  • We almost lost PT at this time. He was drinking a bottle of Brandy a day, using heroin aand coke.

  • Mrs. Towndsend...... ahhh there was NO indication taha he was cheatinging

  • Absolutely one of my very favourite Who songs, Pete wrote a real gem when he wrote this one!

  • Well I'll be damned, I always thought they said "Don't let go of the code". You learn something every day. Thanks, haven't heard this for thirty years.

  • It's such a grating lyric. You know the one.

  • This was a typicle example of the changes that so many 70 rock and roll bands hand to endure to fit in with the mainstream. I still love the who and I really like this song .

  • 2011 there ain't no bears in there

  • Great song about love addiction and codependency-Townsend revealing himself through the lyrics.

  • Worst song they've ever done except for Magic Bus.

  • @Tranchera - worst song they've ever done except for Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again

  • Don't let go of the coke.

  • Very good song. Great tenderness to this piece.

  • It's not classic Who, but who cares! This is a fantastic song!

  • Underrated song ...on an underrated album. This was a very good time for Townsend as far as songwriting goes, both with the Who and solo. It was not appreciated because it was not 'classic Who' stuff.

  • Clearly, The Who became a different band after Keith died. But it's still great music! This reminds me of the early days of MTV,back when it used to be a music channel---remember?

  • One of the great lyrics of the rock era "so I live my life tearing down the runway, sure to get the hang of hanging in there someday" Been there, still trying.

  • A curious song that one.

  • how was this song not a big hit???!!!!???

  • Keith Moon would be great with this . . . What a shame . . .What a waste . . .

  • I don't really like those headless bass guitars either,

but John made them look cool!

    Only The Ox could......Love him!

  • @KimberRules1,

Speaking as a man nicknamed for the guy, I agree.

  • great rare stuff

  • those headless guitars were big in the 80s.... they looked terrible...

  • @bjorkkody Agreed.

  • This is about the time The Who stopped with the balls out power chording drum thundering arena anthems and honest uncompromising ballads. Everything became a nice safe beach party. Dee dee dee dee dee dee cha-cha-cha.

  • *****

  • A great song and a great video from a time when MTV was actually watchable.....All good songs/videos from great bands...no nigger rap hip hop ghetto shit that should be out lawed...no low class reality shows....just a good channel that had classy vj's on it...too bad it didnt last long...

  • @bobbya16

You sound like a republican from Ohio. See what the party of NO has brought down upon us............YOU!

  • @deenet32 ...I really have no clue as to what you are talking about....I do not get involved in politics at all and Im from NJ....I did how ever vote in the last presidential election in a vain attempet to keep the white house white...so fuck off..

  • I only heard this song by accident, but once I did, it was hooked into my brain. AWESOME. How it was never a hit is beyond me. Catchy, clever, singable, danceable, hummable, upbeat, the kind of song that brings a crowd to life.

  • if i get the choice to pick 10 albums to be with me on a deserted island.Face Dances is one album id want to have. brilliant job.

  • @cloudchaser07 I agree completely. One of the most underappreciated albums ever IMHO. I guess that comes with the territory if 'Who's Next' is on your resume' as a band...

  • why on earth kenney was given a hard time by roger, kenneys a legend in his own right thee drumming on who albums wur sooperior,,specialy on hard album track its your time, turn etc

  • its a shame drummer kenny jones was given a hard time by roger,i believ he,s a great drummer in his own right he,s u there with the best, thee drumming on its your time from hard album fucking brilliant brilliant kenney we lav yah

  • Perfection!! Roger Daltrey at his stylish best!!

  • some of their best work albeit subdued!

  • Catchy as hell. Love this song.

  • Thanks for the memories. This is a great forgotten track from my youth. Kenney Jones on drums definitely gives The Who a more subdued and controlled sound.

  • sounds like the track is sped up a little. the album version has a groove to it.

  • @78thedayafter

yes, its sped up and high pitched for half tone.

  • OMG!! You know how much that Rickenbeckeer is WORTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love this tune. Daltrey delivers a terrific lead and Townsend wrote the kind of pop song he had abandoned in the Seventies. Great job.

  • I love townshend's use of chorus on the guitar for this song.

