It's a great way to start. After you download 2.5, check out, on my Youtube channel, my 2.5 videos, which range from the basics to advanced topics such as ambient occlusion. Neal's videos are great. Wonderful post so I'll check it out. If I'm able to learn the basics again I might even try out the new 2.5 version of Blender. 5 stars.
