  • Did you catch the Pinky-Ring-Of-Power at the sign in!?!? This explains everything ...

  • When I was 9 years old I went to see his movie "The Errand Boy" in 1961. I was a fan of Mr. Lewis from that day on. I have some of his movies on DVD including "TEB".

  • He changed.

  • There's only Jerry left

  • Those responses are brilliant! I tend to answer that way whenever I'm not sure of a question myself. lol Love you Jerry! (Though I know in real life you're a butt) lol

  • Has anyone noticed how much Jim Carrey was inspired by Jerry Lewis?

  • @dangraphic Yes!!!! I always saw that!! I can't wait for there to be another comedian like them...I miss laughing...

  • Mon idole !!!!!!!!!!

  • ugh this is so sad. three days before martin and lewis break up and everyone is prying :'(

  • Brilliant. Thanks for sharing.

  • I luv Jerry Lewis <3 <3

  • from what i read. he was a cocky arrogant and ceoncieted man..i never got this guy

  • Sorry but I never quite got this guy.

  • I LOVE HIIIMMMMMM... if you havent seen which way to the front you should watch it

  • He and Dean Martin were the tops when I was growing up, Everybody loved them as they were so, so funny... God Bless them both for joy they brought into the world..xo

  • Hes one of a kind.

  • Why does he keep wiping his mouth with a handkerchief?

  • @GhostOfBugsy A lot of people did it back then, since there was no air conditioning in buildings, or maybe he was a bit stressed out by their questions of his splitting up with Dean or something, Idk.

  • Actually this video was made 2 days before the split of Dean and Jerry. They split up July 24, 1956 ): Wish they wouldnt have

  • I agree he was a good looking young man. Very talented

  • So cute!

  • Ironically Dean and him split up a couple days later, hence the "Ehhhh" as a reaction to "Are you about to work alone?"

  • I remember watching these shows when I was a kid in the 50's....I always focused on the contestants and the panel....in retrospect, John Daly was the funniest and most quick witted of them all....absolutely fantastic!

  • I never found him funny, never. He always came across as a "goofball".

  • @cheeriosinabowl But that's kind of the point of his type of comedy. He was known for slapstick. XD

  • @TaviaStrife

....well, to each his own. Never liked him.

  • his voice is so cute

  • Awww he was so cute ^-^

  • "Oh now we have to figure out which one it is!"

I knew they'd get him in under 2 minutes!

  • He's so adorably gorgeous!

  • And he showed them all with that fantastic album that came out in 1957.

  • Bennett Cerf: That master of reading nuance. The audience reacted with hoots to the "Do you work alone?" question. No way Cerf was going to misinterpret that!

  • So humble and funny. This episode was harsh.

  • he's such a sweetheart!!! awww!!! <3

  • 4:31 even that looks cute! I love Jerry, one of the funniest men ever

  • Did Jerry Lewis deserve that barb at the end from John Daly? Don't think so...Jerry didn't make the comment, Arlene did.

  • "Nooo." lol

  • God he is so freaking gorgeous !!!!!!!!!!! XD ♥

  • @MJRookieRook I know right!

  • Hhmm he was hot back in the day ;)

    & funny!

  • I fail to see the humor in this man.

  • @heula1 Then you don't know him very well. He is not only funny, but one of the greatest humanitarians on earth. The world could use a few more just like Jerry Lewis.

  • @DeedsResearcher Amen to that. I don't understand how people can dislike Jerry. Must be out of their minds lol

  • @heula1 I agree I thought he was just stupid. His "humor" never appealed to me.

  • Ironically, they would split 3 days later.

  • I heard that the Beatles broke up, too. I've been in isolation way to long.

  • @JeffersonDinedAlone ..what ,,the beatles broke up,,,,,wow,,,when,,,,where did u hear that!

  • If Dean was watching, I bet he had a fit with "are you the funniest of the two?" lol

  • "Do you work alone?" .. I bet he just loved that!

  • LOL that first noooo! Oh gosh, I forgot how funny he was XD

  • How difficult for Jerry to disguise his voice. He had so many different noises he made it would be hard not to recognize his voice... And then "Are you ALLOWED to work on your own...?" What a question. Not to put him on the same level at all but for his generation he's like Jim Carrey of our generation. But yes, actors were much better then than they are now.

