  • you know i was inclined to go ahead and skip this video, but you're pretty cool so I watched it! Good video, don't listen to those dumbasses who are hating. Liked the vid.

  • looks like that was alot of fun to do the video on, Peace...

  • Jack Bruise used them in the studio.

  • I can understand why you'd want to record with that monster... and also not be caught dead with it on stage.

  • I hate the look, but it sounds really cool and growls like a wolf! I wonder what it'd sound like with a solid Fuzz pedal.

  • Lol...\m/

  • @locobru11

    hey

thanks for taking time to comment :)

If you hear banging, you'd better go check on your mom ;)

  • what a piece of shit, only queers use them to stick up there ass

  • what a dick

  • MY GENERATION WAS RECORDED IN A JAZZ BASS, TE HISTORY IS CORRECT ONLY THAT THE LAST BASS THAT WAS USED IN THE DAY OF THE RECORDING DID BROKE A STRING BEFORE THEY START TO RECORD, SO OX HAD TO USE THE JAZZ BASS THAT WAS IN THE STUDIO (PROPERTY OF THE STUDIO)

  • @juanamador2 Capslock...

  • Body shape and tuners are ugly as sin but it sounds nice, which is all that really matters. You should do more reviews/playing. There's enough people on youtube pretending they can play, it'd be refreshing having some vids up of someone who actually can.

  • Hey Dave

Your bass looks very special but i like that, but is it possible to slap on it?

  • @simii57

    not great for slapping

  • A Dano Longhorn with flatwounds, a thick pick and the tone dialed down will give you the Carol Kaye Beach Boys sound like nothing else I've found. I know those were common in LA studios at the time.

  • You are a really great bass player love ur style :)

  • @skaterocker666

I.ve played for over 40 years

    somethin had to happen :)

    thanks

  • Entwistle ended up using a Fender Jazz bass with Rotosound tapewounds on the final recording. So the bass you hear on "My Generation" is a Jazz.

  • Great video, don't know how I missed this one. Great to hear you play, haven't seen that much lately. Hows your carpal tunnel doing?

  • Class video. I was pleased to see you cover many of the well-known uses the Longhorn served throughout music history.

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan played one for his brothers band there is a video on youtube of him playing it with him. also great video and do you know any really good quality brand of electric guitars. More or less what would you recommend? Thanks

  • @shamzi13

depends on the style you wanna play

    best bet

    a Telecaster

  • @davey4557 Thanks so much man. I play mostly jazz and blues. The biggest problem I have I love tele and strat. I just wish I could get the sound just a little bit thicker. I don't really think I want humbuckers. So any help with that is really appreciated. Thanks ps what do you think of G&L guitars I know you G&L jazz bass sounds really good

thanks again keep up with cool videos

  • cream played it live every now and then

  • i went to i little gig in a cafe and the bassist had his bass at home so he borrowed someone else's and it was one that looked esaclilly like this but i can't remember, long story short it sounded AWESOME!!

  • omg, you enjoy playing the bass don't you? :D Love watching you play!

  • @jugharp -----I saw the Youngloods in Philly at Electric Factory-----The Main Point-----The Second Fret-------the Trauma --etc----etc---- and yea------he always played A longhorn-------and ---He was one fantastic bass player.

  • ugliest bass in history but it sounds good

  • Too much talkin, man but, anyway, the sound of your bass is terrific!

  • My generation was recorded with both really

  • You are funny :D

  • @jugharp

    very cool

    Thanks for the comment

  • "My Generation" was recorded with a Fender Jazz Bass.

  • what kind of bass strings do you use/recommend

  • @sunburd200

    rotosound swingbass

  • Just PLAY the thing. Nobody care about your opinions dummy!

  • Tom Petty used a Longhorn while he was in 'The Travelling Willburys'

  • Great playing bro. Did that adjustable bridge come on that one,or did you change it to that?. Mine is the old Korean reiissue with the piece of rosewood. I was told that if I buy that bridge. I have to do some sort of mod to the guitar to retro fit that bridge. I am seeking info. Your playing and demeanor rock, play on.

