I'm really impressed by this movie. I saw Jackson's movie first and I always thought "I don't want to see a CARTOON of The Lord Of The Rings!", but I have to confess that now I prefer this one. It captures the book's "spirit"/tone and the characters and atmosphere really can touch you.

Tolkien credits Bilbo with the original version of 'Hey Diddle Diddle' as well as inventing the expressions 'let sleeping giants lie' and 'out of the frying pan, into the fire'. He then goes on to say something along the lines of, "that is not the way it is remembered today, though', for each one of those things. :) They are inside jokes for people who pay attention to that sort of thing.
As much as I love Viggo Mortensen and as much as I hate Aragorn's character design in this film character wise I like this version of the character better. Seriously how can you beat John Hurt?

Here is some food for thought. The Beatles were wanting to do this movie and the roles were passed around to the Beatles however JRR didnt want them to do it he didn't want the book to be made into a movie. the character designes here are really bad. Though Merry and Frodo aren't to bad I guess. One good thing here is they stayed truer to the book than in the film.
This was done with a process called Rotoscoping. They basically filmed a live action film and then animated over it, frame by frame. The budget dictated where they had to skimp on the animation a little bit...which is why sometimes it just looks like an odd live action film.
This animation made Sam look like a second class citizen of the Shire. Peter Jackson did a great job on the LoTR. Would have been better if he followed everything by the books of Tolkien.

Here is some food for thought. The Beatles were wanting to do this movie and the roles were passed around to the Beatles however JRR didnt want them to do it he didn't want the book to be made into a movie. the character designes here are really bad. Though Merry and Frodo aren't to bad I guess. One good thing here is they stayed truer to the book than in the film.

For anyone interested.
This was done with a process called Rotoscoping. They basically filmed a live action film and then animated over it, frame by frame. The budget dictated where they had to skimp on the animation a little bit...which is why sometimes it just looks like an odd live action film.

This animation made Sam look like a second class citizen of the Shire. Peter Jackson did a great job on the LoTR. Would have been better if he followed everything by the books of Tolkien.