  • 2:13 John Daly is in denial.

  • Interesting that Vivian Blaine was on the panel, and that Jerry and Dean were at the Copa at the time. When they first worked there ten years earlier they opened for Miss Blaine....and were such a smash the management asked Blaine to open for THEM. She refused....and left in tears.

  • @Nsm555 I hadn't realized that was the same person! Thank you for pointing that out. :)

  • @Nsm555

That explains the brief acknowledgement by Lewis of her while shaking her hand, and the look on her face as she watched him leaving the set. Imagine what was going through her mind. I thought she was enamored by him at first, by after reading your comments, her look makes more sense.

  • @chicagoam1

After looking at the entire clip again, she does indeed seem to be excited that it WAS Jerry. Maybe she was enamored after all.

  • I don't agree with americangirl564. They loved each other. And of course he would be associated with Dean...they were a popular duo and well loved! I don't sense any of what americangirl564 suggests. Leaves me wondering if she's watching the same segment?

  • omg this was three days before their breakup?!

  • Love, love, love this man for the man he is, not the entertainer!!!! Altough the entertainer is not bad!

  • he's so heartbreakingly sweet! awwww!!!

  • What a sweet gentleman.

  • his little bangs are so adorable!!!

  • donald trump - what`s my line on my tube

  • This bloke used to have me in tears back in the 70's !!!!

  • jerry is such a doll

  • what else would entertainment be? what do you think he meant?

  • @jennyrgar I think what he meant by being "strictly" is to have true entertainment that are created just for the mere fun of it without all the harmful tabloids and rumors, which played a part of him and dean breaking up.

  • @chgw01 ah. ya i honestly dont know much about the story. i know they split up. tried to look on youtube but didnt try too hard, got distracted with other videos.

  • At this age...he was extremely attractive!!!

  • @lttguys at any age! hes extremely attractive

  • @lttguys Oh yes!!! Not bad for a 33 year old ^_^

  • Dean Martin split up with Jerry Lewis not the other way around. And Jerry didn't hate it when anybody mentioned Deans name. He was always there for Dean when Dean needed him

  • @caligirl818able

Jerry went to Dean actually and broke it off, Dean was just dealing and being patient, they werent getting along but as what the tabloids were saying and making it bigger than it was, everything was about Jerry so they had a discussion about going different ways. Jerry is my heart and soul but Jerry was the heavy, anybody would be tired of eachother after working 10 years together wanting to do diff things and such never mind the tension, every movie was dean being bad guy

  • 4 days later he split up with Dean.

  • I suggest "Dean and Me," a great biography written by Lewis, as a meticulous account of their career, and Lewis' unselfish tribute to his late partner.

  • "Are you the funniest one of the two"?? CRINGE!!!

  • jerry lewis is dreamy... what a beautiful man

  • w. a. q.

  • Hard to describe how huge he was...

  • He's a big star, funny in many movies etc but I really enjoyed his talents in The Nutty Professor.

  • Their break-up is one of the most saddest things i've ever heard of.

  • I think "great balls of fire"was some of Jerry Lewis`s best work...:-)

  • @paulspydar Sorry - that was Jerry LEE Lewis - not Jerry Lewis the actor.

  • @cowakid i was kidding!!... but thanks for the correction but shame you didn't get the joke. my British humor i guess.

  • Paul Winchell. The voice of Tigger in the Disney Winnie the Pooh movies. In the panel.

  • That was great and those were sure the good old days.

  • He looks like Jim Carrey

  • He looks handsome in here! And he's soooooo funny, although I love Dean Martin too :)

  • I think it was the drugs and derailment from the pratfalls that sank his movie career later. Exactly the same thing with Chevy Chase a decade or two later.

  • lewis had a great career. no one could top him in the 50's and 60's. he and martin where the beatles of comedy.

  • Cerf's mean remark was answered so well by Lewis:

"Once we're in front of this particular entertainment medium, we should make it strictly entertainment and not anything other than that".

Then he glares at Cerf. A great retort.

  • He sounds like he's getting ready to cry at 4:30-4:34.

