You can't blame anyone but the commander for this one, whatever the dodgy altimeter said; he took control, disconnected the AP and began flying manually in seriously shitty conditions that took all his concentration. NOBODY noticed that the engines were still at flight idle - hello? is anyone still awake? We all know about the 'flight energy' envelope, and there ain't no way in hell that 'plane is gonna reach the threshhold without powering-on from that distance out. Sad, really.
02:07 if the captains side was wrong most of the flight why did ATC not pick this up on take off, during flight and when established on the ILS at Amsterdam ? and advise the pilot of his error in flight levels
BULLSHIT! This was faulty SHITY engineering on the part of Boeing. How can they honestly plead ignorance with over 2500 cases of radio-altimeter failures. The plane snapped into a mode of flight ALL ITS OWN. This wasn't pilot error. This was a difficult approach which lots of pilots with FUNCTIONAL planes fly routinely. You give the BEST pilot a malfunctioning plane and then you blame the pilot?! This was a seasoned instructor. Boeing's trying to excuse itself here...Its disgustingly obvious.
dude...its dutch subtitles because it was for Amsterdam so the dutch put subs on it for their ppl and it was only version available online to piece together
It's obvious that piece of schwarma got stuck in the throttles and caused the stall. Another reason why schwarma should not be served on international flights. What's up with the arabic subs on a us based video??
@IngiltereliTURK Turkish Airlines safety record speaks for itself. It has one of the highest rates of fatalities per flight. I would never fly Turkish airlines, even if they gave me a free ticket. NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The foreign airlines with the worst fatality records are: Turkish Airlines 3.60, Indian Airlines 3.53 Aeromexico 1.76 Japan Airlines 1.36, SwissAir 1.25.
@Progamble Turkish airlines is good! i fly often with turkish airlines...you cannot compare all of these companys. for example turkish airlines foundation 1933 and swiss airlines foundation 2002!!!!!!and turkish airlines has a large fleet
Last major fatality crash Turkish Airlines had was in 2003.
It was an Avro and before that most major accidents happened in the '70s and, that was the '70s, not 2011.
Considereing Turkish Airlines operates a fleet of 180, compared to Swiss Airs 81 aircraft, Indian Airlines 72, AeroMexicos 104. Japan Airlines 133, we are pretty fucking safe, we aren't the best best the best, just safe.
You are quite exagarating, it didn't win Best Airline of Europe for nothing.
@galatasarayfan67 The statistics dont lie. If u dont like them petition the international aviation authorities to change them. However, as of 2011 Turkish airlines has one the worst saftey records in the world, that is an undeniable statistical fact.
@galatasarayfan67 That would then mean that some of the biggest airlines in the world should have the highest rates of accidents. But the statistics show that some of smallest airlines have the highest rates of accidents. Why? Cutting corners with maitenance, insufficient pilot training, flying old aircraft too long without a major overhaul, etc.... I suspect Turkish Airlines has suffered from all of these problems.
Turkish Airlines only seems to have a bad safety record because of this recent crash, which put a dent on its safety mark, if you look at Air France, that too is currently considered un safe, because of Flight 447. Singapour Airlines apperently has a 'Safety Record' bad as Turkish Airlines. But, they're considered very safe. Last fatal accident in 2000.
No doubtfully Turkish Airlines safety record will increase over the years, hopefully, there will be no accidents.
@galatasarayfan67 Until Turkish Airlines can prove itself to be safe and for this safety to be reflected in statistics I wont be flying with them. Its just too risky. I would rather stick to those airlines with proven track records.
@Progamble I still think they are very safe, but your opinion. I should also add, saying Turkish Airlines operates old planes is unjust. Turkish Airlines operates an average fleet of 6.8 years. British Airways 12 years... Delta 15 Air France 9 KLM 10 Lufthansa 13.3 Air Canada 10 Aerolines Argentina 14 Saying they cut on maintinence, pilot training is also unjust. They train and maintain their planes by standards, like KLM, Air France and these standards are very high. FAA or the CAA is no joke.
@galatasarayfan67 The Turkish Airlines disaster was due to a faulty radio altimeter which caused the plane's computer to automatically reduce engine throttle prematurely in anticipation of landing, & the flight crew failed to notice the drop in airspeed until it was too late. Why? Most likely poor maintenance, & very poor piloting of the airplane by the entire crew. Thats why I wont fly with Turkish Airlines. Sorry if that offends u, but I value my life ahead of your national pride.
I know the reason of the crash, it is not bad maintenance. They did not actually not fix the radio altimeter, they fixed it all the time, except it broke again. So, I don't say there's a problem with their maintenance.
It's more of the pilot's error, he should of been monitoring air speed, that is true.
But, when ever crashes like this happen on any airline, it is always discovered a pilot is doing something he shouldn't, so this is not only what Turkish Airline does.
@galatasarayfan67 If the radio altimeter was CONSTANTLY braking down, there was an obvious problem which was serious. Just replacing or fixing isnt good enough. E.g. If a Taxi driver's car speedometer keeps giving an incorrect reading even after it has been repaired then potentially there is a serious problem. But if the driver knew he could get away with a cheap option, u think he might do it? The same applies to airlines. Some airlines have a culture of cutting corners for the sake of profit.
I should also add, more than half of crashes are related to pilot error and about half are so are pilot error, so just calling an Airline unsafe because of this crash is quite ignorant.
@galatasarayfan67 I understand your argument & what u are trying to communicate, however, why is it that pilot error & mechanical failure always seem to plague airlines with the high rates of fatalities.? E.g. Russian Airlines, Air India, Air China, Turkish Airlines have a history of fatalities associated with mechanical failure & pilot error. I know its impossible to eliminate all problems but there is an obvious trend of failures in all of the airlines above. Why?
@ttccats It means the engine throttle needs to be at idle, retard means retarndando in music means slow down. Why would a plane cause a pilot a retard?
I think the plane went into landing mode becuase the autopilot was picking up incorrect alt readings from the faulty altimeter, the auto land system thought it was close to the ground, so it started the flair. just my guess, we shall see.
I don't get why the pilots almost always die even in survivable accidents. I mean here most survived. AND the plane hit tail first so the cockpit should if anything had a lesser impact than other parts of the plane. So why the crew in front died and not the other pple in the plane?
@forestskog its the equipment in the cockpit like the controls computers and stuff sometimes they become disloged and can fly around the cockpit hitting the crew.
@forestskog the crew died because of the landing gear under the cockpit. when the nose is smashed into the ground, the whole front landing gear column moved up and destroyed the cockpit.
well it was going too slow, right? it just dropped out of the air. the wings has not enough air going over them to provide lift anymore.
