MP3s are the exact same music that you know and love simply saved into a digital format that reserves the original quality of the work. I tried downloading songs of Kiss, Poison, Bon Jovi, and others from the 80's that have been made into MP3s, and believe it or not, the quality is the same, if not better, than the original album's music. Sure it's not the same as having a record or CD of the album, but it isn't the unholy abomination that the 4y guy makes it out to be.

@whtfang91 You must have the worst ears in the world, then. MP3's often leave quite noticeable (at least to me) compression artifacts, such as ringing. Plenty of people can hear these same problems. Thus, the quality is not "the same, if not better".

I'm an audio student who has analyzed audio, I think I know what I'm talking about. It's true that MP3's have minor sound issues, but again, it's no different from having a slightly scruffed CD or a lightly scratched record. The quality is practically the same, and if you want it better, simply buy the CD and burn the music at a better format, though I wish you luck getting it to work on your player.

I'm surprised that someone all about common sense is using the erroneous argument that Mp3s are "poor quality".

If you rip a CD at 320kbs, the only ones who would notice the difference are the super elitist golden-eared audiophiles.

It is literally impossible, otherwise, to discern the difference.

In fact, many people with thousands of dollars worth of equipment have said that 256kbs is the maximum efficient quality, because afterward, you reach the point of diminishing returns.

I still go out of my way to buy the CDs, actually. I just like the idea of actually owning something physical that I can put in to produce the music. I still have a ton of cassete tapes too, and listen to them regularly, and I do own a vinyl record player and several vinyl albums, but most of those were "rescued" from being thrown away, and honestly, I don't listen to them as often as the other forms.

Certain MP3's (depending on the way they're coded) show little problems like ringing and an underwater-like sound when compressed too much. Thus, they ruin the sound quality for the people who can hear it.