  • @synthezer

    i added the bridge

    no mod required

  • nice bass, john entwistle used one in the early days of the who

  • Sorry for the rapid comments. I was just wondering if this bass is possible to play slap on.

  • @ox092

    i dont think so

    short scale

  • @davey4557 that slap would sound like crap. So to speak.

  • @davey4557 why are you giving out bad advice!? theres a video on you tube of someone playing some great slap bass on one of these. Its titled "Acoustic 370 bass amp / 408 cabinet -part 2 " and what would scale size have to do with slap?

  • @davey4557 That short scale of 29-3/4 is even shorter than my Gibson at 30-1/2, (which is great for my stubby frog-webbed fingers). Have you heard of any shorter than that?

  • @davey4557 The 29-3/4 is shorter than the Gibson 30-1/2 scale. Is there anything else that short (or shorter)? What would be the best strings for something that short to get a good full sound from the E-string?

  • @ox092 I played slap on one and it did a really good job(i really like the stock strings). Anyone who says it wont work is probably not a slap bass kind of player. What does short scale have to do with slap bass? ive seen slap bass on all kinds of scale length.

  • @ox092 check out the video "Acoustic 370 bass amp / 408 cabinet -part 2"

  • Hey i have a question ive been looking at a danelectro bass. They seem like great basses. My friend and i have started doing recordings and i was looking to upgrade to a dano but i would to in the future use them for venues larger than recording in an enclosed area. I was thinking of installing another pickup preferably a jazz pickup. But also we were gonna install a killswitch. What kind of pickup would you recommend for the bass to get an even better tone, and be good choice in price range.

  • @ThatBassistonRadio

    i would leave it alone

they sound great as is !!!

  • @davey4557 and is that color a lake placid blue. i looked anymore for the longhorn reissues they only make it in the cooper burst which is alright but that color you have on that is so much better.

  • @ThatBassistonRadio

I think they call it sky blue

  • jack bruce also used one. i think for a lot of the Disraeli Gears album and some of Wheels of Fire. but the most notable one would be White Room. :)

  • Hi - I just got a danelectro longhorn and your video has great information about this instrument and your positive attitude I thought at first was a little much but I really enjoyed after a couple of minutes. Thanks.

  • great stuff, I really enjoyed your review. thanks for the stories :)

  • @andee161

    Hey !!

Thanks for the comment and for watching

  • jack bruce from cream played one.

  • If you really want to hear how awesome this guitar sounds live look up "Big Boss Man" by the Kentucky Headhunters you will want one!

  • my dad has your coat :D

  • @Psychedozzzer

    Did he steal it?

    wtf?

  • @davey4557 costco...

  • Bintang's bass player uses a Longhorn since the beginning of the band.

  • acutally i think that is a 1998 reissue longhorn.

  • @ox092 ya could be

i may have said 80's and meant 90's

    my brain is going

  • don't know is someone cited him, but Gary W Tallent, from The E-Street Band, used it a lot in the first albums of Bruce Springsteen.

in "Born To Run" he's still using it. can't rimember right now if even in Darkness On The Edge Of Town he used the Dano.

  • @Pierfra007

    Cool Info !!

    Thanks for the comment

  • @davey4557 I was reading right now, since 1999 reunion tour, Tallent carries his Longhorns (four basses) in tour. he uses Spector basses the most (he endorses them), but uses even his old Danos.

  • Steve priest from the sweet played danelctro basses all the time.

  • @rileykiss

    Yes

    the Sweet

I saw them in the 70's

    LOL

    they rocked

  • I really want this bass, whats the full name of it? and whats the colour called? PLEASE REPLY!!!

  • @LunnBass

that is a 1980's reissue of a Danelectro Longhorn

the bridge has been replaced with an updated version

    the colour is sky blue

    cheers !!!

  • ''the bintangs'' a dutch band the bassist always did a 5min. solo with a longhorn!!

