I came up with a total of 7 unique names that I could use in RPGs during the days of Diablo 1. I won't post them so they won't get stolen in future games. Then if I made extra characters I would name them in honor of my Diablo 2 Classic hero, Psycho. Before the days of LoD he was a legendary HC player. He had an epic Firewall Sorc that could solo Hell Chaos. When "Psycho" died he made "Psychos Rage" then when that Sorc got PKed he made "Psychos Revenge" so I followed suit.

In Diablo 2, I called my first barbarian "Conan" of course (open Bnet), but I think a lot of people did (and later I had to laugh everytime when I met a Conan)^^. I used to play Diablo 2 Hardcore on USEast. Had a couple pretty bad names that were PK's. Hammerific (tried to give a hint that i may be a hammer pally, lolz) and another PK I had was X_Con (dunno lol). But those two toons killed so many people. When I played Diablo 2, I named my first online character EmeraldDeathGuy because he was a necromancer and I'd have him use emeralds in a dagger. I started naming all the rest of my characters like that: TopazDeathGuy, RubyDeathGal, etc.

My favorite Diablo 2 character name is my current paladin DarksteelKnight. It's a reference to Mirrodin from Magic: The Gathering.

I named my WoW hunter Oatmeal, and a GM forced me to change it. I got it changed back, and she is still Oatmeal to this day.

@numbah82 I think having a respectable game name can be nice, though in cases of PvP servers on say WoW, few people care. But on say, role play servers, people (including myself) take character naming seriously. I like to take pride in coming up with really cool character names. Like a badge of honor above your head constantly.

@Silinrun +1 To that. I take pride in my character names too. I've only used approximately 5 different character names in all my years of gaming. I can vouch for some players take naming seriously, I can easily relate. I've dabbled onto KissMyArrow, derived from KissMyAxe, or Phantoms Cry.

Phantoms Cry, however, is my pride and joy for some reason. It can represent the overwhelming emotional Phantom, to the battle cry of a Phantom. I guess it's a step up from my fail game names. :)

@SOSphantom When I mean taking pride and taking seriously I mean for role play characters :P Your kind of names wouldn't really be acceptable on a RP server XD I'd get a bit of a laugh out of them, Phantoms Cry would be passable though. Most of my names come from translating various words from English to Drow (Dark Elves from Dungeons and Dragons) or taking a word/name and reversing it, adding or subtracting letters as needed to make it sound good in my head.

hmm game names...i actually have never put that much thought on this. maybe ill start brainstorming for D3, usually, however, my names are usually within the context of Greek mythology or history. and i play both female and male characters depending on the name that is available, the last name available was Achillian but that ended up being pronounced so differently from person to person, the one prior was Meduzzah, pple seem to like that one, unfortunately i was forced to refrain from roleplay.

I used to have a username: KissMyAxe. The axe section was a replacement of ass, as axe pertained to my character type. I was proud of my name too, until I shared it with some girls at school. It made me realize how childishly gamer related it was.

I use the name SOSphantom on various things, such as my email, or my YouTube username. It was sadly a spin-off of the S.O.S. brigade from The Melancholy of Haruyi Suzumiya. It was the result of Phantom being a very common name I couldn't work around.
