Its all about how engaging the story is, and how well developed the characters do, AND the art work and how good the animation is, and also the cinematography!!! :D
some shows are definitely better than others, but that doesn't necessarily mean you will like them more. If you're going to defend your favorite anime though, the "my main character is better than yours" is definitely one of the worst arguments you can use
My favorite anime is Astro Boy (1963) because it's cute, fun to watch, and has great stories and messages. Astro Boy was created buy the late Osamu Tezuka; The writer of over 150,000 pages of manga and the creator of over 1,000 different characters. He was a great writer. All of his mangas were well written. Those are my opinions.

I love all anime, but my favorite is DBZ. To ME (as in my opinion,) DBZ will always be the GOAT of anime because DBZ did so much for manga/anime. See, that's how you can get a debate started, and i will not bash you. I will listen to your opinion. But I'm not one of those hardcore DBZ fans that will only watch DBZ, and hate every other Shonen character. I like Naruto, I like Bleach, etc. DBZ is my personal favorite. But i love all anime, and DBZ might one day get replaced as my favorite.

I like DBZ but I what I hated about it was how they'd fly around for 4 fucking episodes looking for the dragon balls and when they get into a fight they took another 4 fucking episodes to discuss why they're fighting. Then they'd fight, another person would come along and help out then they'd discuss why that person wants to fight them for another 4 fucking episodes. It drove me crazy trying to watch it on Toonami every weekend.
I always base my opinion on how great an anime is opposed to another anime by how many episodes it takes to develop a plot. Or if the characters are developed, or if the anime has amazing replay value. I like Yu Yu Hakusho more than Bleach, Naruto, and DBZ because it only took 4 seasons to create great stories, most main characters were developed without stupid fillers, and I can watch all 4 seasons over and over again without getting bored.

2:40 LOL. What ever happened to PLOT? Another note.. They should keep debates canon oriented.. Can't debate the value of a show based on a hypothetical even of, say, Naruto and Goku duking it out. Powerful characters make for interesting and usually entertaining aspects, but they do not at all make the show..
It would actually take Naruto probably a few hours to actually run around the world, and I am saying him in his nine tails spirit form. Goku can fly around the world in a few minutes.

The blatant morality challenges were just great, and might have been even better if it were a group of cold hearted government leaders rather than a main supervillain. It's a world where you legitimately become more powerful by sacrificing the lives of others, the more the better. It's a beautiful setup for continuous conflict and morality plays.

Naruto has great plot and character development, fullmetal alchemist most likely has the most addictive story, Dbz has amazing voilence but not too much plot or story,Bleach is great and a fair bit like naruto in a sense. but bleach has lost all sense on power level after episode 150, shuffle! Many otakus are in fact anime "elitists" . They believe because they watch a certain anime or how many animes they watch they are the number one authority in what anime is cool. At the center we are enjoying art and being entertained. Story and plot matter but I can't judge someone because they like action. Otakus dont watch bleach or naruto and think about philosphy. Anime is meant to be fun!otakus can watch anything from dragon ball z to lucky star. Debates are cool but dont take it personal.
Personally, I feel like you can't even really compare which anime is better. To me each one is great in their own way. Yes that sounds kinda lame, but think:
Obtaining 7 Dragon Balls v. Becoming Hokage v. Defeating a corrupt Captian who wants to take over the Soul Society v. Finding the biggest treasure in the world...All of those storylines are SO different, you can't really compare them all on the same level.
I get kinda annoyed how often I see those comments as well. But I do see nothing wrong with liking a series just because they like to see the main character kick ass. I don't do it much. But some shows are good for that. That's what popcorn action movies are for. And some people just prefer the action of certain shows even if they do have more story then others.

In progress the most animes like that become more and more " exaggerated" , because probably the makers have to offer more action to the fans. I prefer Naruto, because it is not that exaggerated like the later Dragon Ball, the story is very good (i.e. many characters have their own story and in a way there is just more "character"), tactics are really important in fights....
but thats just my opinion and nothing really important to discuss to me.
Heh, dude, I can't stand people like that either. I rate shows on the story completely. I'm may not be a big fan of Dragon Ball Z, but that's just because I just don't like the all powerful characters whether they're the antagonists or the protagonists. Smae with Naruto, it annoys me a little because the bad guys are alomost always cocky and they lose because they always underestimate the good guy.

naruto is my personal favorite but goku would destroy naruto because goku can move much much faster and can fly. if you look at the facts naruto probably couldnt even hit goku with the rasengan or the rasen shruniken. even if naruto went sage mode, he still wouldnt stand a chance because goku would simply go super saiyan

Many otakus are in fact anime "elitists" . They believe because they watch a certain anime or how many animes they watch they are the number one authority in what anime is cool. At the center we are enjoying art and being entertained. Story and plot matter but I can't judge someone because they like action. Otakus dont watch bleach or naruto and think about philosphy. Anime is meant to be fun!otakus can watch anything from dragon ball z to lucky star. Debates are cool but dont take it personal.

Personally, I feel like you can't even really compare which anime is better. To me each one is great in their own way. Yes that sounds kinda lame, but think:
Obtaining 7 Dragon Balls v. Becoming Hokage v. Defeating a corrupt Captian who wants to take over the Soul Society v. Finding the biggest treasure in the world...All of those storylines are SO different, you can't really compare them all on the same level.

I get kinda annoyed how often I see those comments as well. But I do see nothing wrong with liking a series just because they like to see the main character kick ass. I don't do it much. But some shows are good for that. That's what popcorn action movies are for. And some people just prefer the action of certain shows even if they do have more story then others.

In progress the most animes like that become more and more " exaggerated" , because probably the makers have to offer more action to the fans. I prefer Naruto, because it is not that exaggerated like the later Dragon Ball, the story is very good (i.e. many characters have their own story and in a way there is just more "character"), tactics are really important in fights....
but thats just my opinion and nothing really important to discuss to me.

Heh, dude, I can't stand people like that either. I rate shows on the story completely. I'm may not be a big fan of Dragon Ball Z, but that's just because I just don't like the all powerful characters whether they're the antagonists or the protagonists. Smae with Naruto, it annoys me a little because the bad guys are alomost always cocky and they lose because they always underestimate the good guy.

naruto is my personal favorite but goku would destroy naruto because goku can move much much faster and can fly. if you look at the facts naruto probably couldnt even hit goku with the rasengan or the rasen shruniken. even if naruto went sage mode, he still wouldnt stand a chance because goku would simply go super saiyan