  • LOL

  • Jerry Lewis had the sexiest voice lips and hair...love him

  • Aww, you can tell here how everyone likes Jerry much more than Dean and how much Jerry is trying to stick up for Dean, which is what drove them apart in the first place. :(

  • jerry like zombie voice :-) very funny !

  • geez he was the perfect guy. Hansom, charming, and hilarious.

  • Jerry's soo cute!! :D And so funny!

  • Thanks :D

  • 1:37

  • such a low blow at 2:05 i just cringed but at least jerry played it off well

  • 1:27 hahahaha!

I love when he looks straight at the camera and when he looks confused and then smiles and nods at 1:49 lol

He has such a gorgeous voice, a lovely smile and such sexy lips, and he always looks amazingly handsome in a tux!

    Bless him!

  • his voice is so adorable

  • He looks streight into the camera at us a couple times--kinda cool.

  • Jerry always thought of himself as a singer - he even had a semi-hit record in the late 1950's. He always sang on his own TV shows and when he subbed for Johnny Carson in the late 1960's, he'd always end his monologue with a song.

  • It would've been funny if they had Dean Martin disguised as one of the contestants.

  • @phoen99rising He did on their last episode, its here on youtube :)

  • they broke up July 24, 1956 and Padners came out the very next day. so this is two days before the break up

  • he seems quite agitated...? he seemed so relaxed with dean in the other clip..?

  • Ok can someone tell me why him and dean broke up?

  • @xxcharmed1xx Dean and Jerry were best friends, and loved each other very much, but Dean was always criticized by journalists. This pained Dean. Jerry knew that Dean was a great comic talent, and he loves him very much. But in the end they fought. The two are separated in order to grow artistically. Dean Martin alone has become a great actor and singer. And Jerry has continued to be a monster of comedy. Twenty years later they made peace. ciaooo :)

  • LOL YESSYESYESYES

    jerry lewis<3

  • 4:18 Wow! Words of wisdom that have apparently lost their echo into today!

  • Poor Jerry. You know he just hated when they mentioned Dean. He probably just wanted to go sit in a corner and cry. But he was sweet and polite about it. Gotta love Jerry!!

  • jerry lewis 4 ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gotta love his reactions.

  • Forget lips! I LOVE his hair. I dunno if it sounds wrong or what not but honestly... It just makes you wanna run your hands through his hair. I LOVE JERRY :D Pity that they broke up Dean and Jerr. They were the perfect partners :)

  • @Jessmira23 lol forget the hair and the lips.....he was just idk....amazing....in all ways.... :D <3

  • Ooh that boy was fine when he was young! Still great what he does for MDA.

  • I think that the questions "do you work alone?", "are you about to work alone?" and "are you the funniest one of the two?" were really weird and boring for him. it looks like he was punched on the stomach....he didn't know what to say...

  • I thought that Martin and Lewis final performance together was July 25? I think ,and correct me if I'm wrong, at this point he is in the midst of his last performances with Dean at the Copa.

  • @nrhoyt1

It was. That was why it was corrected to "about to work alone."

  • @snowleopard010 Haha me too.

I never realized how often he does it until I watched the colgate comedy hour.

  • This was hilarious, but the last couple of questions made me kinda sad.

    Jerry's such a doll though.

    Love you Jer!

  • Jerry is the "MAN"!

  • I love how Jerry makes fun of the "now it's time to plug your latest movie" part of the show. It's great!!

  • Danny Kaye's 'What's my line' is funnier because he lies his head off. But Jerry was a great comedian too.

  • I love how he says "yes ma'am" at 3:00.

  • @seajayaway can I say that I thought the same exact thing when he said that. haha.. so fantastic.

  • oooohhh this makes me so sad! it must have been really hard for jerry to do this. he and dean were just a few days away from doing their very last show together.

  • I can't get enough of Old Hollywood stars they are all so timeless are wonderful. thanx for the post

  • @merriny Right, right. It's like you can't even simmer down. Awkward. Ok, ending this conversation then.

  • @merriny Look, I don't wanna argue or anything, but as a fan of both Jerry and Dean, I must defend Jerry's partner and say that Dean Martin is also very funny. And really, I'm not the only one saying that Dean is one of the best singers out there. Try doing some research, aye?