  • i read John Entwistle was planning to record the solo on this bass.... but his bass broke (maybe the string) and he ended up using his fender jazz in the end.

  • @mrbassman25

i read they used 3 danelectro bass because he broke strings.

    they had no strings

just more bass guitars at the shop

    ???

  • This bass would sound fantastic with flats, or taperwound strings.

  • @PsychoSymantic

    I might try that out

    Thanks

  • jack bruce from cream used this bass

  • @SiKxBlAzEr

I never knew that. I always saw pics of him with a Gibson

    cool !!!

  • @davey4557 yea ive seen pics of him using it you kind kind of hear it on outside woman blues that definate almost rubbery sound

  • They might be giants used a Danelectro longhorn guitar which can be seen in the music video for both "Dr.Worm and Dont lets start"

  • @redhook4

    Cool

    I'll check it out

  • @davey4557

Hey are all electrode's not road worthy?

  • @8Dgman

They dont' like winter in Canada. That is for sure !!!!

  • i cant find the blue version anywhere!

  • @LunnBass

this is an 80's reissue with updated bridge done by me

  • Cood vids man. Keep it up!

Saw the q about longhorn going metal. I am wondering about punk. How capable is this machine with punk playing?

Would love to see a demo on that.

    Cheers!

  • I had one of these when I was famous! I used to use it on TV cos it was so light carrying around and wating for re-takes. Only real let down was the pick ups so I used a precision on stage

  • @JTSmusic

It can be a lot of fun to play !!!

    thanks for looking

  • GOLDEN EARRING!

  • @janenco93

    Ya baby !!!!

  • @davey4557 you have got some nice basses, what else have you got in your collection?

Also, would this bass be any good for playing Death/Thrash metal

    cheers,

    Charlie

  • @bassplayrCL

Take a look at the channel. I'll do more demos

You can get some pretty kikass tones with a Danelectro and a loud amp !!

    Cheers !!!

  • is that a 72 p bass on the wall? niccccceeee

  • @darkmaster99

Actually its a 72 Telecaster Bass, beside it is my 75 Jazz..

  • @FunkyBarSteward

    Thanks man

    Cheers !!!

  • @Capitallog

    thanks man!!!

    Cheers!!!

  • Jack Bruce from "Cream" used one of these bad boys!

You can see vids of him playing it live on Youtube.

I plan on picking one of these up eventually I think they look so cool and have great history!

    Awesome video man!

  • ...thought I do something fun... HAHA!!!

Best intro I've seen in a demonstration video! Anyway, this bass kicks some serious amount of ass! Because of the lack of a bassy punch like in P-basses, it's ideal for rock soloing!

  • @CubeableGame

    Thanks man

    Cheers !!!

  • Comment removed

  • @davey4557

    I'm old and confused

    Harmony was out of Illinios

Danelectro was out of New Jersey

Still USA made in the old days

  • i like the sound, my honghorn is black but i don't like the bleu one

  • LOVE it man!.. jus LOVE it!..Danelectro RULZ! =0D

  • @tornmask

    Thanks Man

    Cheers !!!

  • I forgot to mention, that The Trashmen, who recorded Surfin' Bird, used the longhorn bass!

  • oh by the way Jerry Jones makes very good danelectro style guitars, bloody expensive though! Nice colours, nice sound and very well made, there again, I would hope so for the price tag they command. nobody sells jerry jones guitars in the uk as far as I am aware, but would love one, man you cant beat the good ole USA for guitars, awesome.

  • @darkoak40

    Cheers !!!

    and thanks for watchin' !!!!

  • nice danelectro longhorn man, I got one myself, a dead on 58 model, they are probably sturdier than you think, however, the reason there are not many original ones left is due to the fact they are made of out lightweight materials such as plywood frame with masonite, like cardboard really LOL! They certainly have a tone all their own. Check out on youtube BINTANGS DANELECTRO SOLO, thats pretty cool.

  • Cool

  • @Propane45

    Thanks Man!!!
