you'd be a Phil Ochs fan! I'm a Republican, but not in the sense that the Republican party has been acting much of the time. I'm what I consider a constitutional and libertarian Republican. I don't believe the majority is always right, so I could never be a Democrat. Our nation is a constitutional republic, and should be supported as such. As for war, I believe in defending our freedom, but we haven't fought in a legitimate war since WW2.
Do I look liberal? Like a Phil Ochs fan? If the last sentence in your comment reflects your true feelings, then you certainly would not get a seat at the Republican Convention.. The timelessness of this song is that it applies to the two party system as it exists in its fractured state in our great country. If the founding fathers saw what has become of their ideals, they would be appalled. The country is great. The people in power mostly suck. They posture rather than work for the people.
The fact that a Libertarian Republican, would not get a seat at the Republican Convention does not negate that he is a Republican. The problem is that the Republican Party has been hijacked by extremist elements, as has the Democratic Party. In the past, I've been a registrant of both parties. However, I now realize that it is folly to adhere to a "party line." These days, I take the position that I consider "right" irrespective of which party is advocating it. PS: I Love Phil Ochs.
Larry - your opinion about the state of world is also mine....and many others think the same, but instead spreading around what they think they keep the mouth shut like brainless idiots. And this is the reason that this crazy crowd of "democratic elected" criminels, all millionaires carry on to ruin the peace on earth, destroying liberty, oppressing the low and middle classes. The richer must get even more and the powerful must get total overall control . Unless we kill them. We the people.
Thanks for your music Larry, but I believe we needed to take action in Iraq concerning Saddam Hussein, but we've been there too long and we need to give the Iraqi people a chance to fight their own freedom and rights now instead of playing international peacemakers. We cut the head off the snake, I only hope another evil head doesn't pop out.
One question: Why attacking Saddam instead of Saoedi Arabia? Most of all 911 guys had that nationality, as has Bin Laden. And they have plenty of oil too...
Well, we don't technically have a two party system. We have a- as many jack ass parties as wants to run- party system.
Even at that though, they're all crap.
If you were elected you would then be privy to all the dirty secrets and would find out as O'bama did that you can't just pull the troops out cause you want to. Throw your hat into the ring, I'd vote for you and then watch you hedge, as we all would. There is no good answer.
You summed up my sentiments exactly with your last statement on the info section. And I think it sucks, I'd like to be involved and have a voice; but instead I just get angry when discussing politics. Integrity and common sense are not part of the system as it functions now....Nice cover by the way..lol
Larry.....This is an appreciated way to use your music....Making people sit up and recognize that this war is costly in so many ways....My cousin missed his sons birth being in Iraq....came home for a short time and now is back there...Its useless to say a war is won......Thank you for this song, played with great guitar sound....ione marie
great job. have never heard that song, but you do a fabulous and passionate job with it. so much truth in that one. I live just a hour from the Little Big Horn battlefield...one of many that should never have been.

Agree or disagree, we need new voices saying what Phil was saying - though it seems there are none in our complacent, draft-free world.
Great song, Larry - and a super, energetic delivery. Thanks!