  • Great Tune needed to see more Entwhistle in this vid. he was so hauntingly quiet and cool.

  • @falconsblack41

Cool? Yes...he may have had formaldehyde in his veins at this point.

  • @falconsblack41 he's always hiding of camera when i see videos of the who

  • ahh the heck with it.....will you just let go of the coat!!

  • iits quirky but Starkey fits

  • Thank God for Kenney... fitted so well

They have never been eve close as good with Starkey as they were during Kenney years

  • @fasima

very funny . I know your joking.

  • Nope...

  • no disrepect to Jones but he just didn't fit with The Who sound.

Now Zakk Starkey, he fits great. Too bad they didn't find someone like him back in the day after Moon's death.

  • Text of the prayer: Beloved God, help us all to love you more and more, and more and more, and still yet more, until we become worthy of union with you; and help us all to hold fast to Baba's daaman until the very end.

  • Beloved God is the common name of a prayer created by Meher Baba on August 25, 1959. The prayer refers to Meher Baba's damaan, which means "hem" in Urdu, as in the hem of a garment. Baba often gave the figure of a mother telling a child to hold her garment's hem while they walked through the market place, and said that his disciples should always hold fast to his damaan in the same way.

  • never let the coat guys!!!!!! always firmly hold on to what u believe in!!!!!! this song along with another tricky day such motivating and inspiring rock songs!!!!!!

  • This song's title and general theme ws supposedly derived from a speech/interview/lesson with their spiritual mentor, Meher Baba. Does anyone have the exact quote, or where or when it was originally spoken?

  • wow, pete is playing a good ol' rickenbacker here, the guitar that made the beatles popular in american and started the british invasion, such a legendary guitar!!!!!! has a great sound too, especially in this song!!!!!!

  • such a great tune, makes me happy every time i listen to it, probably even more than baba o' riley!!!!!!

  • great tune with a great rhythm, the face dances album was so good!!!!!!

  • @rajbeast yeah the vocal melody, and the way he breaks up the syllables just flows so smoothly

    Especially :43-56

    wonderful!

  • The Who, Them Beeatles.....The Sex pistols.... ,,,wannnaaaabeeeeees will follow you forever.. dont let ever let go

  • Thank you Vidmagican. This is my Fav Who tune and I'm a diehard early Who fan. Just a great tune!!

  • I always remember these lyrics:

"I need your body, but I can't just demand it"

  • ive tried to explain, but you never understand it...

  • good memories from a great era. really makes me miss John Entwistle.

  • john entwistle is sadly missed by us all!!!!!!

  • Great video from the early days of MTV. The Who rock.

  • I let go the coat (the beautiful MVP). Lyrics: "I can't be held responsible for blown behavior, I lost all contact with my only Savior. No one locked me out because I failed to phone up, I can't bear to live forever like a Loner." "It's easy to be sad when you lack a Partner, But how would I react to a broken heart now? It ain't really true Rock 'n' Roll unless I'm Hanging onto You and when I hold it next time." -- Without her I have not yet got "the hang of hanging in there someday."
  • @lightsearcher1 What the heck is this song about?

  • @siti1ca I've heard that the title of this song comes from Pete Townshend's guru, who told his followers to hold tight to the hem of his coat. Townshend probably also knew about the Biblical story of a woman who believed she could be healed if she could just touch the hem of Jesus' garmet. The song is also about Pete remaining in the music business, continuing to write, tour and perform. The line about "tearing down the runway" probably refers to being constantly on a jet plane.

  • One of my favorites

  • The most rediculous song of all time...but i love it

  • great song

  • A very catchy song that is always good to hear and watch the way Pete plays his guitar. A great guitar sound as always.

  • Among the Who's best works, this song would have been nearly unknown if it weren't for the exposure it received in the early days of MTV. Thanks for posting.

  • This album rules, this song rules, and The Who rule, period, end of story.

  • ditto nate

  • face dances is an underrated album.

  • agree

  • the it s hard album is in retrospect not not bad either.

  • downloaded both of them...both solid.

  • My favorite from among all the Who have done, and with all they've done so far, hopefully that's saying something. I just hope the stumblebums who had a previous video of this song deleted don't catch on to THIS one any time soon!

  • what an awesome tune this is

  • Makes me happy