I love Jerry and Dean, both equally. And I they were both talented in their own ways. So, you can't say that Jerry is more than Dean, or Dean is more talented than Jerry.

  • Comment removed

  • @merriny The both were funny in their own ways. If Dean couldn't sing, why was he considered as one of the best singers in the world? Dean was a crooner, that is a higher standard than a singer. And if Dean wasn't funny, then why did he have his own comedy show "The Dean Martin Show"? He was an all-around entertainer, and one of the best entertainers. So, don't you say that Dean isn't talented, because he is!

  • Probably the saddest time on the show ever. Martin and Lewis were so big, and nobody would have believe what was going to happen.

  • I didn't quite appreciate the "are you the funniest of the two?" question. at the end arlene tries to backtrack and cover her ass with that "singingest" comment... but to no avail. how awkward. jerry was so classy, giving dean a compliment. he looked so sad here, but ever diplomatic. NEVER DIE, JERRY LEWIS. <3

  • What did he do on 5:11?

  • Comment removed

  • Could you explain the reference? I'm not familiar on Martin and Lewis history.

  • @BCISaf03 This was the time that Dean and Jerry had split up as a comedic duo. When Jerry was asked if he was about to work alone, Jerry went through a flashback of his friendship with Dean. Dean and Jerry worked for 10 years together, but Dean got tired of playing the straight man and wanted to work alone. The two of them had different plans in their career, so they split up. But Jerry was still grieving over their fight and their break-up because he really loved Dean as a brother and a father.

  • One word for Jerry... HOT!

  • haha he looks so tired lol

  • LMAO Jerry Lewis is hilarious and really hot back in the day.

  • hes still a looker..hes better than dick clark now

  • Yes he was definitely a looker back in the day. Jerry Lewis always did funny faces and changed the pitch of his voice...it was his "schtick". I heard that one of the reasons he became so heavily involved in the Muscular Distrophy Foundation (even to this day) was because he was accused of making fun of those with the disease. In an effort to assure critics and apologize for that misconception, he made it a life long goal to help them as much as possible.

  • @luvbearbut I never heard Jerry publicly say why he got involved with M.D.. At the time he started his involvement no one had heard of M.D. unless you had a family member affected with it so I dont know who would have accussed him. I think there are personal reasons we will never know about. But he is relentless to the cause and highly devoted to the kids GOD BLESS HIM

  • You know, is it just me, or does he seem like he is tweakin'? They way he is acting and his facial movements, I don't know he seems to be on something speedy

  • @cursenfumble he always makes silly faces and he had 2 disguise his voice

  • He was cute in his younger days.

  • Jerry couldn't hold Dean's jock! He was too ambitious, too cocky and too demanding.

  • Jerry Lewis could sing, but not as well as Dean.

  • @shanghaibenny2 i think he sings gr8 he just sings different- I love his voice

  • Are you the funnier of the two? soooooooo rude! How's he supposed to answer that.

  • I think what they meant was you know how one guy is the straight man and the other is the goofy one, I think that's what they meant when they said funnier.

  • hes cute jerry lewis

  • Jerry is the King and Lucy is the Queen.

  • He was a cutie when he was young!

  • Do u work alone!!? --> r u about to work alone!?

    XD

    poor kid...

  • hehe!!..............Ole Jerry when he was young sounded like he was a helium user...............listen to that high voice!

  • I love You Jerry.

  • Comment removed

  • he and lucy are the greatest of all time

  • You are a person after my own heart. I couldn't agree with you more! Love Jerry and Lucy!

  • @Rico8458 i agree... or lucy, bob hope and eve arden were the greatest.

  • @Rico8458 Oh,I think Jackie Gleason could be easily put in that crowd.

  • As Jerry so aptly said, "I like it, I like it!!!"

  • he had the sexiest lips of all time

  • Fascinating comment; I never thought of that before. At 1:53, I think I may know what you mean...

  • yeah that was when I noticed it too

  • jerrys were good. but brandos tops i think.

  • @Aidooosh has

  • @Aidooosh totally! lol

  • he was cute wasnt he?

  • Yes He was a cutie

  • I love it - thank you for posting, and I'm so happy that he's getting an Emmy! I love him.
