  • Agreed, Leela was the best assistant ever.

  • There is hardly ever a problem that Leela couldn't solve by sticking a knife in it. I miss her greatly.

  • Like this if you found yourself yelling after Leela when she ran off

  • this was really a great episode

  • what is this episode anyway?

  • Bravo!! Go Leela! she was a great companion and on the whole, FIERCE!

  • I love seeing a companion who's courageous, not whiny and scared. Leela could be frightened from time to time, but she'd face up to it and try to best her attacker - and protect the Doctor.

  • @Archivist82 Amy Pond reminds me of her and martha? idk why.

  • @Archivist82 She didn't scream once, to my recollection.

  • has anyone got the censored original leela fight scenes from talons of weng chiang, where she fights weng chiang and a chinese slave?

  • I loved Leela!

  • Leela used to give me such a boner

  • The best story of the Baker era, without a doubt!

  • Actually there are many WHO serials that are true "masterpieces" from Tom Baker's finest era, Seasons 12,13 & 14. Serials such as Ark in Space, Genesis of the Daleks, Pyramids of Mars, Brain of Morbius, and Seeds of Doom, to name a few in addition to "Talons of Weng Chiang" that this video clip is from.

  • you forgot the Deadly Assasins

  • Actually I didn't.

I don't rate Deadly Assassin as high as many WHO fans. It is an important story for WHO, agreed. But not a "masterpiece" to my personal way of rating.

A WHO "masterpiece" must be so entertaining and well produced that the story can stand on its own, allowing it to entertain even those unfamiliar with DrWho. Such a story can create new DrWho fans.

Deadly Assassin requires some knowledge of DrWho in order to be an effective story, and that drops it below "masterpiece".

  • ginelson, your argument COMPLETLY falls apart when you consider that The Deadly Assasin was notorious for RETCONNING a lot of established Doctor Who mythology that Robert Holmes HIMSELF had provided for earlier Doctors regarding his people. You don't require "continuity" to consider it a masterpeice at all.

  • Heyarnoldsknee, you are from the UK, where DW has been an institution for 46 years. I'm from the U.S. where sadly, DW is relatively unknown.

Trust me, if I start a new American viewer with "Deadly Assassin" he will view it as "bizarre crap" and NEVER watch DW again. If I start him with a masterpiece stand-alone DW such as 'Time Warrior" or "Pyramids of Mars", he will love DW, and soon develop the knowledge background to appreciate "Deadly Assassin" as much as any knowledgeable DW fan.

  • oh ok I get it, but genesis of the daleks can't count as well as it also requires some fan knowledge e.g. the past dalek weaknesses and defeats the doctor states to davros as he refers to their invasion of earth.

  • That is a good point, Timelord6661! And you are accurate in pointing out that under my personal criteria for WHO "masterpiece", "Genesis of the Daleks" is the marginal selection on the list.

Daleks, after all are unique to DrWho!

However, because "Genesis..." establishes the origin and reason for the existence of the Daleks, plus introduces their creator, Davros, I feel that the story is not beyond the understanding of a viewer unfamiliar with DrWho.

  • That Mr Sin really gives me the creeps!

  • god leela takes alot of risks, she took a very dangerous risk just to save herself and went with the killers. A scary plot and a great companion, i think all of them are great6

  • Leela was the greatest Doctor Who sidekick ever! The Doctor meets Wonder Woman!

  • Agreed! Leela attacks a villain (in this case, chucking a knife into Mr. Sin's neck), AND jumps through a window? They should've called this clip "Leela IN ACTION!"

  • they've also spealt Tom's surname wrong. How dare they?! Baker rules!

  • This was Doctor Who at its finest. Louise Jameson doesn't get to really shine here, but we do get to see exceptional scriptwriting and a demonstration of why BBC dramas are held in exceptionally high repute worldwide. I am glad the BBC has placed these clips on Youtube. There is so much material they will never sell or reuse, they might as well place as much as possible on here.

  • why not sho the rat attacking her

  • This is easily one of the scariest Doctor Who stories ever. Made during a very cool period for the show, Tom Baker totally in his stride. Nice to see him and his companion dressed for the period, tightly written and directed too, six parts to it and not a dull moment :)
